A community plawking walk departs from Belmont Branch Library. Bags, gloves, and grabbers are provided with support from Clean Valley Council and Roanoke Valley Resource Authority. BUZZ Watch Party stars On Our Own of the Roanoke Valley

A free watch party at The Grandin Theatre spotlights a new episode of BUZZ featuring On Our Own of the Roanoke Valley. On Our Own of Roanoke Valley operates a year-round drop-in center that offers help and hope to people dealing with addiction and mental health challenges. Led by Robin Hubert, who has overcome mental health trauma and abuse, the organization supports members facing bipolar disorder, PTSD connected to military service, substance abuse, sexual assault, and other difficult life circumstances. Wheeler Digital comes back to the show to provide a marketing lift so more people know about the nonprofit and can support it financially. The episode is underwritten by the James A. Meador Foundation and airs on Blue Ridge PBS.

Architectural historians Anne Beckett and Alison Blanton return to the Kegley Lecture Series to examine how a period of rapid growth that preceded a downturn shaped Roanoke’s mid 20th century architecture. Their presentation covers the era’s economic context and its impact on design, then takes a visual look at surviving Mid-Century Modern buildings and signage with before and after images from Williamson Road through downtown Roanoke and into Salem. The program spotlights figures such as Kinsey, Motley, and Shane Architects & Engineers, and highlights a recently honored restoration of their hallmark work, the Colony House Motor Lodge on Franklin Road. Short Track Preview On the Rocks II

A high-energy short track mountain bike race returns to Elmwood Park in Downtown Roanoke as a timed, for-fun preview of the Endurance Mountain Bike XCC Championship course. Riders will navigate a compact loop with mixed surfaces, small climbs, tight turns, and technical rock features, tackling multiple laps in a fast, spectator-friendly format. With limited recovery between efforts, speed, handling, and smart tactics are at a premium. Beyond the racing, DJ Flex will be on site, beverages will be available for purchase, and Birriera La Vaca will be serving food. This is not an official or sanctioned event and is intended primarily as a course preview. All are welcome, with extra kudos for those who pre-register, and on-site registration will also be available.

World Ballet Company: Swan Lake

World Ballet Company brings Swan Lake to the Jefferson Center in a full-length staging that weaves fate and magic into a classic struggle between light and darkness. A cast of 50 international dancers performs to Tchaikovsky’s celebrated score, appearing in more than 150 hand-sewn costumes and dancing amid hand-crafted scenery. Signature moments include the cygnets’ precise ensemble work and the Black Swan’s dazzling series of 32 fouettés, alongside sweeping lyricism and high drama throughout. The performance runs approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission. For ages 5 and over. World Ballet Company is based in Los Angeles under the direction of Sasha Gorskaya and Gulya Hartwick. The ensemble features professional artists representing over ten countries and tours beloved classics in cities nationwide, having visited more than 300 cities and performed for audiences totaling over 500,000.

Beginner West Coast Swing Dance - 6 Wk series (April 15-May 20)

Build your West Coast Swing foundation in a six-week series at Carilion Wellness. Each session focuses on essential concepts, common patterns, and practical warm-ups and drills, making it a useful pathway for newcomers as well as returning dancers. West Coast Swing is a partner dance done in a slot and suits many musical styles, from blues and swing to rock, hip hop, ballads, country, and pop. No partner or prior experience is required, and partners will rotate during class. Comfortable clothing is recommended, along with clean-soled, non-grippy shoes, and flip flops are discouraged. The cost is $15 per person for a single class or $75 for the full series when paid by the end of the first session, with the first class free for new students. Those repeating the beginner level pay $10 per repeat class. The beginner curriculum pairs well with the Intermediate Next Steps class for added practice and learning. A facility membership is not required, though a waiver must be completed for the series. Classes run with a minimum of four students; if fewer attend, a 20-minute private or semi-private lesson is offered, and there is an option to apply the drop-in or series fee toward a full private hour shared by those present. A welcoming environment and community standards are emphasized, and participants are asked to stay home if feeling unwell. Private lessons for individuals and small groups are available. All-levels socials are typically offered on first Sundays, alternating between Roanoke and Blacksburg.

3rd Annual Community Day!

Community Day returns with a renewed commitment to support Feeding Southwest Virginia. The Chamber community leads a month-long food drive and a hands-on volunteer day, aiming to surpass the previous total of 1,750 pounds of donations. Community members can contribute by donating and by volunteering to sort and pack food for those in need. Businesses may also participate by hosting a collection box. After the volunteer day, a Business After Hours and Volunteer Appreciation gathering hosted at Ridge View Bank offers a chance to connect and celebrate the collective effort. Registration for both activities is free. This year’s Community Day t-shirts are sponsored by Northpoint Insurance Advisors.

REVIVE! Training

Develop lifesaving skills through a free, hands-on, community focused REVIVE! Training at the Gainsboro Branch of the Roanoke City Public Library. The session covers how to spot the warning signs of an opioid overdose, when and how to administer naloxone (Narcan), and what to do immediately afterward. No medical background is required, only a willingness to learn and help others. Participants receive REVIVE! certification upon completion and may receive a free naloxone kit. A program featuring Meridiane, Timber Rattle, and Spirit Trap brings together exploratory electronics, layered folk textures, and experimental sound. Meridiane is an international collective now rooted in the Appalachian valleys of southwestern Virginia, first taking shape when songwriter Joshua Strachan of Vaura and Desolation Colony and cellist Kaily Schenker of Solar Hex and Universal Light performed together during a winter night at an Oddfellows Lodge in Blacksburg in January 2020. Strachan later invited 4AD veterans Pieter Nooten of This Mortal Coil and Clan of Xymox and Warren Defever of His Name Is Alive to help finish the debut album To Walk Behind The Sun. Working at a distance, they blended chilly electronics, hypnotic rhythms, atmospheric cello, and ethereal guitar, echoing the members’ earlier projects and peers such as GAS and Tor Lundvall. In late 2025, a Southwest Virginia lineup came together for the project’s first live performance. Timber Rattle, the long running project of Adam Parks, is a traveling and ever-shifting exploration of primordial sound and its ties to landscape, bodies, life and death, magic, language, ritual, myth, space, cycles, animals and plants, as well as food and poison. Parks shapes hypnotic doom folk with layered synth drones, acoustic guitar, and pastoral vocals, and has roots in Ithaca, Seattle, the Czech Republic, and Southwest Virginia. He tours frequently across the United States and Europe as Timber Rattle and with Water Is The Sun, his collaboration with Drekka. Spirit Trap focuses on high concept occult electronics. After studies in Berlin in sound and history, Sean Regan returned to the mountains around Blacksburg and has been bringing a distinctive mix of synthetic and acoustic elements to DIY spaces in Roanoke and Blacksburg.

Group Ride to International Female Ride Day in Roanoke VA

Plans are forming for a relaxed group ride and overnight trip to International Female Ride Day at Roanoke Valley Harley-Davidson. The ride is expected to take about four hours with fuel stops and breaks, and the pace will be easygoing. The idea is to head out the day before, arrive with time to see a few things in the area and have dinner, then visit the event the following day. After that, participants can either stay an extra night to explore nearby activities or ride home in the afternoon with a goal of getting back before dark. All bikes are welcome in the spirit of Female Ride Day. Jess Brown from Bikes & Balayage is expected to be there. Plans are tentative and weather dependent, and torrential rain would cancel the ride.

Roanoke Valley Women's Circle | Spring Series | May 2026

At Maplewood Studios, the Roanoke Valley Women’s Circle offers a nourishing gathering centered on meaningful connection, simple ceremony, and sisterhood. Each circle features grounding practices, open sharing, gentle ritual, and creative expression, with a chance for a few mindful moments outdoors when weather allows. The intention is to create supportive space for reflection and celebration within a welcoming community of women. A Spring Series Pass is available for $77 and covers three months, with only eight passes offered. Single event admission is $33 per person. Capacity is limited to 14 guest spots in addition to the leadership team. Free street parking is available. The gathering is held indoors, with optional outdoor time as conditions permit. Access is via a first floor entry from the backyard or sidewalk side. There is no official ADA ramp, and the back entry is flat and typically the easiest. Light refreshments are provided, including fruit, vegetables, cheese, crackers, tea, and water. Potluck contributions are welcome but not required. Comfortable layers that fit a casual sacred vibe are encouraged, and revealing clothing is discouraged. Participants may wish to bring a journal and pen, with extras available, as well as a small altar item to honor a guide, intention, or divine presence. Volunteers to assist with setup and cleanup are welcome.

Fundraiser: The Blood Connection (Roanoke)

Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council is partnering with The Blood Connection for a community blood drive at Girl Scout Camp Icimani in Roanoke. Each donation supports the council with a ten dollar contribution, and donors receive reward points valued at thirty dollars that can be redeemed for gift cards through The Blood Connection Rewards. The process is designed to be quick, generally taking under an hour. It begins with a brief questionnaire, followed by a mini physical that checks blood pressure, pulse, iron level, and temperature. Childbirth Education: Birth Basics & Decision Points

Certified doula Chantel Spinner leads a practical childbirth education session that explains how labor typically progresses and what to expect in common birth settings. Participants will review the phases of labor, learn how progress is evaluated, and gain tools to understand frequently used interventions so they can make informed choices when decisions arise. Lunch is included. Registration is $50 for birthing parents and $25 for support partners. The Belles of Steel Pinball League hosts an IFPA sanctioned women’s tournament at Galactic Arcade in Valley View Mall. The competition follows a group knockout format with fair strikes, using eight strikes to narrow the field to the top four. Finals then shift to an Amazing Race style showdown to determine the final order. Entry is $10 plus coin drop. The top four share the prize pool, with payouts of 50 percent for first, 25 percent for second, 15 percent for third, and 10 percent for fourth. Newcomers are encouraged.

Roanoke Writers Meetup (Writers Gotta Write)

An inclusive meetup for anyone who writes, offering a welcoming space on alternating Sundays to talk craft, exchange feedback, ask questions, and carve out focused time to write. The group has gathered since late January 2024 and regularly welcomes newcomers, with participants spanning fiction, poetry, memoir, essays, local journalism, podcasting, and self-help. All experience levels are invited to participate, and sharing work is optional. Bring a notebook or laptop along with your current project. If you are between projects, prompts and ideas can be provided to help you get started. Culinary Mushroom Log Workshop 5/3

This hands-on class demystifies log-grown mushrooms and shows how simple and rewarding home cultivation can be. Guided by instructors with more than a decade of fungi experience and hosted by Mr. Mushroom Harder of Harder Mushrooms in partnership with LEAP, participants will learn how mushrooms colonize hardwood logs, the essentials of mushroom biology, how to choose and prepare logs, proven inoculation methods, and the care needed to fruit them at home. Everyone will inoculate one or two hardwood logs and can select from gourmet varieties such as shiitake, blue or golden oyster, comb’s tooth, and chestnut. Expect different timelines to the first flush depending on the species, with shiitake typically taking 8 to 12 months and allowing soak-forced fruiting in summer, oysters and chestnuts often appearing in 3 to 6 months, and comb’s tooth in about 6 to 9 months. With proper care, most people see their first harvest within 6 to 12 months, and well-maintained logs can continue producing for 4 to 5 years or longer. Couples and families are welcome to participate together, and groups can choose how many logs they would like to make. Space is limited due to equipment and room at the community garden, there is street parking, and a covered shelter is available, so the workshop runs rain or shine. Attendees can continue growing at home with additional supplies from the mushroom lab, including locally tested spawn and tabletop kits. Sawdust spawn can inoculate more than 20 logs per block with the right tools, while beginner-friendly plug spawn needs only a drill and hammer. Spawn stores well in the refrigerator for 6 to 12 months, and preordering is recommended if you already know you want extra materials because some varieties are made to order. Please bring eye protection or sunglasses, gloves if you prefer, and a water bottle. Clear take-home instructions are provided so you can keep your mushroom garden thriving long after the workshop.

Students from RBT’s school present Coppélia, a playful ballet where toys spring to life. Follow the bold Swanhilde, her sweetheart Franz, and their friends as curiosity leads them into the whimsical toy shop of the eccentric inventor Dr. Coppelius. Lively characters, mix-ups of identity, and classical choreography with roots in the 19th century come together for a comedic experience the whole family can enjoy.

Vic Thomas Park Trail Rehab & Expansion

Take part in a hands-on trail work day focused on improving the Vic Thomas skills loops in collaboration with the Roanoke Mountain Bike Alliance. RMBA will supply essentials like basic trail tools, wheelbarrows, gloves, and buckets, and extra shovels or buckets from participants are helpful since plenty of soil will be moved. All participants ages 6 and older are welcome. Please come dressed for outdoor work with long pants and closed-toed shoes. Popsicles will be handed out at the end. Advance sign-up is available.

Roanoke by Bicycle Film Series: RAD 40th Anniversary Screening

Celebrate four decades of pedal-powered thrills as the BMX cult favorite RAD returns to the big screen at The Grandin Theatre. Hosted by PedalSafe ROA and presented as part of the Roanoke By Bicycle Film Series from New Belgium Brewing, this screening supports PedalSafe ROA and highlights efforts to make cycling more accessible for everyone. A short program before the film will share updates from PedalSafe ROA and include the presentation of RIDE Solutions’ Bike Hero and Extraordinary Bike Professional awards, along with raffle drawings tied to an 80s costume contest. Attendees in retro attire will receive a special raffle ticket for a chance to win bike merchandise from Roanoke Mountain Adventures and Cardinal Bicycle. Beginner West Coast Swing Dance - 6 Wk series (April 15-May 20)

Explore the essentials of West Coast Swing in a six week fundamentals series at Carilion Wellness in Roanoke. This partner dance is taught in a linear slot and fits a wide range of music, including blues, swing, rock, hip hop, ballads, country, and pop. The beginner foundation curriculum includes core techniques, common patterns, warm ups, and drills. It welcomes newcomers and returning students. No partner or prior experience is required, and partners rotate during class. Attending the entire sequence is encouraged, and the series is designed to be repeated so you can deepen your basics and develop styling. On repeat rounds you may switch between lead and follow roles. Non members are welcome, and a waiver is required for the series. Wear clean soled, comfortable, non grippy shoes and clothing that allows easy movement, and skip flip flops. Please stay home if you feel unwell. Pricing is $15 per person per class, or $75 for the full six weeks if paid by the end of the first class. New students receive the first class free. If you are repeating the beginner level, the rate is $10 per class. Classes run each week only if at least four students are present. If turnout is lower, a 20 minute private or semi private lesson will be offered, and you can apply your drop in or series payment toward a longer private shared by those who attend. Private lessons for individuals and small groups are available for personalized coaching. The beginner content pairs well with the Intermediate Next Steps class for added practice. A welcoming environment and a community code of conduct guide all activities. Monthly all levels socials also take place in the region, rotating between Roanoke and Blacksburg.

Youth Mountain Bike Race

Roanoke Parks and Recreation is bringing back Roanoke’s youth mountain bike race for novice riders ages 2 to 14. Participants will ride a short course designed so spectators can easily watch, and racers are grouped with others of similar age and skill. Medals go to the top three finishers in each age group. Online pre-registration is available to keep lines short and speed up check-in, and it closes on the day of each race. On-site registration will be offered on race day before the action begins. Every rider must check in at registration before heading to the start line.

Collections Unpacked: Recent Gifts

A new series at the Roanoke History Museum and the O. Winston Link Museum offers a behind the scenes look at collection treasures that rarely leave storage. This inaugural program features ten recent gifts shown to the public for the first time. Executive Director and Curator Ashley Webb will share how these items were acquired, the stories they carry about the region, and what they reveal about Roanoke’s past and present. Through this curator guided experience, participants learn how museum staff document, care for, and preserve artifacts, and how such objects help tell and protect the community’s evolving story. Admission is $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers. Registration is required and space is limited. A future installment of the series will explore Revolutionary Relics. A companion program, Preserving Your Past, will offer practical guidance for caring for family photographs, heirlooms, and personal archives, beginning with a session focused on preserving family photographs, with additional details on cost and registration to be announced.

Along the way, you will explore safety and grounding with the Root, emotion and creativity with the Sacral, power and worth with the Solar Plexus, love and connection with the Heart, truth and expression with the Throat, intuition and clarity with the Third Eye, and trust and spiritual connection with the Crown. This journey can support those who have done mindset work yet still sense tension or old patterns in the body, who want a deeper relationship with their intuition, who are seeking a supportive space to release stress, emotions, or energetic blocks, who are curious about breathwork, or who feel called to explore the chakra system and reconnect with themselves. No prior experience is needed, only an open mind and your own breath. First Thursday's Nashville Songwriter's Round

3rd Street Coffeehouse launches a Nashville-style songwriter round hosted by Mona Raza, featuring three guest writers trading songs and stories in an intimate listening room setting. Art + Architecture Walking Tour

The experience lasts a little over an hour at a moderate pace. It begins at the Museum and concludes in the central business district near the Poff Building. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, and participants are encouraged to bring curiosity and questions. This outing complements another tour centered on the blocks surrounding the Museum that James also leads, though no prior tour is needed to enjoy this one. Advance registration is required. Tickets are $10 for members, $15 for the general public, and $5 for youth.

Resin Art Workshop

Craft a one-of-a-kind metal tray table while learning the art of resin pouring, also known as fluid art. In this hands-on workshop, you will design and pour a 13 inch round tray that stands about 19 inches tall. Select your table color at sign up from black, white, or pink. A range of mica powders, alcohol inks, paints, and other mix ins will be available to color and embellish the resin, and you will explore techniques such as ocean wave effects and marbling to create distinctive patterns. A salty snack and one beverage are included. Because space is limited, every participant must register for their own project. This experience is for adults and teens ages 15 and up. Resin does not wash out of clothing, so please dress accordingly. The finished piece requires two days to cure. Projects will stay at the studio and can be picked up later, with pickup details arranged during the workshop. Suitable for first timers and seasoned makers alike, and a good fit for individuals or small groups seeking a creative activity.

Guitars Under The Star

This outdoor acoustic guitar pull and song circle began when COVID arrived and has continued ever since, bringing people together to celebrate music in the grassy area opposite the lower observation deck at Mill Mountain. Originals and covers are equally welcome. Participants range from touring professionals to those who have never performed on a stage, and listeners are encouraged as well, so there is no need to play or sing to take part. Attendees typically park in the lower lot near the lower deck and are encouraged to bring an instrument, a folding chair, a cool beverage, and bug spray. A refreshing breeze is common from high above the city, and start times shift as the days grow longer and hotter. If the weather is uncooperative, the group plans to move to the Discovery Center first, or to the picnic shelter behind the Star just off the path. If conditions are severe, such as thunder or high winds, the gathering relocates to 3rd Street Coffeehouse, with location updates shared on the organizers’ Facebook page. 3rd Street Coffeehouse is a volunteer-run, nonprofit listening room in its 40th year with no cover charge, and guests who are able are invited to drop a couple of dollars in the tip bucket to help sustain the music, with no pressure for those who cannot. Appreciation is extended to the City of Roanoke and to Gretch Boeren at the Discovery Center for their support.

King of Tokyo × Godzilla USA Championship Qualifier

Organist David Lim offers a recital featuring works by Gerald Bales, George Shearing, and Jessica French, along with his organ version of Florence Price’s Symphony No. 3 in C minor. He received the Immanuel Lutheran Organ Scholar Award in 2014, holds degrees from Gustavus Adolphus College, the University of Iowa, and the University of Oklahoma, serves at St. John’s in the Wilderness Episcopal Church in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and teaches at the University of Wisconsin River Falls. The annual spring craft and vendor show returns to William Byrd Middle School in support of the William Byrd Middle School PTA. Food truck spots are $50 with limited availability. Payment is due at signup to hold a space and is handled only through the Savvy Events PayPal link posted on the event page. No other person is authorized to accept payments, so vendors should be alert to potential scams. A variety of activities are being organized to add to the experience. 2026 Local Colors Festival

Celebrating 35 years, this free, family friendly gathering is the largest multicultural festival in Roanoke, highlighting the many ethnic communities represented across the Roanoke Valley. It begins with a lively parade where residents carry flags from their heritage and wear traditional clothing, then continues at Elmwood Park in downtown Roanoke with an afternoon of global foods to sample, live music and dance from diverse traditions, cultural exhibits, shopping from vendors with goods from many cultures, and international beer. Children can make globally inspired crafts in a dedicated activity area and learn fun country facts through a passport style program. Performer and vendor applications will be available on the Local Colors website in the last week of January, which is the only way to apply, so please do not submit through comments.

KINNFOLK Concert at St. Elizabeth's

Popular Celtic duo Kinnfolk returns to St. Elizabeth’s for an outdoor concert, weather permitting. Their performance blends Irish and Scottish favorites with original songs, ranging from sea shanties and work songs to traditional tunes and old-time standards. Rooted in folklore and family heritage, Josh and Julie Kinn met at an Irish session, found a shared musical spark, and formed Kinnfolk. Drawing from the Appalachian tradition shaped by Irish and Scottish influences, they connect Celtic roots with contemporary energy. Since their start, Kinnfolk has appeared at festivals and listening rooms across Canada and the United States. Highlights include winning the Robinson Emerging Artist Showcase with a resulting main stage appearance at the Goderich Celtic Roots Festival, a cover feature in Irish Music Magazine, and recognition as one of the top Celtic bands to watch by The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. They have also received support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Roanoke for Star Above the Mountain, a project exploring local history, geography, and folklore that premiered to a full house. Their debut album introduced them to the international Celtic scene, and their follow up, The Knotted Circle, earned praise from Music Connection Magazine for balancing authentic roots with a light modern touch. Free hot dogs, chips, and water will be available. The concert will take place rain or shine, outside if conditions allow. Admission is free, and donations are welcome. All are invited.

Elmwood Park hosts a triathlon designed for little ones ages 18 months to 5 years. Kids will run, pedal on a bicycle or tricycle, and finish with a splash as they make their way to the finish line. Every child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Participants should bring a bicycle or tricycle, a helmet, tennis shoes, and comfortable clothing that can get wet. If the child still uses diapers or pull-ups, pack a swim diaper. A towel and a change of clothes will make the ride home easier. The fee is $20. Coffee and donuts will be available for adults, and young racers can enjoy juice boxes and snacks.

Kids to Parks Day: Free Elmwood Movies

Celebrate National Kids to Parks Day with a free double feature at Elmwood Park. The films are Zootopia 2 and The Great Outdoors, with time between screenings set aside to explore one of the city’s 51 parks in your favorite way. Bring chairs, blankets, and snacks for the whole family, and look for activities happening throughout the day. Thanks to Two Roosters Kettle Corn, the first 150 people to arrive will receive a free bag, limited to one per person or family. Food will be available from Hot Bunz Hot Dogs, and Charlee Tropical will offer water ice and lemonade for sale. Beer, wine, and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for purchase throughout the event. Admission is free and open to the public.

West African Ensemble Drum Class - Week 1

Learn and play rhythms from West Africa on djembe and dununs while exploring their origins, the communities connected to them, and their purpose. The first session focuses on djembe accompaniments, unison breaks, and a song, with cultural context woven throughout. The next class will review and add solo parts along with the dununs. Open to all experience levels. Cost is $10 if you bring a drum or $12 with a drum provided.

May 2026 Mexican Plant-Based Potluck (Oil Free)

An oil-free, Mexican-themed plant-based potluck takes place at Longwood Park. Anyone interested in plant-based eating, whether experienced or just starting out, is welcome. Big Something brings a two night run that spotlights the North Carolina group’s expansive rock sound. Over more than a decade together, they have released seven full length studio albums with Grammy nominated producer John Custer, including Stories from the Middle of Nowhere from 2010 along with Big Something, Truth Serum, Tumbleweed, The Otherside, and Escape. Alma Ensemble presents a classical chamber music series in Roanoke, Virginia at Community High School of Arts & Academics, bringing together students, amateur players, and professional musicians to showcase music by women in a welcoming setting. She was the first woman in country music to achieve three consecutive multi week chart toppers and is a key voice in the resurgence of 90s country. The concert will take place rain or shine. All American Hauling Will Call is located at the entrance to the right of the ValleyStar Credit Union box office. Children 12 and under receive free admission in the WILLSCOT General Admission Area. NOLS Hybrid Wilderness First Responder

This 80-hour NOLS Hybrid Wilderness First Responder course combines three online learning modules with five days of in-person training. Expect 10 to 15 hours of work for each online module. The Dub Brothers unite Virginia artists Stephen Gabriel Lewis, also known as The Ambassador, and Brent Hoskins in a reggae-driven collaboration that draws on years of working together. Lewis offers expressive vocals and uplifting songwriting shaped by performances alongside The Wailers, Steel Pulse, and Stick Figure, while Hoskins contributes versatile production and musicianship informed by collaborations with The Movement, Amos Lee, and Donna the Buffalo. Reconnected from their early careers, they blend soul, reggae, rock, and inventive rhythms, with new releases planned for 2026. Countryman Jamaican Grill will serve as the featured food truck, and beer, seltzer, tea, additional non-alcoholic beverages, and snacks will be available for purchase. His debut album Long Black Train achieved Platinum certification, and its title track reached multi-Platinum status. Kaleta & Super Yamba Band w. Africa Unplugged

Feel the pulse of Afrobeat, Juju, funk and soul as Brooklyn’s Kaleta & Super Yamba Band share grooves shaped by deep roots in West African music. Fronted by singer and guitarist Leon Ligan-Majek, known as Kaleta, the group traces its story from the Benin Republic to Lagos, the birthplace of Afrobeat, where Kaleta came of age before touring and recording with Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Lauryn Hill and more. Kaleta began playing in church in the late 1970s, was recruited by King Sunny Ade, then spent the 1980s and into the 1990s performing guitar with Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80. Now based in New York City, he has led Super Yamba Band since 2017. Their debut album Mèdaho, released by Ubiquity Records, honors Kaleta’s late brother and channels the raw, psychedelic sounds of 1970s Benin, earning recognition on Bandcamp’s Best Albums of Summer 2019 and featuring songs selected for the ABC/Hulu series High Fidelity starring Zoe Kravitz. The band has appeared at the Apollo Theater, on Adult Swim’s Fishcenter Live, and at Paste Magazine’s Emerging Music Festival, and its members bring experience performing and collaborating with artists including David Byrne, Rubblebucket, Yeasayer, Between The Buried And Me, and Senegalese talking drum master Modou Mbenge, as well as Ghanaian singer Osei Korankye and Guinean singer Ismael Kouyate. Africa Unplugged opens the show, led by djembe master, guitarist and songwriter Atiba Rorie, blending West African percussion with guitars and bass for funky, soulful blues and dance rhythms that keep people moving while sharing stories from the old world and the new.

C&E Gun and Knife Sale

The C&E Gun and Knife Sale brings a two-day event to The Salem Civic Center. Adult admission is $10, and children under 12 are admitted free with a paying adult. A ticket purchased on the first day is valid for both days. For safety, loaded firearms are not permitted, with no exceptions.

Speakeasy Jazz Nights at Hotel Roanoke

A new performance has been added for a limited-capacity speakeasy night. A tucked-away space beneath the Pine Room and the 1882 Lobby Bar is reimagined as the Fox City Jazz Club, an intimate room with a pre-Prohibition feel that draws inspiration from Roanoke’s jazz legacy. The evening showcases T-FOX & the Fox City Band, a five-piece ensemble fronted by vocalist T-Fox, and sets the tone for jazz fans, cocktail enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a memorable night out. Tickets are $40 per guest. A $25 food and beverage minimum applies per person, and it can be fulfilled before the show in the Pine Room or the 1882 Lobby Bar, or during the performance in AKA. Young artists ages 5 to 9 explore the Museum’s galleries, make friends, and dive into creative projects. Guided by artist educators, campers create artwork inspired by what they discover in the galleries. The experience features engaging tours and games that link the Museum’s collection to everyday life. In the Museum classroom, participants work on a range of pieces that will be showcased in an art show at the end of camp. Time in Art Venture, the Museum’s interactive gallery space, adds hands-on learning and play to the day.

Dark Hollow Day Camp at Girl Scout Camp Icimani in Roanoke offers a one-week day program filled with hands-on adventures for rising 1st through 11th graders. Camp Kidable: Week 1 (Ages 5-10)

Camp Kidable offers a half-day, inclusive summer experience where children build skills through play in a supportive setting tailored to each camper. This session is designed for ages 5 to 10 and is led by a pediatric occupational therapist alongside a pediatric speech-language pathologist. Activities focus on motor, sensory, social, and communication development. Caregivers receive a brief daily update that highlights each child’s interests, any individualized supports provided, and strategies introduced and practiced. Families are encouraged to send a water bottle and a snack. The program fee is $238 per child. The camp takes place at the Kidable Clubhouse in Cave Spring. Registration is completed through the Kidable Clubhouse booking portal by selecting the Week 1 session and creating or signing in to an account using the child’s information, then submitting the registration form. Tom Petty Tribute: The Broken Hearts

Part of the Cundiff Heating & Cooling Flashback Concert Series, The Broken Hearts bring a heartfelt celebration of Tom Petty’s music. The group was created by Charlie Souza, a former Tom Petty and Mudcrutch bandmate, together with singer and songwriter Shawn Scheller after Petty’s passing. What began as a short-term memorial project soon drew ongoing requests, eventually becoming an official touring tribute honoring the life and music of Thomas Earl Petty. The current lineup features guitarist Mateo Olivo in the role of Mike Campbell, Dave Walker as bassist Ron Blair, Aidan Cain as Benmont Tench on keyboards, piano, synthesizers, harmonica and acoustic guitar, and Chris “Blu” McDonald as Stan Lynch on drums. Original member Scott Lockhart contributes drums, guitar, harmonica, vocals, percussion and live production, while Shawn Scheller portrays Tom Petty on vocals and both acoustic and electric guitars. Earlier iterations included Robin Swenson, Joe Sanders and Scott Lockhart. This concert takes place rain or shine. Children 12 and younger receive free entry in general admission areas. There is no re-entry. Credit cards and cash are accepted at the gate, though some vendors may accept cash only. All American Hauling will call is located at the entrance to the right of the ValleyStar Credit Union box office.
