Mostly Mozart

New Texas Sinfonia closes its season with a program devoted to the brilliance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, complemented by music from Franz Schubert and C. P. E. Bach. The program includes Symphony No. 34 in C major, written in 1780 for Salzburg listeners and full of charm and exuberance even as the composer faced frustration with limited prospects at home. The concert highlights the admiration composers from Schubert to Schoenberg have held for Mozart, whose early tours with his sister under the guidance of their father helped shape music that blends wit, heartfelt melody, and spirited drama. Weston Jennings conducts, with Kahlan Yenney on bassoon, at Fine Arts at First Presbyterian Church of Tyler, Texas.
