Hitchcock Woods Foundation Field Program - Moth Night Out

A family-friendly evening in Hitchcock Woods spotlights the fascinating world of moths with the Hitchcock Woods Foundation Field Program and guest field trip leader Amanda Hurst, Outreach Coordinator with the UGA Savannah River Ecology Lab. Two lighted stations near the main trail entrance will draw in moths for closer viewing, and Amanda will assist with identification and share observations about the species that appear. Registration is required, and carpooling is encouraged. If plans change after registering, please cancel so another person can take the spot. Parking is at Stable on the Woods. Participants may bring a folding chair and a flashlight. If using insect repellent, apply it at home or by your vehicle before meeting the group. There are no public restrooms or water refill points on site, so plan accordingly. This special program takes place outside the Woods’ regular operating hours. Hitchcock Woods spans 2,100 acres in Aiken, South Carolina and is recognized as the largest urban forest in the United States. With 70 miles of trails, it welcomes visitors on foot and on horseback. Owned and managed by the Hitchcock Woods Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the forest includes mature pine and bottomland hardwood habitats that support a rich diversity of plants and wildlife. It is permanently protected by a conservation easement held by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and is designated as a South Carolina Heritage Preserve Trust site.
