Gabriel Sanchez Carpio: Cuero | Appell Arts Fellowship Exhibition
Cuero showcases a body of paintings by Gabriel Sanchez Carpio that consider how Caribbean traditions intermingle within contemporary life shaped by Western influences. Through narrative image making, everyday moments are set in conversation with the spiritual, inviting a dialogue between the ordinary and the mystical. Presented in connection with the Appell Arts Fellowship, the exhibition is part of a program that, along with the Powder Mill Foundation Arts Fellowship, offers eleven-month residencies to recent York College graduates pursuing creative careers. Fellows conclude their terms by sharing the work produced during the residency in an exhibition or other public presentation. An artist talk and an opening reception accompany the show.
One-shot Tabletop RP Games
At Mapa's Boli, one-shot tabletop roleplaying sessions welcome both first-timers and seasoned adventurers. Games use the EZD6 system, which emphasizes quick, accessible gameplay compared with more complex systems like D&D. This recurring series takes place every fourth Wednesday. Sessions begin promptly, so participants should be ready to start on time. The featured adventure, Dreadful Doomscapes, is intended for all ages. Each event stands alone rather than continuing a single campaign, making it easy to drop in whenever it suits your schedule. Registration is required and space is first come, first served.
Mapa's BoliBreathing Qi Movements & Meditation
Guided by Jancie Quest, a teacher with over 30 years in breathwork, Qigong, and meditation, this five-week exploration of Breathing Qi introduces a calm blend of mindful breathing, gentle movement, and accessible meditation to raise energy, expand potential, and refresh perspective. The series is suitable for beginners as well as seasoned practitioners, with a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. Weather permitting, sessions take place outdoors on the grounds of Leg Up Farmers Market. If it rains, activities shift to the community room. Expect time to breathe, move, and reset.
