6 Week Youth Series: Intro to Contemporary Dance (6-12 year)

A six week youth series introduces ages 6 to 12 to the building blocks of contemporary dance in a welcoming, creative setting. Rooted in modern traditions such as Graham, Limón and release-based practice, the class helps young movers develop intentionality, expressive range and control. Participants explore breath-led phrasing inspired by Limón ideas, Graham-style core work that builds strength and coordination, safe ways to move down to and up from the floor, purposeful use of weight and momentum, and clear posture, balance and spatial awareness. They practice grounded sequences and travel through space with fluidity, while rhythm and musicality grow through both structured drills and imaginative tasks. Guided improvisation and short combinations encourage creativity, confidence and personal expression. The program blends solid technique with creative exploration and emotional awareness in an inclusive, encouraging environment, supporting growth both artistically and physically. By the end, students strengthen coordination and confidence and gain a deeper understanding of how to communicate through movement. This is a six week session priced at $70 for the full series, with enrollment for the complete session. Shared online resources are provided, and scholarships along with sliding scale options are available.

6 week Series - Building Blocks of Dance (3-5 Year old)

This six week series welcomes young dancers ages 3 to 5 who are ready to deepen body awareness while continuing to grow creativity and self expression. Drawing on principles from modern and contemporary dance, each class explores how the body moves through different positions, pathways, and dynamics. Children practice moving while upright and on the floor, including traveling smoothly into and out of the floor. They develop healthy alignment and posture for safe, efficient motion, learn to shift weight and find balance, and discover how to navigate space at high, middle, and low levels with clear directional intent. Participants refine articulation of the arms, legs, torso, and head both independently and together, and connect shapes with seamless transitions. Influences from contemporary practice encourage work with fluidity, suspension, release, and control. The curriculum bridges creative movement and more formal training so dancers learn not only what to do, but also how and why the body moves, building a strong foundation for future study. The fee for the complete six week session is $70, and shared online resources are included. Scholarships and sliding scale options are available, and registration is for the full session.

First Friday: Prize-winning Plumage and Bird Behaviors with Jan Bowman

Take a close look at the colors, patterns, and behaviors of birds from nearby habitats and tropical regions in a presentation led by Jan Bowman. Drawing on years of guiding students in Costa Rica and Panama, along with careful observation and photography in western New York, she will highlight favorite species that include local residents, tropical standouts, and seasonal migrants, and show why birds close to home can be every bit as captivating as those from the tropics. Jan Bowman is a recently retired professor of biology and former environmental science program coordinator at Jamestown Community College with nearly 35 years of teaching experience. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology with secondary education certification and a master’s degree in biology from SUNY Fredonia, where her graduate work led to two scientific journal publications. Her master’s research examined macrophytes and population changes in Chautauqua Lake. She serves as board chair for the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy and is a board member of both the Chautauqua-Conewango Consortium and the Chautauqua County Parks Commission. A strong advocate for experiential learning, she has led many field experiences, including travel to Costa Rica and Panama. Her long-time commitment to field work and photography allows her to share those experiences through images, and in retirement she aims to reach a broader audience. She lives in Ashville, NY with her husband, Dan, enjoys gardening and fishing, and remains dedicated to conservation and education. Attendees may bring a packed lunch and stay to visit with the speaker and fellow participants after the program. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for Nature Center members, and the rate for children ages 9 to 15 is $6. Reservations are appreciated, and walk-ins are welcome.

6 Week Youth Series: Intro to Contemporary Dance (6-12 year)

This six-week youth series introduces ages 6 to 12 to the foundations of contemporary dance in a supportive, creative setting at Sukanya Burman Dance. Guided by techniques drawn from Limón, Graham, and release-based practices, students learn to move with intention, expression, and control. Classes weave breath-driven movement, contraction and release, fall and recovery, and the use of weight and momentum with attention to alignment, balance, and spatial awareness. Dancers practice floor work and traveling phrases to move fluidly through space, and build musicality and rhythm through structured and creative exercises. Alongside technique, participants explore guided improvisation and simple choreography to encourage creativity, confidence, and self-expression. The SBD approach combines strong technical foundations with creative exploration and emotional awareness, creating an inclusive and encouraging space where each child can grow both technically and artistically. By the end of the series, students develop coordination, strength, confidence, and a deeper connection between movement, feeling, and imagination. The fee is $70 for the full six-week session, sign-up is required for the full session, shared online resources are provided, and scholarships and sliding-scale options are available.

6 Week Series - Building Blocks of Dance (3-5 Year Old)

Designed for young movers who are ready to build on their natural curiosity, Building Blocks of Dance introduces the fundamentals of modern and contemporary movement while continuing to encourage creativity and self expression. Participants explore how the body moves in both upright and grounded positions, including standing, floor work, and smooth transitions to and from the floor. Lessons focus on safe alignment and posture, shifting weight and finding balance, and traveling through space at high, middle, and low levels with clear directional intent. Children practice isolating and coordinating arms, legs, torso, and head, then link shapes with seamless transitions. Drawing from contemporary practices, the series highlights ideas such as fluidity, suspension, release, and control. Serving as a bridge between creative movement and more formal training, this six week series helps dancers understand not only what to move, but how and why the body moves, building a strong foundation for future study. The fee is $70 for the complete session, and registration is for the full series. Shared online resources are included, with scholarships and sliding scale options available.

Katherine Kepner- Rembemberance

Remembrance showcases a curated group of watercolor pieces by Katherine Kepner, featuring quiet, atmospheric studies that explore landscape. Kepner turned to watercolor in 2021, spending long stretches practicing during pandemic restrictions. When in-person activities resumed, she joined a local art group and received the top award at its spring show for a large marsh painting, an experience that encouraged continued growth and exhibition. The works move between nearby scenes, places held in memory, and imagined vistas. Rather than documenting a single moment, they aim to capture the feeling of being in a place and invite viewers to linger with that mood.

Bill Law Memorial RUSH Late Model Touring Series $4,000 to Win

Stateline Speedway hosts the Bill Law Memorial with the RUSH Late Model Touring Series, where drivers compete for $4,000 to win. The race card also includes Super Late Models, Outlaw Modifieds, RUSH Pro Mods, Pro Stocks, RUSH Stock Cars, and Challengers. This memorial honors Bill Law, a lifelong supporter of racing whose dedication began in the late 1970s with muscle cars and drag strips. He did not race himself, yet he played vital roles behind the scenes by backing drivers, assisting crews, and traveling to tracks across multiple states. He later guided his son Jon through Go-Karts, IMCA Modifieds, and Limited Late Models. In 2007, when the Crate Late Model class debuted in the Northeast, he was the first to bring one to the region, fielding car number 14 for many well-known drivers. His passion became a family legacy that continues through his grandson, Kyle Murray. After a small cell lung cancer diagnosis in 2011, he passed away in 2012, and his contributions to the sport continue to be honored.

Plant Sale

Explore a wide array of plants for every garden, including native species, annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs, with selections sourced from local greenhouses and the gardens at Audubon. Browse the Garden Treasures tent for gently used tools, pots, décor, and other helpful gear, and stop by the advice table where Volunteer Master Gardeners share tips on choosing and caring for your plants. For the sake of local soils and to limit the spread of the invasive jumping worm, plant trades are not being accepted. Pricing is simple and budget friendly: 4-inch pots are $3, 6 to 8 inch pots are $5, and 10 inch pots are $10. Contributions from many nearby nurseries and garden shops help offer a broad and varied selection.

Women's Pampering Event @ Marvins House w/ Wine Tour

Set aside a restorative day at The Marvin Community House with a women-centered experience that blends do-it-yourself pampering, mimosa crafting, charcuterie, local vendor pop-ups, and a private wine tour. Expect gentle, hands-on self care moments, guidance from a licensed esthetician on building the right skin care routine, a brief wellness talk, and light bites designed to help you unwind and recharge. After the pampering portion, the group heads out for a private tour through Western New York’s Lake Erie Wine Country. Three carefully chosen wineries are on the itinerary, each offering tasting flights and a relaxed setting, with time to explore, take photos, and connect with fellow attendees. Specific winery stops will be announced soon. Attendance is intentionally limited to keep the atmosphere personal. There are 20 spots for the combined pampering and wine tour option, and 10 spots for a pampering-only option. The setting adds meaningful context. Built in 1898 by Elizabeth Warner Marvin and Robert Marvin, The Marvin House was envisioned as a place where women could gather, learn, and grow. Active in literary, musical, educational, and historical circles, Elizabeth Marvin willed her home to become a meeting place devoted to women’s moral and intellectual growth. That vision came to life in 1951 when hundreds of local women became the first charter members of what is now the Elizabeth Warner Marvin Community House. Today it remains a warm and elegant venue for women’s gatherings, making it a fitting home for this day of relaxation and wellness.

Sensory Support for Parents & Their Child

This free, three-part learning series with Julie Matthews, OTR/L is designed for parents and their child, focusing on understanding sensory processing and practical support at home. Many children who process sensory input differently can find daily life overwhelming, so these sessions explain how the nervous system works and offer tools you can use right away. The first session broadens the idea of the senses to include balance, body awareness, and internal signals. The second centers on movement and regulation, showing how specific types of motion can soothe, organize, or energize your child throughout the day. The final session turns insight into action with realistic ways to shape routines and environments that build regulation and confidence at home. If your child experiences intense reactions, shutdowns, or sensory overload, this series offers clear guidance and confidence-building strategies. Children add to a Sensory Support bag each week and bring it home after the third session. Registration is required, and you can register by phone or in person.

Brix 4 Kix Fundraiser & Challenge

At Tim Hortons in Jamestown, a purpose-driven fundraiser centers on a demanding cycling challenge designed to put shoes on kids’ feet. Brad is taking on a ride from Jamestown, NY to Orlando, FL in 5 to 6 days, covering more than 1,200 miles to raise awareness and funds so children across the country can have proper footwear. The effort highlights a pressing need, noting that 65% of American children lack adequate shoes for school, for play, and for dignity. Support can include sponsoring a mile, making a donation, contributing new or gently used kids’ shoes, and helping spread the word. Limited edition Brix 4 Kix merchandise is part of the campaign. Progress updates will be shared on the website and on social media, allowing supporters to follow the journey as each mile brings more children closer to the shoes they need.

The Art of Steven Swank

The Art of Steven Swank traces a personal path where drive and constraint shape the making of each piece, with every obstacle prompting fresh insight and growth. The show gathers several strands of his practice. Twigsticks act like sculpted line work in space, casting wall shadows that read as flat drawings and marking a recent exploration of dimensionality. Photo collages, long rooted in the studio, guide the viewer’s gaze through carefully balanced compositions. Playful, small environments built from found materials bring a lighter note. Newly created paintings appear alongside these works. Poetry runs throughout as metaphor, an enduring companion to the creative process.

Rick Briggs Memorial - World of Outlaw Late Models Powered by Dave Warren Golf Carts & Powersports

At Stateline Speedway, the Rick Briggs Memorial brings the World of Outlaws Late Model Series back to the clay for a headline night powered by Dave Warren Golf Carts & Powersports. It has been three years since the tour last thundered around this track, and the return signals a major moment for the facility. The feature pays $15,000 to win and $1,200 to start, and it marks the eighth World of Outlaws Late Model event at Stateline since the series first visited in 2005. Seven previous races produced seven different winners, including John Blankenship, Dick Barton, Shane Clanton, Brandon Sheppard, Max Blair, Dave Hess Jr., and Nick Hoffman, a record that underscores how competitive and unpredictable this place can be. The night serves as a tribute to Rick Briggs and a showcase for elite dirt late model talent. Championship level drivers and respected regional standouts are part of the roster, with names such as Chub Frank and Boom Briggs in the mix, and Tim McCreadie piloting the famed Briggs Transport #9, a combination that blends national prestige with deep local meaning. Stateline has a reputation for elevating local Super Late Model racers who know every line and every quirk of the surface, and history includes moments like all time track winner Dick Barton turning back the Outlaws. On race night, national contenders will not only battle each other, they will also square off with hometown experts eager to defend their turf. Beyond the headliner, the program also features UMP Modifieds racing for $2,000 to win and Pro Stocks, creating a full card worthy of a national stage. Fans can explore the World of Outlaws Fan Zone with official merchandise, team gear, sponsor activations, and interactive displays that bring them closer to the drivers and teams. Stateline Smokehouse BBQ will be on site with smoked brisket, pulled pork, and smoked wings.

The work is open to the public during regular library hours, and the pieces are available for purchase. Guided by a naturalist’s eye developed through her photography, Maggio focuses on the life cycles of plants and animals, studies ecosystems, and considers how human activity harms the environment. Her pictures are created with intention and purpose beyond the surface, encouraging careful looking and more respectful interaction with nature. She is also developing an art book, Finding Peace in Times like These, that combines nature photography with her own poetry to encourage calm and reflection.

Modified Mafia Tour + Super Late Models and more...

Stateline Speedway hosts a $4,000-to-win Modified Mafia Tour showdown that spotlights open-wheel action and a full slate of support divisions. The tour returns following a dramatic 2025 visit that drew 37 UMP Dirt Modifieds, where Michael McGee captured the $4,000 top prize, David Hess led past halfway before a flat tire sent him to the rear and he charged back to third, and Todd Neiheiser, Michael Altobelli, and Chris Arnold completed the top five. Building on that momentum, this edition brings national Modified Mafia talent together with Stateline’s own Outlaw Modified competitors. Before engines come to life, an autograph session on the front stretch offers a chance to meet drivers and snap photos with touring standouts alongside local favorites. The program features the Modified Mafia main event paying $4,000 to the winner, plus Super Late Models, RUSH Late Models, RUSH Stock Cars, and Challengers. Overnight parking is available all weekend for RVs, camping trailers, and tents.
