Little Lotus Storytelling Yoga

At Blue Willow Coffee, Little Lotus Storytelling Yoga invites children to step into tales through playful movement, mindful breathing, creativity, and connection. This heart-centered approach helps kids explore life skills as each class focuses on a theme such as kindness, courage, gratitude, patience, emotional balance, or self-worth. Stories come to life as children become trees, lions, and butterflies, try dragon breaths, and uncover the wisdom within themselves. The focus is not on perfect poses, but on building confidence, resilience, empathy, self-awareness, and healthy ways to navigate big feelings while having fun. Families can look forward to imaginative storytelling, yoga-inspired movement, breathing and mindfulness, creative expression and play, social connection, and character building woven into every experience. Parents and caregivers may participate in select family moments and receive simple tools to continue at home. This session offers a chance to meet Michele Marie, an Integrated Mindfulness Yoga Therapist, published author, children’s yoga educator, and founder of Lotus Lounge Yoga & Wellness, experience the Little Lotus approach, and try a sample storytelling adventure that shows how movement, mindfulness, and imagination support children’s growth. Suitable for ages 4 to 10, and no prior yoga experience is required. Participants can expect to move, laugh, imagine, and grow together.

PWAM: Read to the Dogs

Children can build confidence and fluency by reading aloud to specially trained therapy dogs in this Central Library program presented with Pets with a Mission. It is designed for ages 4 to 12 who read independently or with a little assistance. Children who are not yet reading are welcome to enjoy books in the library with their caregivers. The session takes place in the Central Children’s Storytime Room and is free to the public. Registration is required and opens two weeks before the program. Please register only the children who will be reading, as parents and nonreaders do not need to sign up. When arriving, readers check in at the Children’s Desk to enter the line. Kids may bring a book from home or choose one from the library. Each child spends about 5 to 10 minutes reading with a dog, then may rejoin the line for another turn if time allows. Those waiting for their first turn will be prioritized. The experience is one-on-one between the reader and the dog, and parents or siblings are asked to sit quietly in the designated area or wait outside the room. To request disability accommodations, contact the host library at least three days in advance.

Jeff Ruby at The Red Brick Tavern

Jeff Ruby brings a free solo acoustic set of original songs to The Red Brick Tavern. All ages are welcome. His writing draws on a wide range of life experience, often exploring hard living, social concerns, and perseverance with a storyteller’s touch. Raised on a farm in Indiana, he taught himself guitar while absorbing influences from Seattle grunge and Brit-pop. After a college stint focused on business and heavy drinking, he sought a reset, moving to Orange Beach, Alabama in 2004, quitting alcohol, and turning to songwriting as he moved from open mics to paid shows. He later relocated to Nashville with a guitar and a handful of songs, released his debut EP, Beyond The Pale, in 2010, and has continued to build a prolific body of performances and recordings.
