Conroe-Community Breast Ultrasound Screening

Access a convenient breast ultrasound screening in the event meeting room at Positively Unfiltered Body Salon. Provided by HerScan, this community service helps you add ultrasound to your regular breast health plan. Ultrasound can substantially improve detection, raising the chance of finding breast cancer from about 48 percent to as high as 97 percent, especially for those with dense breast tissue. It can also identify cancers that might not appear on a mammogram or be found during a physical exam. The visit is designed to be fast and comfortable. There is no radiation, it is safe for individuals with implants, and every exam is interpreted by a radiologist. No prescription is required. The screening includes imaging of both breasts and the underarm area, plus the radiologist’s reading, for $295, a service value that can be as high as $1,100. Appointments are available through HerScan at community health events like this one.

Potato Gumbo

Jean Ciampi’s stage play blends warmth and irreverence while confronting the realities of aging and the shifting roles within a family. Gretchen entices Thomas with a culinary dream tied to the New Orleans School of Cooking, setting off plans that lead to a spur-of-the-moment road trip, a pair of stolen handcuffs, a police-escorted return, and a diagnosis that changes the conversation. Their grown children wrestle with how to protect the people who raised them without taking over, as questions arise about memory, the limits of a tired heart, and where care crosses into control. This production is presented through a special arrangement with Next Stage Press, LLC. Support comes from Acme Consulting, along with partial funding from the City of Conroe Arts & Culture Grant, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Texas Commission on the Arts.

The group values consistent participation, purposeful relationship building with peer advisory, an active exchange of referrals, and ongoing professional development. Potato Gumbo

The Players Theatre Company presents Potato Gumbo, a play by Jean Ciampi that blends humor with heartfelt moments to explore aging and the shifting balance between parents and their adult children. Gretchen pursues a long-held dream and is sure the perfect recipe is waiting at the New Orleans School of Cooking. She pulls Thomas into spontaneous schemes that spiral into trouble, including a questionable pair of handcuffs and a ride back under police escort. As the escapades subside, a diagnosis and the concerns of their adult children come forward, raising difficult questions about whether Gretchen’s playfulness masks something more serious, how much strain an older heart can bear, and where care ends and control begins. This production is presented through a special arrangement with Next Stage Press, LLC. Sponsorship is provided by Acme Consulting, with partial support from the City of Conroe Arts & Culture Grant, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Texas Commission on the Arts.
