Bluegrass Fast Jam

A fast paced bluegrass circle focused on acoustic stringed instruments, this session is geared toward players with solid command of their instruments who want a musical challenge. Expect higher tempos, more intricate arrangements, and singing and picking that aim for advanced bluegrass musicianship. Electric amplification and percussion are not part of this jam. Participants are expected to know the standard repertoire, keep steady time at speed, take breaks with confidence, and contribute strong rhythm or vocals. Less experienced players are welcome to attend to listen and play along, and are asked to respect the flow if requested to sit out on a tune. The aim is to keep the music driving and challenging while still sharing songs, trading breaks, and encouraging one another. Those seeking an all-levels experience can find other jam dates at Velum or around town on the organizer’s events page. The gathering takes place at Velum Fermentation in the South Side, which offers a parking lot and nearby street parking.

Bachata 2: Adv beg/int turn patterns, variations & flow with Rachel & Vincent

Build on the foundations from Bachata 1 in a class that refreshes the basic step with clear weight transfer, right and left turns, forward and back basics, and changes of direction, then expands into patterns and combinations rooted in those essentials. Instruction highlights a dependable lead and follow, strong frame, and precise timing so dancers feel comfortable partnering with classmates and others. Concepts from earlier sessions are reviewed and layered in as the weeks progress, and participants are welcome to train at their current level or revisit any earlier point in their learning sequence. Pricing options include $120 for a 12 class package, $75 for 6 classes, $60 for 4 classes, or $20 for a single drop-in. Packages have no expiration date and can be used for any ongoing class series, excluding workshops. This class takes place at CB Squirrel Hill.
