The organizers run the game so you can sit down and play. Entry is $8 per person, and new players get their first session free. Bringing a new player earns 10 Renown points. Renown points serve as a custom take on experience. You earn them by playing, inviting newcomers, and purchasing D&D supplies. To reach each level, you need ten times the level number in points, such as 20 for level 2 or 30 for level 3, and when you spend points to level up, your total resets to zero for the next climb. Progress is quicker at early levels and slows as you advance. Players receive 10 points per session, plus a 10-point bonus for a first session and another 10-point bonus for bringing a new player. Keep an eye on the weekly post on the store’s main page for the featured adventures. Commenting there can unlock extras like two-for-one pulls from the D&D Treasure Trove, added Renown opportunities, and other rotating surprises. Hope Sports and Recreation is offering a full slate of summertime activities for kids, blending athletics, adventure, and creative learning. Young hoopers entering first through fourth grade can build fundamentals on eight-and-a-half foot goals with smaller 27.5 and 28.5 balls. Instruction focuses on dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and defense, with plenty of play in one-on-one, three-on-three, and five-on-five formats, plus friendly contests for free throws, jump shots, and layups. Gamers in grades three through seven for the 2026-27 school year can compete in 2K and Rocket League, emphasizing non-violent titles with head-to-head matches and team play organized into four squads of four. Rock climbing welcomes boys and girls in grades one to six, with High Point instructors covering basics. Arriving about 15 minutes early is recommended for check in. Sessions introduce the gym and etiquette, offer lesson-based climbing, cover equipment use and knot tying, build technique through bouldering and games, and include time for open climbing. Parents are welcome to observe. A 10 week running program serves ages 5 to 12 in elementary and middle school. Training meets two days each week for one hour and concludes with the Celebrate Munford 5K as a graduation race, which includes race entry, a medal, and a T shirt for participants. Parents may attend sessions, register themselves for the race for 35 dollars, or run alongside their child without registering and without receiving a shirt or bib. Family involvement is encouraged through take home materials, weekly scripture cards, a poster to track goals and attendance, small weekly rewards, race medals and certificates, and all the equipment needed for drills such as mini hurdles, bands, and cones. An instructional pickleball class builds a solid grasp of safe gear choices, basic mechanics, the rules and scoring that keep games fair, and on-court strategy and positioning. A four week photography course invites students to grow creative skills, starting with angles, framing, and composition alongside a photo scavenger hunt. The second week explores how light shapes every image by comparing different lighting approaches. The third week focuses on people and storytelling, capturing moments and emotions and crafting a short narrative with three photos. The final week is devoted to creating a capstone project and sharing it with the group. The teacher emphasizes hands-on practice, creativity, and celebrating each student’s work. A five week introductory martial arts camp led by Master Michael McGee covers core skills for martial arts and self defense. Parents are welcome to observe each session. Participants should use soft-soled shoes. Early arrival, about 15 to 20 minutes before start time, is recommended for warm ups. Entry is through Entrance 3 by going up the second ramp. Disc golf instruction highlights control over power and helps newcomers understand why discs fly the way they do. Lessons explain the differences between putters, mid ranges, and drivers and why high speed distance drivers are not ideal for beginners. Coaches break down grip and stance, comparing a power grip for distance with a fan grip for touch, and teach a compact pull across the chest. Flight concepts such as understable, stable, and overstable flight, natural fade at the end of a throw, and the effect of nose angle are covered. Basic etiquette and rules are introduced, including starting from the tee pad, throwing from the lie directly behind the previous throw, and letting the player farthest from the target go first.

Brookhaven Pub and GrillGather: Creative Gatherings for Caregivers
At ShapeShifter Art School and Gallery, caregivers are invited to contribute to the Scroll of Medical Entanglements, a collaborative artwork that traces the paperwork, routes, delays, barriers, and surprising links that shape caregiving. The first gathering mapped referrals, diagnoses, waitlists, approvals and denials, phone calls, crises, breakthroughs, and the persistence behind the scenes, resulting in a growing visual record that is both personal and widely shared. This session continues the scroll and welcomes both returning participants and first-timers. No artistic experience is required. Contribute by drawing, writing, annotating, telling a story, or simply spending time with others who know how a single form can turn into a recurring character in a family’s story. Gather is a collaboration between Fierce Mamas and ShapeShifter Art School & Gallery, creating space to explore the stories, objects, and experiences caregiving leaves behind. Activities may include drawing, writing, collage, textiles, sculpture, or found materials, and some gatherings may begin with conversation, questions, or artifacts from daily care. Together, participants consider how individual moments become shared narratives and how creative practice can illuminate the systems, relationships, and responsibilities surrounding care. Registration is offered on a pay-what-you-can basis through ShapeShifter.

LAWRENCE WELLS: BACKSTORY
An event with author Lawrence Wells celebrates the release of Backstory: A Literary Life on the Run, a collection of behind the scenes adventures from cross country magazine assignments he shared with Dean Faulkner Wells. The pieces explore how unexpected moments shaped their reporting, opening with Dean’s conversation with Willie “Suicide” Jones, the wing walker who flew with her father, and closing with her childhood memories of a Christmas at Rowan Oak, the home of her uncle William Faulkner. Along the way the two visit Wounded Knee, where Dean leaves a lock of hair in a gesture of kinship, spend an evening in Little Rock with authors Charles Portis and Dee Brown, talk jazz in San Francisco with Wild Mango and singer guitarist Joyce Cooling, trace the Santa Fe Trail, and take in Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo. Candid personal scenes appear throughout, from a reception for Budd Schulberg in Montauk and dinner at Lee Krasner’s home, to a Long Island party where Lauren Bacall jokes about Dean’s voice, to a Louisiana swamp where an alligator rests near Larry’s feet, and even a tense moment in Las Vegas brought on by slot machines. Taken together, the stories sketch a marriage of mind and spirit. Dean Faulkner Wells, William Faulkner’s niece and former ward, studied at the University of Mississippi and the University of Geneva. Her work includes The Ghosts of Rowan Oak, editing The New Great American Writers’ Cookbook and The Best of Bad Faulkner, the memoir Every Day by the Sun, and articles for The Paris Review, Parade, Ladies’ Home Journal, Southern Living, and more. Lawrence Wells has edited William Faulkner: The Cofield Collection by Jack Cofield and RIOT: Witness to Anger and Change by Ed Meek, written the novels Rommel and the Rebel, Let the Band Play Dixie, and Fair Youth, scripted the Emmy winning PBS documentary Return to the River narrated by James Earl Jones, contributed frequently to the New York Times Syndicate, and authored the memoirs In Faulkner’s Shadow and Ghostwriter for University Press of Mississippi.
