Ultrasound can substantially improve detection, raising the chance of finding breast cancer from about 48 percent to as high as 97 percent, especially for those with dense breast tissue. It can also identify cancers that might not appear on a mammogram or be found during a physical exam. The visit is designed to be fast and comfortable. There is no radiation, it is safe for individuals with implants, and every exam is interpreted by a radiologist. No prescription is required. The screening includes imaging of both breasts and the underarm area, plus the radiologist’s reading, for $295, a service value that can be as high as $1,100. Appointments are available through HerScan at community health events like this one.
