The Power of Belonging: Why Connection Matters

Attend a presentation that explores how human beings are wired for connection. When we feel genuinely seen and heard, our nervous systems settle, our resilience grows, and we remember that we do not have to face life alone. Reflect on your own experiences of belonging and consider how much of our modern distress may be rooted not in personal failure, but in disconnection. Drawing on the work of Healing Circles Langley, the presentation introduces a community-based model of peer listening and quiet witnessing, creating space for people to be met as they are.

A longtime favorite on Whidbey Island, the group is known for high-energy performances that connect closely with the audience. The early set, Best of the Blues, dives into electric blues and blues-rock with fiery slide work, soulful lines, and gritty tones, featuring songs associated with artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Johnny Winter, Hound Dog Taylor, and more. The later set, Deadheads Delight, shifts to the psychedelic, improvisational spirit of late 60s and 70s jam band rock, drawing on music from the Grateful Dead, Cream, The Band, Jimi Hendrix, and others, with room for extended jams and musical exploration. The trio features Mardon on guitar and vocals, Nate Sharp on bass and vocals, and drummer Andy Emery, nicknamed Doctor. Whidbey Ren Faire 2026

Whidbey Ren Faire returns for its third year at Beach View Farm, bringing family-friendly fun, spellbinding entertainment, and a bit of island magic. The venue is easy to reach by road over Deception Pass without a water crossing, or by ferry routes from Port Townsend to Coupeville and from Mukilteo to Clinton, followed by a drive to the grounds. Advance tickets are available, and gate prices, if offered, will be higher than buying ahead. Planning in advance is encouraged. Daily entry may close shortly before the event wraps up each day. Parking has been expanded on site with general and ADA spaces, though this area fills quickly. When it is full, drivers will be directed to overflow lots with free, ADA-accessible shuttles, including Hillcrest Elementary School and Oak Harbor High School, with the possibility of another site pending approval. For the smoothest drop-off, unload passengers in the designated turnaround, then park in an overflow lot and ride the shuttle back. Please follow all local parking laws, be considerate of nearby residents, avoid stopping along road shoulders near the venue, and note that illegally parked vehicles will be towed. Limited independent camping and additional parking are offered nearby at Whidbey Highland Farm within walking distance of the fairegrounds. Travelers seeking a deeper connection can explore the Whidbey Ren Faire Fellowship for early updates, special quests, and behind-the-scenes opportunities as the festivities draw near. Health and safety guidelines apply. Only service animals are permitted during event hours. All weapons must be peace-tied, and firearms are not allowed. If conditions are wet, dress in layers and wear closed-toe shoes. The site is a hay field without established walking paths, with some sloped areas. Three-wheeled mobility scooters are not recommended, and anyone with mobility concerns may wish to bring a companion to help navigate grassy terrain. Organizers may implement requirements set by applicable authorities, and attendance indicates agreement to comply with any such changes without refund or liability. Ravel, Mozart, Garrop

Spring on Whidbey Island brings a colorful program from Saratoga Orchestra that spotlights music by Maurice Ravel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and contemporary composer Stacy Garrop. The lineup blends enduring classics with a modern voice, creating a concert that celebrates the season and the breadth of orchestral storytelling. Featured works include Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 “Jupiter”, and Stacy Garrop’s “Penelope Waits” from her Mythology Symphony. Ravel’s concerto shimmers with impressionist hues and jazz inflections inspired by the composer’s encounters with American jazz, full of lively rhythms, blues-tinged harmonies, and vivid orchestral color. Pianist Julian Garvue appears as soloist in the Ravel, bringing a background that spans classical and pop. He joined Los Angeles Opera’s Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program in 2024, previously spent three years as a jazz pianist in New York City, recorded with The Arsonists, and premiered his own Concertino for Piano and Orchestra in 2018.

Friends and Neighbors: A Musical Address in Old Vienna

At St. Augustine's in the Woods Episcopal Church, this concert traces a musical path to 18th-century Vienna through the story of one remarkable residence, the Grosses Michaelerhaus. Under a single roof, neighbors shaped one another's art, and the program reflects that exchange with music linked to Nicola Porpora, the renowned Italian teacher, a young Joseph Haydn who worked and played for Porpora in return for instruction, Marianna Martines, a gifted composer and keyboard player who lived in the building and studied with both, and W. A. Mozart, a frequent guest and friend. The performance honors how proximity, mentorship, and friendship can spark cultural change, placing the often overlooked Martines alongside her celebrated contemporaries to reveal the breadth of the Viennese spirit. Inspired by a house once filled with salons and corridors of sound, this gathering offers chamber music that blends elegance with storytelling and a sense of connection, echoing the creative community found on Whidbey Island.
