June OUTPOST – Bozeman – Returning to Center: The Labyrinth Walk for Integration & Healing

In Bozeman, this OUTPOST gathering brings together female veterans for a facilitated labyrinth walk at the Bozeman Public Library Labyrinth, a practice centered on transition, reflection, and healing. For millennia, warrior cultures have turned to labyrinths as a sacred threshold, a place to set down the burdens of battle and move from survival back into full humanity. The walk is an intentional journey that echoes the work of healing. Participants move inward to let go of what is no longer needed, pause at the center to reconnect with their truest self, then follow the path outward with renewed clarity and strength. Through quiet, mindful movement, and simple presence, attendees are invited to release invisible armor and remember who they are beyond service and survival. This experience is not about speed, performance, or choosing the correct route. It focuses on showing up, moving with intention, and creating space for mental, emotional, and spiritual reflection within a supportive circle of sisters in arms. No prior experience is required, only a willingness to walk, reflect, and return to center.

Matt Heckler

The Filling Station hosts a bill featuring Matt Heckler with Shawn Hess. Heckler is a solo multi-instrumentalist whose sound resists easy labels, drawing from the shadowed corners of Appalachian traditions and early bluegrass, then drifting into the lilt of Eastern European folk and the hush of Irish barroom ballads. Years spent on the road with acts like Devil Makes Three, Lost Dog Street Band, and Flogging Molly shaped his live fire, and a later pause led him to build Blood, Water, Coal at home, layering fiddle, banjo, and guitar while keeping the grit of the stage. Jeff Loops of Lost Dog Street Band added upright bass and harmonies. That release followed After The Flood and arrived alongside The Magnolia Sessions, the first entry in a series that became popular, which reached #9 on the Bluegrass Billboard Charts. Blood, Water, Coal debuted at #3, giving him two records on the charts at the same time. He went on to back This Town Is Killin Me with a national run that showcased his rowdy solo set, and he has a new album in progress. Shawn Hess rounds out the night with songs rooted in classic western and folk traditions, carried by a modern ear for storytelling and rhyme, a voice that feels pulled from a western noir.

Erik Koskinen

At The Filling Station, Erik Koskinen performs with his full band alongside a solo set from Martha Scanlan. Koskinen is an American songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose music defies neat sub-genre labels while drawing deeply from American roots traditions, giving equal weight to rhythm, tone, lyrics, and intent. His plainspoken, wry storytelling has prompted comparisons to artists like Woody Guthrie and Ry Cooder, and media have praised his authenticity and even named him Minnesota’s top country songwriter. Commentators have noted echoes of Dylan and other classic American figures, yet emphasized that his playing is entirely his own. His catalog favors lean arrangements that carry a Midwestern sense of place, sketch vivid characters, and leave a subtle, haunting resonance. Scanlan appears solo with songs shaped by life and work on a Montana ranch. A ranch hand and folk singer, she created Tongue River Stories to highlight the value of agricultural life and landscape. She grew up in the upper Midwest, attended college in Montana, then returned to Tennessee to play old-time music. After performing at a friend’s wedding on a family ranch in southeast Montana, she moved to the ranch to work there, and she continues to tour the country as a professional folk singer.

Coleman Jennings

Coleman Jennings brings a richly textured voice and a love for classic Western twang, weaving tradition with a sound that is distinctly his own. The Texas-born Big Loud/Mercury singer and songwriter draws on influences that range from John Denver and Bob Dylan to Townes Van Zandt, The Eagles, Blaze Foley, John Hartford, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. His deep connection to the craft took hold when he immersed himself in guitar during high school, sparked by the unvarnished storytelling of Blaze Foley and an anti-establishment spirit that continues to fuel his writing. His 2024 EP Wildflowers & Tears showcased a modern yet timeless approach and earned nods to icons like Willie Nelson and Townes Van Zandt. Now, working with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb, he highlights that originality with the debut single Head Spinning, capturing a country folk pulse that sets his work apart.

The Droptines

Hailing from Concan, Texas, The Droptines are an alternative country group formed in 2019 by frontman, songwriter, and musician Conner Arthur, known as The King of Concan. They blend a variety of styles and lace their songs with the language of the Texas Hill Country, creating a wide span of genuine, flexible melodies. Arthur’s warm, resonant vocals and detailed lyricism power storytelling that ranges from faith-tinged reflection and unvarnished honesty to big questions about existence, where literary flair meets everyday grit. Their catalog shows that breadth, moving from the driving New Girl to the aching As Your Heart Breaks to the lush Raining Where You Are, all delivered with a stage presence that is approachable and captivating. Peers echo that strength, with David Beck highlighting Arthur’s sharp wit, visceral writing, and steady instinct for melody, while William Beckmann points to imagery and emotion that linger long after the music fades. The band’s name nods to its roots. A droptine is a rare antler that curves downward on a whitetail deer, a fitting symbol for the environment and upbringing that shaped the group.

Joshua Ray Walker

Joshua Ray Walker brings his Country and Americana storytelling to Empire Twin Theatre, singing about complicated characters with a rich tenor and a blend of Texas roots and modern emotion. Since his 2019 debut, his path has included national television appearances, multiple performances at the Grand Ole Opry, and over 2,000 shows across the United States and Europe. His sixth studio album, Ain't Dead Yet, marks his most personal work, created around a period of cancer treatment that even included a recording session the day before lung surgery that could have altered his voice. Anchored by pedal steel, fiddle, and his distinctive guitar picking, these songs explore mortality, gratitude, memory, and transformation, meeting uncertainty with clarity, a defiant spirit, and hard-won joy. Across his catalog, he is known for sharp writing, dark humor, deep empathy, and a commitment to telling the truth even when it is uncomfortable.
