Prenatal Yoga Class

This prenatal yoga class invites expectant mothers to connect with body, breath, and baby in a calm, supportive setting. Instruction is led by Anna Oprea, a certified prenatal and vinyasa yoga teacher. The session is free and open to all stages of pregnancy, and no prior yoga experience is required. Mats and props are available, or you may bring your own. If you have a high risk pregnancy, please seek approval from your prenatal care provider before participating. Dare County Schools K-12 Spring Art Exhibition

Artwork by students from kindergarten through 12th grade across Dare County is on view in the Gallery and Meeting Room inside the Administrative building at Roanoke Island Festival Park. This annual showcase welcomes the public to explore a vibrant range of creative work from local schools. Admission is free, and all parts of the exhibition are open to everyone. A Meet the Artist gathering and a closing reception are also planned.

Emory Stafford Memorial Pro-Am

Professionals and amateurs are welcome to participate in this event. The entry fee is $135 per person, and amenities include greens fees, cart fees, prizes, awards, and lunch. The format is one best ball gross plus one best ball net team competition, and professional 18 hole stroke play. Three amateurs are needed per team.

KDH Storytime for ages 0-5 years old

At Kill Devil Hills Library, this family storytime welcomes children from birth to age five along with their caregivers. It features read-alouds, songs, rhymes, movement, and lots of playful activities. The interactive format helps build early literacy skills while encouraging shared time together.

KDH Library Scribblers' Society

Adults who write can connect with the KDH Library Scribblers' Society at Kill Devil Hills Library for a one hour session of creative company, conversation, and inspiration. The club meets monthly and encourages participants to bring a notebook, ideas, and a favorite pen. It is a chance to share progress and celebrate writing wins while spending focused time on the page.

Advanced Line Dance Class at Virginia Tillett Community College

Build on your line dancing foundation in a class crafted for dancers who have already mastered beginner and high beginner routines. Expect a quicker pace and instruction that assumes familiarity with common steps and terms, including grapevine, coaster step, and shuffle step. The dances planned for each class are shared in advance. A $5 suggested donation applies.

Trivia Tuesdays

An evening of trivia and friendly competition at Sandtrap Tavern. Entry is free, with prizes for the three highest scoring teams. Hosting alternates by season, with AmiChill leading in summer and Greg Smrdel during the off season.

Flowga - Yoga and Hula Hoop Workshop

A 60 minute class that blends yoga and hoop flow. It begins with 25 minutes of pranayama and vinyasa to warm up for the flow, then continues with rotating workshop segments that may cover chest rolls, throwing elbows, ghosting, isolations, or hoop choreography. Some sessions also include time to free flow and dance. No prior hoop experience is required, and it welcomes anyone who wants to move, have fun, and groove.

OBX Soundbites: music bingo & trivia at Red Drum Grill & Taphouse

At Red Drum Grill & Taphouse, music bingo teams up with trivia in a game where each bingo square lists a song title or artist. Themes include 70s disco, 80s movie soundtracks, and old school hip hop. A DJ plays brief clips, and players mark their cards by naming the track or performer. The first to complete a bingo earns bragging rights and prizes. This event is free.

The Brothers Comatose

The Brothers Comatose bring their rootsy, high-energy bluegrass to Roanoke Island Festival Park, weaving Americana and folk influences into a modern sound. Formed in 2008 by brothers Ben and Alex Morrison and based in San Francisco, the band is known for close harmonies, standout string work, and a foot-tapping, back-porch feel. Their songwriting leans into stories of love, loss, adventure, and everyday life while keeping the groove upbeat. In 2024, mandolinist and vocalist Addie Levy joined the lineup, deepening the harmonies and adding fresh dimension to the music. On stage, they pair skilled musicianship with an engaging presence for a lively, memorable show.

Patients at Outer Banks Health have access to MyChart, a free online patient portal. This informative pop-up provides one-on-one support from the MyChart Digital Literacy Team, including troubleshooting MyChart issues, assistance with setting up or activating an account, and an overview of features and tools that can help manage care locally and with specialists.

Spring Nature on the Boardwalk

Explore the Town of Duck soundside boardwalk on a guided walk focused on wildlife and native plants, led by an educator from the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island. Four spring outings are planned for participants ages 9 and older. Each walk begins at Town Hall, travels through the maritime forest, and continues onto the boardwalk, totaling about a mile on foot. Wellness and A1C Screenings

Outer Banks Health offers free wellness checks that include blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol, blood sugar, and body mass index, along with health coaching to review results. A1C testing is also available and reflects average blood glucose over the previous three months. Appointments are encouraged and will be seen first, and walk-ins may be accommodated if openings are available. All screenings take place on the Outer Banks Health Coach vehicle in the parking lot. Line Dancing

Line dancing instruction takes place at the Thomas A. Baum Senior Center. This one hour class is taught by instructor Renee Froelke, who grew up in Roanoke, Virginia and developed a passion for tap, jazz, and ballet while dancing on her high school team. She continued to dance afterward and shares that background in the class.

KDDB New Skater Night

Whether you are just getting started on skates or interested in roller derby, the Kill Devil Derby Brigade presents New Skater Night, an enjoyable and welcoming introduction to skating. This beginner-friendly gathering creates a comfortable space for newcomers and the derby-curious to give it a try and build confidence.

Improvement Through Movement

Led by instructor Lisa Minerich, this 45-minute class at the Thomas A. Baum Senior Center focuses on guided movement to enhance range of motion, flexibility, balance, posture, and everyday function while encouraging a boost in positive energy.

Help & Hope with Amy Denson & the Outer Banks Cancer Center

Amy Denson, Youth and Young Adult Pastor at Duck Church, First Flight Middle School track coach, and author, leads a heartfelt book talk focused on her experience with breast cancer, from diagnosis and loss to recovery. Drawing from her book Nowhere to Run, she shares brief, reflective stories paired with practical guidance that offers encouragement during difficult seasons. The conversation centers on resilience, coping, and personal growth, and encourages reflection on how communities face hardship together. Dr. Shelton of the Outer Banks Cancer Center contributes to the discussion with information about local treatment resources and support services available throughout the Outer Banks, helping individuals and families feel informed and supported. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Yoga with a Dog

Experience a vinyasa yoga session alongside Aero, a canine companion who helps set the tone. The format is flexible and responds to the group, shifting from gentle to more energetic as it feels right. In addition to a core vinyasa flow, the practice may weave in pranayama, kundalini elements, functional mobility, and soothing yoga nidra, all anchored in a traditional sequence. Summerton, Director of Team Member Health & Well-Being at ECU Health, will be the guest speaker, discussing key takeaways and practical applications for managing BALANCE, one of the ThriveOBX pillars of well-being. "Run for the Roses" Cocktail Party

This Run for the Roses themed cocktail party at Duck Woods Country Club features live music from Kevin Stroud and friends, food and cocktail specials, and a Derby Hat Contest. Flower Moon Celebration

Celebrate the Flower Moon with an evening focused on nurturing mind, body, and spirit while honoring the divine feminine. Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge Bird Walk

Enjoy a free bird walk at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge and discover why it is a hotspot for avian life, with nearly 400 species residing here or stopping over during migration. This is a relaxed stroll beside North Pond that welcomes both newcomers to birding and experienced watchers. Participants are encouraged to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, and a field guide, and there will be a limited supply of binoculars and guides available to borrow. These walks are offered year-round, pausing only during the Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival in October and December.

Aaron Canipe Photography Exhibit

The Vault Gallery presents the most extensive showcase yet of Aaron Canipe's original photography, centered on his series South of Heaven. Created primarily across North Carolina over several years, this body of work reflects on faith, doubt, and a fading sense of innocence within a moody southern landscape. Blending wry humor with a hint of disillusion, the images explore unease and curiosity about the world, prompting more existential and dreamlike questions than definitive answers. This marks the first public presentation of the project. An opening reception offers a chance to meet the artist and view the work, coinciding with downtown Manteo's First Friday festivities, and admission is free and open to all. The exhibition will be on view in the Vault Gallery.

A festive Kentucky Derby celebration unfolds in the Pioneer Theater Garden with an evening of food, games, and style. 'Greater Tuna' - Auditions

Auditions are being held for Greater Tuna, a fast-paced stage comedy set in the tiny town of Tuna, Texas. Two performers portray dozens of offbeat locals, from meddling neighbors to quirky radio DJs and civic figures, turning small-town life into a whirlwind of sharp humor and heart. Long noted as one of the most produced plays in America, it remains a favorite for its rapid character switches and witty take on rural life. Casting is seeking 2 to 4 strong character actors for a summer commitment at Theatre of Dare with evening involvement each week.

2026 SS Spring Community Yard Sale

Admission is free for the 12th annual spring community yard sale in Southern Shores, set up in the parking lot at The Marketplace Shopping Center off Route 158 across the bypass from Walmart. More than 30 families will offer a wide range of gently used items including bicycles, fishing rods, children’s toys, furniture, collectibles, home decor, bedding, clothing, jewelry, live plants, and more. Families with children are welcome, and leashed pets may attend. Please bring cash, and expect plenty of parking. Only Southern Shores residents may participate as sellers, and advance registration is required to sell. A rain date is planned.

Coastal Gardening Festival

At the Baum Center, the 22nd annual Coastal Gardening Festival fills the grounds with plant sales, a bake sale, educational opportunities, and activities for children. Dare Extension Master Gardeners have raised more than 1,500 plants for purchase, grown locally on the Outer Banks to suit coastal conditions. The selection includes native species, houseplants, vegetables, shrubs, and trees. The festival also features more than 40 artisan, plant, and non-profit vendors. A raffle offers a $500 grand prize along with additional items. Gardening questions are welcomed at the Ask a Master Gardener tent, and the Education tent spotlights plants that thrive on the Outer Banks as well as other resilient coastal choices. Visitors are welcome to stroll through the Arboretum, which the Dare Extension Master Gardeners help maintain. Admission is free, and the event takes place rain or shine. Presented in part by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau.

29th Annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show

The 29th Annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show honors Mollie Fearing, a founding member of Dare Arts and the organization’s first president, with a showcase of diverse and lively artwork. The exhibition opens at the Dare Arts Gallery in downtown Manteo with a free public reception, then continues on view in the Dare Arts Courtroom Gallery during regular gallery hours. Artist Carolina Coto serves as this year’s judge. Born in San José, Costa Rica, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art with a focus on painting from the University of Costa Rica and has worked as a full-time artist on the Outer Banks since 2011. Her work draws inspiration from the local coastal landscape, the rhythm of life by the sea, travels, and the vivid colors and natural beauty of Costa Rica. Dare Arts has issued a call for entries, with a prospectus and drop-off scheduling available online. Businesses interested in sponsoring the awards can contact Dare Arts. The show was founded and is sponsored annually by Mollie A. Fearing & Associates, with additional support from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Dare Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that advances the arts in Dare County through advocacy, enrichment, and opportunity.

Sip & Snip at the Historic Brinkley House

This fundraiser at the Historic Brinkley House supports the Community Care Clinic of Dare. Attendees can enjoy appetizers with wine and beer, take a tour of the house, and hear a keynote talk from an author and historian. Flowers take center stage throughout, with blooms featured in abundance.

DND: The Silvan Empire

Kitty Hawk Elementary Kindergarten Kick-Off 2026

At Kitty Hawk Elementary School, families of rising kindergarten students can get ready for the upcoming school year by completing enrollment steps, touring a kindergarten classroom, and learning what to expect. Staff will share details about school meals, bus transportation, the After School Enrichment Program, and the Dual Language Immersion option. There will be opportunities to meet school personnel and ask questions. Families are encouraged to complete their child's online registration in advance so remaining items can be finalized during the in-person event.

Family & Friends CPR

Learn essential CPR skills in a Family & Friends class offered by Outer Banks Health and led by Becca Eilert, RN, who is trained through the American Heart Association. Participants will be guided through adult Hands-Only CPR, adult CPR with breaths, use of an AED for adults, and how to respond to choking in mild and severe situations. The Vault Gallery presents the largest showcase to date of Aaron Canipe’s original photography. Centered on South of Heaven, a series created mainly in North Carolina over several years, the exhibition explores faith, doubt, and a fragile sense of innocence set against evocative Southern backdrops. Blending dark wit with moments of disillusion, the images trace a story of unease and curiosity, inviting more existential and surreal questions than answers. This is the first time this body of work will be presented in a public venue. An opening reception offers a chance to meet the artist and view the photographs. The reception coincides with downtown Manteo’s First Friday festivities and is free and open to the public. South of Heaven will be on view in the Vault Gallery.

29th Annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show

Dare Arts has issued a call for entry for the 29th Annual Mollie Fearing Memorial Art Show, a juried exhibition honoring the legacy of Mollie Fearing, a founding member and the organization’s first president. Known for a lively and eclectic mix of artwork, the show will be judged by Carolina Coto, an artist from San José, Costa Rica with a fine arts background focused on painting. Her practice draws inspiration from Outer Banks landscapes, the rhythms of coastal life, travel, and the vivid colors and natural beauty of Costa Rica. Artists can review the prospectus and register online to reserve a drop-off slot for their work. An opening reception is free and open to the public, and the exhibition remains on view in the Dare Arts Courtroom Gallery during normal gallery hours. Businesses may inquire about sponsorship opportunities for the show’s awards. The show is founded and sponsored annually by Mollie A. Fearing & Associates and is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Bluegrass Island Nights spotlights Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper at Roanoke Island Festival Park with a performance that celebrates bluegrass roots while embracing bold, imaginative playing. Cleveland’s fiddle leads the charge, shaped by a lifelong fascination with “Orange Blossom Special,” where trainlike sounds, crisp rhythmic bowing, and spontaneous variations fuel the momentum. Raised in Henryville, Indiana, he grew up around old-time and bluegrass at local jams and festivals. His grandparents hosted regular gatherings at the American Legion, and he began on fiddle at age four. At the Kentucky School for the Blind in Louisville he studied violin through the Suzuki method, refining classical technique at school and fiddling at home. Trips to Bill Monroe’s festival in Bean Blossom put him near the genre’s giants, and at nine he performed with Monroe. By twelve, music historian Dave Samuelson was curating Braille-labeled tapes that guided his listening, and in 1993 he played the International Bluegrass Music Association awards show with the Bluegrass Youth All-Stars. After high school he turned professional with Jeff White, then Dale Ann Bradley and Rhonda Vincent. In 2006 he formed Flamekeeper, a band honored seven times as the IBMA Instrumental Group of the Year, featuring Josh Richards, Nathan Livers, Jasiah Shrode, and Chris Douglas. He has collaborated widely with bluegrass greats and stays connected to his Southern Indiana community when off the road. His accolades include 12 IBMA Fiddler of the Year awards, induction into the National Fiddler’s Hall of Fame in 2018, a 2018 Grammy nomination for Fiddler’s Dream, a 2019 Grammy win for Tall Fiddler, the 2019 documentary Flamekeeper: The Michael Cleveland Story, recognition as a National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellow in 2022, and a 2024 Grammy nomination for The Lovin’ of the Game.

At Dowdy Park, the 37th Annual Artrageous Kids Art Festival brings families together for hands-on creativity and performances. This free community celebration centers on the Cirque Des Arts theme, inspired by featured performers from Charlotte Cirque & Dance Center of Charlotte, North Carolina. Activities include interactive art stations, live music, and vocal and dance showcases by local students, along with an artisan market and food vendors. Fork ‘et Me Not, Island Snowball, and The Muse Buzz will offer snacks, cool drinks, and sweet treats on site. Recognized as Dare County’s longest running kids art program, the festival also highlights the Artrageous Youth Scholarship Fund, which awards one scholarship each year to a Dare County high school senior planning to study fine art or the performing arts in college. Support is provided by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau, the Don & Catharine Bryan Cultural Series, and the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Dare Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization dedicated to encouraging the arts in Dare County through advocacy, enrichment, and opportunity.

The 54th Annual Hang Gliding Spectacular brings pilots and fans to Jockeys Ridge State Park for multiple days of flying, friendly contests, and camaraderie. Launched decades ago as the 1st Annual Tactile Meet, it has grown into a tradition that blends competition with shared experiences, and this year also salutes the 50th anniversary of Kitty Hawk Kites. Highlights include check in and setup sessions, an aerotow competition, and pilots meetings that lead into dune competitions at the park. Off the dunes, participants can take in a Hang Gliding Film Festival at Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head, reconnect at an Instructor Alumni Reunion, and celebrate at the Woody Jones Memorial Street Dance. The finale features remarks from Rogallo Hall of Fame inductees in the Jockeys Ridge State Park Community Room, followed by the official induction, the Spectacular awards ceremony, and a Rogallo Dinner catered by Mulligan’s Grille. 2026 Graduation & Promotion Ceremony

Celebrate student milestones at a Homeschool Graduation and Promotion Ceremony at Manteo High School. The program honors high school seniors, eighth graders moving to high school, fifth graders advancing to middle school, and kindergarten graduates. It offers a meaningful moment for families and friends to gather, recognize accomplishments, and encourage students as they begin their next chapter. Participation fees are $50 per senior and $20 per kindergarten, fifth grade, or eighth grade student, covering use of the venue with professional lighting and sound. Graduating seniors receive 20 guest tickets. A parent may share a one to two minute reflection on their homeschool journey. Each senior will be featured with a custom slide highlighting achievements, parents present the diploma, and students may choose the music for their walk. Kindergarten, fifth, and eighth grade students each receive 10 guest tickets. Plans are in the final stages, with guest speakers being invited and additional details to be shared as they are confirmed. This spring series includes four walks designed for participants ages 9 and older. Each outing begins at Town Hall, continues through the maritime forest, and then follows the boardwalk for a total distance of about one mile. There is no cost to participate, but space is limited. Participants will design a personalized decorative shadow box using layers of paper cutouts, fabric remnants, colorful beads, and ribbon, with all supplies provided. Thanks to a Community Benefit Grant from Outer Banks Health, there is no cost for survivors, patients, or caregivers. Village of Nags Head 5k/1 Mile Road Race series presented by Village Realty

An annual road race welcomes walkers, runners and racers to the streets of the Village of West Nags Head, presented by Village Realty. The event features both a 5k and a 1 mile, uses chip timing, and is designed to be family friendly. Participants can park at Outer Banks Mall, and portable restrooms are available on site. Each entry includes a race shirt, a finisher medal, chip timing, and post race snacks and refreshments. There is no advance packet pickup. Check in, packet pickup and late walk up registration take place on race morning at the start line. Awards for the 5k include the top three male and female finishers overall, first male and female masters runners age 40 and over, and first male and female youth age 14 and under. The 1 mile recognizes the overall male and female winners. Entry fees are Adult 45 dollars, Military Discount 40 dollars, and Youth 17 and under 40 dollars. Results will be posted on The OBX Running Company web page and emailed to participants, and free photo downloads, videos and updates are shared on The OBX Running Company Facebook page. This is a family fun event sponsored by Village Realty.

Outer Banks Wright Kite Festival

Celebrate flight at Wright Brothers National Memorial with Kitty Hawk Kites during the Wright Kite Festival, now in its 48th year. Gigantic kites measuring roughly 30 to 100 feet will fill the sky in colorful displays. Visitors can bring their own kites to fly, and complimentary lessons in stunt and power kites are available. Taking place on the historic grounds where Wilbur and Orville achieved the first powered flight in 1903, this experience blends aviation heritage with hands-on fun.
