Self Defense Concepts Class

Part of a new series led by congregant Maggie Capehart, a martial arts practitioner who promotes a comprehensive approach to personal protection, this free self-defense class focuses on non-fighting strategies for staying safe. Topics include building situational awareness, recognizing risky behavior, calming tense encounters, checking your own condition after a confrontation, providing basic care for minor injuries, considering how personal morals and ethics shape training choices, reducing the chance of appearing like an easy target, learning local self-defense laws, and communicating with law enforcement after an incident. The session is designed to be practical and immediately useful, and participants are encouraged to bring knowledge of local crime patterns, police activity, protest safety and planning, and relevant laws to inform the discussion.
