MJGA Summer Junior League

The MJGA Summer Junior League returns for its third year at Jack Hoeven Wee Links, uniting four local programs in one league: Souris Valley Golf Course, Beowulf Club, Jack Hoeven Wee Links, and Vardon Golf Club. Each course fields a team of eight, and players are paired into twosomes for weekly scrambles against a pair from another course. Matches use match play scoring with three points available across nine holes, organized as a series of three-hole segments. All regular season play takes place at Wee Links over six weeks, followed by a two-round playoff tournament. Divisions are offered for ages 5 to 10 and 11 to 15. Consistent attendance is important because league nights function like game day, and notifying the league in advance of an absence helps avoid disruptions. If a roster fills, players may be reassigned to another team to keep competition balanced. The cost is $50 per child and includes a team jersey, a bag tag, and green fees. Girls compete on Wednesdays and boys compete on Thursdays.

Nature’s Nook Summer Art Labs: A 6-Week Creative Series

Nature’s Nook Summer Art Labs offers a six week creative series for ages 7 to 12, held three mornings each week in a small group studio setting at Minot Congregational United Church of Christ. Designed for curious young makers, the program emphasizes hands-on exploration, experimentation, and imaginative process in a working art studio environment. Families may enroll one week at a time or for the full series, and enrollment is limited to support individual attention. Each week spotlights a new focus. Young artists will dive into painting with acrylics, layering, and inventive tools. They will explore sculpture through clay, cardboard, and mixed materials. Fiber sessions introduce weaving, simple stitching, and playful texture work. A nature and mixed media segment features botanical printing, collage, and creative techniques inspired by the outdoors. An inventor week centers on open-ended maker challenges and imaginative builds. The storytelling week invites participants to craft miniature worlds, illustrated scenes, shadow boxes, and narrative art. Early bird registration is $320 for all six weeks with a $75 savings, regular tuition is $395 for all six weeks with a $55 savings, and individual weeks are $75. Payment plans are available, and most supplies are included. Please send a snack and drink, and dress for art making. This enrichment studio is best for children who enjoy creating, following instruction, and working respectfully with peers. Because projects develop over multiple days, consistent attendance is encouraged. For safety, an adult must come inside to sign participants in and out each day. This is a studio-based learning experience rather than childcare, so children should be ready to participate independently in a structured, cooperative environment.

Death by Design

At MSU Summer Theatre, Death by Design, directed by Joey Fields, transports audiences to 1930s England, where a playwright and his actress wife retreat to their country estate after a calamitous premiere. Their plans for peace are upended by a series of unannounced visitors, and when a murder rocks the house, everyone falls under suspicion. Influenced by the wit of Noël Coward and the mystery of Agatha Christie, this comic whodunit blends sharp humor with suspense and keeps the puzzle unfolding to the very end. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, high school students, active military, and MSU faculty, staff, and summer school students with a current MSU ID, $10 for children 12 and under, and $30 for deluxe seating in Row T and on the Deck, which includes access to the Hook & Ladder Wine Bar. The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society - July Book Club

A monthly book club at Mythic Emporium focuses on The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society by C. M. Waggoner. Copies for the club are discounted 15 percent through the meeting date. The conversation explores a mystery with a supernatural twist. Librarian Sherry Pinkwhistle keeps encountering bodies and solving cases in her quiet village, but the rising number of deaths begins to feel unnatural. After someone close to her is killed and her cat, Lord Thomas Crowell, seems to be overtaken by an ancient presence, she seeks help from the town's new priest and a circle of friends who call themselves the Demon Hunting Society. Together they work to uncover the killer and cast out the demon, blending cozy sleuthing with monster-fighting energy reminiscent of Murder, She Wrote and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Auditions for Come From Away

Auditions are being held for the musical Come From Away, which tells the true story of how the community of Gander, Newfoundland, welcomed thousands of unexpected visitors after 38 planes were diverted there, overcoming language barriers with music, hospitality, and a sense of shared humanity. Roles are available for six male and six female actors of any ethnicity. All performers portray multiple characters, and many speak in several languages. Auditions are open to anyone age 18 or older who is out of high school. Participants should prepare a brief song in the style of the show. Be ready to sing a cappella or use a personal media player for accompaniment, as no piano or speaker will be provided. Suitable choices include selections from modern or contemporary musicals, Disney, rock or pop standards, and Irish or other folk music. Each auditioner will sing privately for the director and musical director, then read short passages from the script. Other members of the creative team may be present during the singing. After all singing is complete, everyone will gather in the theatre for cold readings from several sections of the script. Alternate audition arrangements can be made in advance with the director by email or through social media.
