A weekly tradition at Ponchos & Lefty’s features pig races on the big screen followed by a meat raffle. Attendees may back a favorite pig or a mystery racer while pull tabs add to the excitement, and as ticket sales grow, additional races are added. Prizes range from $50 to $300 or more, and the event supports BAHA Hockey. Tacos, margaritas, and mayhem set the tone.

Books Burgers and Brews: The List of Suspicious Things

Chapter 10 of Books Burgers & Brews brings readers together at Brainerd Eagles - Aerie 287 for a public book club presented by the Friends of the Brainerd Public Library in partnership with the Eagles Club of Brainerd. This session highlights The List of Suspicious Things by Jennie Godfrey, with conversation focused on the book. Food and beverages can be purchased at the venue. Business After Hours brings the Brainerd Lakes Chamber community together for lively networking hosted by Mobile Tire and Brainerd Dispatch. Expect energetic conversation, appetizers from The Shante including a charcuterie spread and wraps, and a cash bar with refreshing beverages. An informal interview offers an inside look at both hosts, featuring Justin (JT) Medenwaldt, Owner, and Aleisha Gaalswyk Stephens, General Manager and Ad Director, with questions led by Matt Kilian, Chamber President. Attendees can share a brief introduction on the mic, so bringing business cards is encouraged. Door prizes add to the excitement, with offerings such as a $100 gift certificate and a logo Carhart sweatshirt from Mobile Tire, along with a $50 gift certificate to Morey’s Seafood Market. Guests are welcome to contribute a door prize as well, and staying until the end is recommended since winners must be present. Little swimmers take center stage at Rapid River Lodge & Waterpark during a special Toddler Tuesday designed for the youngest guests. Slides are temporarily turned off to create a quieter, more relaxed pool setting that helps toddlers feel comfortable and confident in the water. Caregivers and children can enjoy gentle play in the kiddie pool and an easy float on the lazy river for a calm start to the day.

Explore career opportunities at a free job fair at Confidence Learning Center in East Gull Lake. April 29th - Earring Creations @ Jack Pine Brewery, Baxter

At Jack Pine Brewery in Baxter, this hands-on jewelry workshop welcomes beginners and accessory enthusiasts to design two finished pairs of earrings with step-by-step guidance. Participants will create one beaded, wire-wrapped design and one free-style assembled pair. All materials are provided, so there is nothing to bring besides your creativity. The cost is $38 per guest, and everyone leaves with two completed pairs. An optional floral resin earring add-on is available for an additional $15 with a regular ticket, which brings the total number of pairs made during class to three. The floral resin pair is created at the end of the session. All ticket sales are final. If plans change, tickets are nonrefundable but may be transferred to someone else. If the class is rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances, updates on ticket information will be posted on the event page.

The Grapes of Wrath

John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath takes the stage in Frank Galati’s acclaimed adaptation at Central Lakes College’s Chalberg Theatre. The drama follows the Joad family after they are displaced from their Oklahoma farm during the Dust Bowl, traveling west in search of work, dignity, and a better future. Guided by the steadfast Ma Joad and the determined Tom Joad, they face hunger, loss, and injustice through the harsh years of the Great Depression, and their journey becomes a tribute to perseverance, unity, and the resilience of the human spirit. An ASL interpreted performance is offered, and ASL interpreter services and ADA accommodations are available upon request. Tickets are available for purchase, and a $1 service fee applies to each ticket.

Motocross action takes over Crow Wing County Fair as riders battle for position and the grandstands buzz with fan energy. Admission is $15. The program begins with practice and continues into racing. Racers can register prior to the start.

International Local: Venezuela

Experience an immersive evening centered on the flavors and traditions of Venezuela. The night begins with a passport-style cultural journey, where guests visit four themed stops that highlight regional stories and customs, collecting stamps along the way for a chance at prize drawings. A three-course dinner follows, featuring an appetizer, main entrée, and dessert inspired by Venezuelan cuisine, paired with a signature welcome drink that can be served with or without alcohol. Throughout the event, the artist Fortunato shares insights from her background, travels, and creative work, with her artwork on display for viewing and conversation. A ticket priced at $79 includes the passport experience, the three-course meal, the signature drink, and the feature with Fortunato.

Red Dress Event: MMIR Awareness

An MMIR Awareness Red Dress Event honoring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives. The event includes a Red Dress Exhibit, a community art project, and informational resources, with food offered. It centers on awareness, remembrance, and solidarity.

Small Tire Outlaw Series Race 2 Brainerd Motorsports Park

Brainerd Motorsports Park hosts the second race of the Small Tire Outlaw Series with Ryan Martin and Shawn "Murder Nova" Ellington leading the event. The Outlaw Small Tire class on 28x10.5 tires features a $20,000 winner’s purse. Additional racing includes an Outlaw 5.30 index paying $5,000, 6.0 and 7.0 index classes awarding $2,500, a Daily Driver class for $2,500, and Jr. Dragsters offering $1,000 to the winner with payouts through the semifinals. Friday night is set for testing along with a cash pot in a cash days style format for all classes. Saturday goes straight to a chip draw followed by racing.

Back by popular demand, Plant Bingo returns just in time for Mother’s Day. A $20 packet covers 10 rounds of play. Rounds 1 through 9 feature plant prizes, and the coverall in round 10 awards a Copper Creek gift card. Breakfast is served. The games are hosted by Confidence Learning Center.

The MN JCI Senate Foundation Golf Tournament brings golfers and supporters together at Gravel Pit Golf Course during the MN JCI Senate Annual Meeting weekend. The centerpiece is a two-person scramble that welcomes all skill levels, with proceeds benefiting the MN JCI Senate Foundation and its scholarships for graduating high school seniors. New this year, The Quirky Cup offers a 13-hole putting challenge created for those who prefer a lighter introduction to the game while still taking part in the festivities. The scramble is $60 per person and includes golf, a cart, and lunch. The Quirky Cup is $30 per person and includes lunch. Everyone is welcome, including family and friends.

Discussion will cover epilepsy, SCA7, PPP2CA, autoimmune disorders, and more. This is a family friendly setting where children are welcome. Full Moon Restorative

Spend 75 minutes in a Full Moon Restorative class dedicated to deep rest for your whole body and a quiet, peaceful mind. The practice centers on four to five supported poses intended to cultivate calm, melt away tension, and leave you grounded and clear. Between poses, participants move slowly and gently with the breath to ease each transition. First-time students attend free. Drop-in admission is $25 per person, with class packs available at $75 for five sessions or $130 for ten. Register by marking yourself as going on the event page, and direct any questions to the organizer.

Singles Combo Dart Tournament

A singles dart tournament featuring both 501 and Cricket. A diddle decides either the game or who throws first. The winners bracket plays to three, and the losers bracket plays to two. The buy-in is $10, with board fees paid separately. Singles matches use handicaps. If turnout is high, the format shifts to doubles with handicaps, a $5 bounty is added, and A and B partners are paired by luck of the draw.

2026 ATHENA Awards: Celebrate & Inspire

At Maddens Resort, the ATHENA Awards honor individuals and organizations that advance leadership, mentorship, and opportunities for women and girls in the Brainerd Lakes Area. Hosted by the Brainerd Lakes Chamber and presented by CTC, the program recognizes people who lead with intention, elevate others, and strengthen the community. The 2026 honorees include Jill Casper, recipient of the ATHENA Leadership Award, and Lakes Area Grit & Grace, recipient of the ATHENA Organizational Leadership Award. Traci Costa, President of ATHENA International, delivers a keynote focused on women’s leadership and the ATHENA Principles that guide this global movement. Attendees can expect uplifting stories of service and impact along with opportunities to connect with community leaders and changemakers. The event is open to the public, with both table and single ticket options available.

Wild Mushrooms 101

Wild mushroom expert and author Ariel Bonkoski leads an introductory class at Forestview Middle School focused on the world of fungi. Participants learn safe foraging practices and how to identify mushrooms through clear, step-by-step methods. The session covers foundational mushroom knowledge, approaches to finding and collecting, examples of commonly edible and toxic species, and recommended resources for continued study. Hands-on exploration with real mushrooms is included to reinforce what is discussed. Intended for ages 16 and up. Registration is required for all attendees.

Reverse Raffle $10,000

Brainerd Rotary Foundation’s annual Happy Hour or Two reverse raffle takes place at Cragun’s Pavilion at Legacy. Tickets are $100 and limited to 300. The final ticket drawn secures a $10,000 grand prize, with ten additional $100 prizes. The event includes a cash bar, food, and music. Attendance is not required to be eligible to win.

Super Seafood Raffle

This session is designed to help reduce stress, calm the nervous system, and support energetic balance so you can move into your day feeling more grounded and centered. No experience is necessary, just wear comfortable clothing, zero gravity chairs and blankets are provided.

Pints for a Purpose

At Jack Pine Brewery, Pints for a Purpose highlights the Brainerd Family YMCA. For each pint sold, one dollar supports the Y by funding equipment needs and scholarships for local children and families. YMCA staff will be on site to greet guests and share how this support benefits the community. It offers a simple way to give back as every pour helps the Y.

PSEO Information Night - Brainerd campus

This information night on the Brainerd campus introduces the PSEO program at Central Lakes College, which lets high school students earn college credits without cost to families. The session explains eligibility for students from any Minnesota high school or homeschool program and highlights a supportive, engaging environment that makes participants part of campus life. Attendees will learn how to get started. The gathering takes place in the cafeteria, just inside Door 1.

Graduation Social Dance

Rescheduled and set in the cafeteria at Brainerd High School, this celebration honors the 2026 Indigenous graduates of Brainerd Schools with a catered dinner followed by a social gathering. Dinner is provided by Aunties & Uncles Snack Shack. The program is hosted by Master of Ceremonies Byron Ninham Niigaabigwaneb and features the Brainerd Boys Hand Drum Group with instructors Jeffery Boshey and Jakob Wilson.

Red Sand Project

Central Lakes College hosts its annual Red Sand Project across both campuses in an open house format that welcomes community participation. The effort highlights human rights concerns affecting local communities, the state, and the nation. Participants symbolically pour red sand into sidewalk gaps to honor people who too often slip through the cracks, while accessing information that supports education and awareness. Activities take place at the Brainerd campus near Doors 1 and 24 and at the Staples campus at the main entrance.

Greenhouse & Nursery Grand Opening Weekend

Treeline Acres marks the opening of its nursery and greenhouse with a family-friendly weekend featuring flowers, vegetables, farm animals, and a variety of activities. Each day offers the chance to browse bedding plants, hanging baskets, garden supplies, and more. Thursday programming is to be announced. Friday focuses on Farm Animal Friday, with opportunities to feed goats and chickens, learn about how chickens lay eggs, handle baby chicks, and take an alpaca hike, with additional activities to be confirmed. Saturday centers on Sunny Come Home, offering sunflower selfie spots, sunflower cookies available in the Farm Stand, and a Cyanotype Sun Printing Workshop by Lil Fish Studios. Proceeds from sunflower sales support the Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build. Sunday features Mom is Magnificent with a photo booth and more activities to be announced.

Organic Roots Schoolhouse opens its doors for an open house focused on enrollment for the 2026 to 2027 school year. Families can tour the outdoor learning spaces, explore the nature-centered curriculum and learning materials, and speak with teachers about available programs. Guests will also see how children learn through exploration, creativity, and real-world experiences in nature as well as in the classroom. The upcoming year features several updates, including four enrollment days each week from Monday through Thursday, a lower monthly tuition while adding an extra school day, and new before-school and after-school care options. As a mixed-age forest school community, Organic Roots Schoolhouse supports academic, social, and emotional growth through meaningful experiences outdoors and indoors. Brainerd Fishing Clinic

Young anglers ages 4 to 12 can take part in a free fishing clinic at Lum Park focused on building skills and creating lasting memories outdoors. Knowledgeable mentors lead hands-on learning stations that teach the basics before children head to the water to fish from the shore and the pier. The experience includes instructional sessions, a complimentary lunch, and a goody bag to take home. Friendly contests are organized by age group 4 to 6, 7 to 9, and 10 to 12, with prizes available. Check in is required to be eligible for contest participation, and each child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participants are encouraged to bring a fishing pole if possible, with a limited number available to borrow. All learning stations must be completed before moving on to later activities.

This MN Permit to Carry class provides you with the information needed to stay out of prison and the skills to stay safe. Applicable MN laws are covered in addition to a multi-state approved basic firearms course. Upon completion, you will understand when it is legal to use deadly force to protect yourself, others, and your home. Youll also learn how handguns work and how to operate them safely and efficiently, critical information to survive an attack. This training exceeds the firearm training requirements for concealed weapon permits for several states. The training includes a live-fire shoot. Lecture topics include handgun selection and operation, marksmanship skills, use of deadly force, criminal and civil liability, and the permit application process.

Now in its third year, the Brainerd Everything Outdoor Youth Expo offers a youth-focused celebration of all things outdoors.

Northerner Hockey Camp: Brainerd, MN 2026

At Essentia Health Sports Center, this co-ed, four day day camp welcomes youth hockey players for a focused and fun experience. Coaches prioritize core fundamentals such as skating, shooting, passing, and game strategy. Each day includes two on-ice sessions, the first dedicated to individual development like stickhandling, shooting, and skating, and the second centered on team play with game-like situations that build competition and teamwork. Off-ice dryland training targets strength, agility, and overall athleticism, blending off-ice stickhandling and shooting with agility work and competitive activities. Campers also participate in team-building exercises that foster communication and a supportive environment, along with a hockey classroom featuring video breakdowns, strategy discussions, and trivia to strengthen hockey IQ. Participants are grouped by birth year, with groups for 2019 and 2018, 2017 and 2016, and 2015, 2014, and 2013. Lunch is provided each day with an emphasis on supporting local companies. Every camper receives a Northerner Hockey Camp T-shirt and jersey, and additional apparel will be available for purchase in the arena lobby.

Brainerd Solar 101

Explore how solar can work for a home or small business at an introductory presentation led by Solar United Neighbors. Learn how the technology operates, what the economics look like, and the financing options to consider. The session also explains the local Solar Co-op, which is free to join and does not require anyone to purchase panels. Members receive a review of their roof’s suitability, personalized help answering questions, and support evaluating installer proposals, selecting a contractor, and understanding installation expectations. As a nonprofit, Solar United Neighbors remains neutral about installers and vendors. Attendees are expected to participate as individuals and not advertise services or solicit sales. Those who do so may be removed, and repeated violations can result in a ban from future SUN events. After signing up, the organizer may contact participants by email or phone with updates and other ways to get involved, and opting out is available at any time.

Tech Recycling Event

In collaboration with other local credit unions known as Financial Fraud Fighters, this free, rain-or-shine drop-off gives members a secure way to recycle tech devices that may hold personal information. Phones, computers, tablets, and other personal devices are welcome, and everything collected will be donated to PCs for People for responsible recycling. 13th Annual Paul Bunyan Classic Presented By Barrett Petfood

At Brainerd International Raceway, the 13th Annual Paul Bunyan Classic presented by Barrett Petfoods offers the final opportunity to qualify for the 2026 Midwest Factory Finishes Race of Champions. Friday features an S/SS Shootout presented by Res Tech Systems with $2,000 to the winner and $1,000 to the runner-up, and it does not include a ROC qualifier or BIR points. The S/SS Main Event runs Saturday and Sunday, awarding $2,000 to the winner and $1,000 to the runner-up and serving as a ROC qualifier.

50/50 Split the pot night @ The Races

North Central Speedway hosts a split-the-pot 50/50 fundraiser alongside an evening of racing and community spirit. Half of the proceeds go to the winning ticket holder, and half support families living with ALS. During intermission, drivers bring their cars onto the track for close-up visits, photos, and autographs, giving fans a chance to meet the people behind the wheel and get a better look at the machines they cheer for. Raffle tickets are available until intermission, the winning number is announced at intermission, and the winner must be present to claim the prize.

His Iowa upbringing and years immersed in Minneapolis alt rock circles shape both the instrumentals and vocals, favoring grit and sincerity. His path runs from college open mics to writing for and playing in bands that frequented well known alternative clubs in Uptown, Downtown and the West Bank of Minneapolis, and later to solo appearances in Minnesota’s north woods. Along the way he has worked with accomplished players and shared bills with Corey Medina & Brothers, Charlie Parr, Kelley Smith, The Jimmys, the Cactus Blossoms, Ronnie Lane of Small Faces, the Uppity Blues Women, the Jayhawks, Martin Zellar of the Gear Daddies, the Phones and Run Westy Run.
