Parkade PlazaThe Table is Set | Liv Hebert Watkins | May 1st - May 30th
Liv Hebert Watkins presents a cohesive exhibition centered on the dinner table as a place where people come together. Through portraits, symbols, household items, and foods, the work honors ordinary lives and the rituals that shape them. Halos drawn from iconography appear with familiar faces and objects, giving everyday people and actions a sense of importance. These ideas took shape while the artist studied in Costa Rica in spring 2023 and lived with a family unrelated by blood, prompting a look at what home can mean across geography, language, culture, and family ties. The table appears as a comforting setting for sharing a warm drink, eating, telling the day’s stories, and laughing. Iconic imagery and simple symbols meet the tangible pieces of a place setting, like a steaming cup of coffee and a stack of plates that catches a person’s reflection. The work points to how tears and joys are shared across the world and to why gathering to eat and drink connects people.
