Two lighted stations near the main trail entrance will draw in moths for closer viewing, and Amanda will assist with identification and share observations about the species that appear. Registration is required, and carpooling is encouraged. If plans change after registering, please cancel so another person can take the spot. Parking is at Stable on the Woods. Participants may bring a folding chair and a flashlight. If using insect repellent, apply it at home or by your vehicle before meeting the group. There are no public restrooms or water refill points on site, so plan accordingly. This special program takes place outside the Woods’ regular operating hours. Hitchcock Woods spans 2,100 acres in Aiken, South Carolina and is recognized as the largest urban forest in the United States. With 70 miles of trails, it welcomes visitors on foot and on horseback. Owned and managed by the Hitchcock Woods Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the forest includes mature pine and bottomland hardwood habitats that support a rich diversity of plants and wildlife. It is permanently protected by a conservation easement held by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and is designated as a South Carolina Heritage Preserve Trust site.

Right Start Driving Academy Permit Class
Preparing for the DMV knowledge exam can be challenging. This permit class provides a focused two hour review, followed by administration of the knowledge and permit test. Students enrolled in the teen driver course may attend the permit portion at no cost. If you pass, you will receive a sealed envelope containing your results to present at the DMV, where a vision screening and photo will be completed before a South Carolina beginners permit is printed. Eligibility is limited to United States citizens who have not previously held a beginners permit. Please bring a birth certificate if you are in high school, or a South Carolina state identification card, as proof of identity. Passing is not guaranteed, and the SC DMV may randomly recall applicants for re-testing. Space is limited, and online registration is available.

The 16th Annual Fit 4 School is a free, family-focused event created to help students begin the school year ready and confident. Highlights include school supplies for K–12 students, complimentary haircuts, health care screenings, and activities for children of all ages. Children need to attend in person to receive supplies, since the experience is designed especially for them. Featuring a lively safari theme, the event brings together community partners and helpful resources to support students and their families before the first school bell rings. Live bluegrass returns to Stable View as the Aiken Bluegrass Series presents a season of concerts that bring the local community together. Performances are planned outdoors on the grounds by the Pavilion, with ample room and parking. If weather becomes an issue, the music moves indoors and seating is provided. Guests may bring lawn chairs or blankets for outdoor shows. Each event features three bands, along with on-site food from The Bistro at Stable View and beer and wine available at Ollie’s Inn. Admission is free for children 12 and under.
