33rd Student Juried Exhibition Receptions

Presented by the Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council, the 33rd Annual Student Juried Exhibition highlights creative work by students from across the Four States region. From 843 submissions, 23 percent were selected for display at the Regional Arts Center, with final choices made by juror M. Robyn Wall. The show features 87 high school pieces, 41 from middle school students, and 62 from elementary artists. To celebrate the participants, three brief public receptions at the Regional Arts Center welcome students, parents, teachers, and friends. Each age group will be recognized with ribbons and cash awards, with separate segments for high school, middle school, and elementary participants. Visitors can vote for the People’s Choice Award in advance at the Regional Arts Center, and there is no voting on the day of the reception.

May Evenings Wheel Throwing

This four-part ceramics course introduces the fundamentals of wheel throwing with guidance from master potter John Delafield. Participants learn essential skills such as wedging, centering, pulling and lifting walls, shaping handles, and applying glaze, building confidence and technique from one session to the next. The series unfolds over four evening meetings, beginning with an introduction and first throws, continuing with focused throwing practice, then combining throwing with glazing, and concluding with a dedicated glazing session. Comfortable clothing that can handle clay is recommended. Tuition is $275. All clay, glazes, and tools are provided by the artist and TRAHC. Refunds are available only if fewer than five people register. Sessions take place in the Clay Eichler Ceramics Studio inside TRAHC’s ArtSpace.

At Bringle Lake Park, this 5K fun run and walk raises support for the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue K9 Team while celebrating 20 years of the program. Imagination takes flight in a hands-on art camp for ages 10 to 14. Participants create painted panels for the outdoor public art wall in downtown Texarkana, exploring sky and flight imagery such as birds, clouds, cosmic scenes, aviation, hot air balloons, and air travel. Guided by TRAHC staff, they build skills in composition, shape, color, and other techniques suited to large-scale painting. Hope Rush "Fun" Raiser Duck Decorating and Duck Race

Big Dam Waterpark hosts a duck race fundraiser that supports homeless youth through scholarships. Participants can adopt small racing ducks to compete down the lazy river, choosing one, five, twelve, or a larger flock, with adoptions starting at $5 and savings for multiple ducks. There is also an option to sponsor a large duck for $100, decorate it in secret, and unveil it during the event. All large ducks will be displayed for a people’s choice vote and evaluated by local celebrity judges, with the top three entries receiving trophies and over $500 in prizes. Bragging rights and prize money are on the line, and there is an opportunity to challenge another person or business on social media to get involved. Proceeds fund scholarships that allow homeless youth to attend after-school and summer programs at no cost, offering at-risk young people a safe place to belong during a vulnerable time.

Fused Glass Bluebonnet Suncatcher Workshop

Create a 5 by 7 inch bluebonnet suncatcher under the guidance of glass artist Kathy Madison of A Glass Act Creations and her daughter Rachael in the Calhoun Studio at TRAHC's ArtSpace. Participants will plan and assemble their design during class, while the instructor completes the final firing afterward. Sample designs are provided as inspiration, and every piece will include a glass strip at the top with a chain so it can hang in a window or on a wall. Finished works will be ready for pickup about four to five days after class, and participants will be notified when they are available. All materials, tools, and safety gear are supplied by the artist and TRAHC. Tuition is nonrefundable unless fewer than nine people register. Open to ages 10 and up, with a parent required to accompany anyone under 16. Early registration at least one week in advance is encouraged to ensure materials are prepared. Last Splash (8+)

Designed for ages 8 and up, Last Splash is a lively end-of-summer art camp led by Kay Thomas, a National Teaching Artist. Young creators will experiment with water and summer-inspired projects using vivid color, fluid methods, and imaginative design to craft artwork that reflects the spirit of the season’s close. The camp takes place in TRAHC's ArtSpace, Calhoun Studio, and the fee is $75.
