Everybody Scream Horror Book Club: The Mean Ones by Tatiana Schlote-Bonne

The Everybody Scream Horror Book Club, led by Markie Spears, explores The Mean Ones by Tatiana Schlote-Bonne, a tense psychological horror novel steeped in trauma, survival, and the unsettling question of what can be trusted. The story centers on Sadie, who has worked hard to build an ordinary life after surviving brutal murders seventeen years earlier. A trip to a cabin shakes that fragile normal, fears resurface, visions intensify, something seems to be watching in the dark, and the voice in her head becomes increasingly insistent. Discussion will dig into eerie woods atmosphere, psychological unraveling, and whether the terror is external or living in the mind, with space for theories, reactions, and all the spirited energy of a horror-focused book club. 37th Louisiana Senior Amateur Championship

Hosted at Lake Charles Country Club in Lake Charles, this championship is a 54 hole stroke play competition that crowns the top male senior golfer in Louisiana. The field is limited to the first 156 entries. All competitors play 36 holes, then the Overall Championship is cut to the low 60 and ties for a final 18 holes. In addition to the Overall Championship, there is a Super Senior division for golfers 65 and older and a Legends division for golfers 70 and older. Super Senior and Legends compete over 36 holes from approximately 6,100 yards, while the Overall Championship is contested at approximately 6,600 yards. Any senior 65 or older may elect to compete in the Overall Championship instead, which removes eligibility for the Super Senior and Legends divisions. The Legends division requires a minimum of 10 participants, otherwise those entries are placed into the Super Senior field. Eligibility is open to Louisiana residents who are amateur golfers as defined by the USGA and The R&A, who hold membership in an LGA member club in good standing, are at least 50 years of age, and possess a certified World Handicap System Index of 15.0 or less. Non amateurs are not eligible, and entries may be rejected for reasons including unbecoming conduct. Entry fees are $250 for Overall Championship competitors and $225 for Super Senior and Legends competitors. Fees include cart charges for the practice round and tournament play. Refunds are available if the LGA office is notified in writing before entries close. After entries close, refunds are granted only in the event of injury or illness with a doctor’s statement, and a 20 percent service charge applies to all refunds. Pairings and starting times will be emailed to accepted entrants. Competitors must be neat in appearance and wear appropriate golf attire. No gym shorts, cutoffs, blue jeans or tee shirts are permitted, and shorts must be Bermuda length. Lake Charles Country Club is a spikeless facility and spikeless shoes are required. Practice privileges are extended to participants at the host course, and the LGA covers the cart fee for the practice round. Contact the Lake Charles Golf Shop to schedule. Crystal prizes will be awarded to the winners in the Overall and Super Senior Championships. Gift certificates will be awarded to the top five finishers in the Overall Championship and the top three finishers in the Super Senior Championship. Play is governed by the current Rules of Golf and the LGA Rules of Play Card, and all rulings by the LGA Rules Committee are final. Competitors may purchase discounted Strakaline yardage and green books, and headquarters hotel options are available.

2026 Miss Armed Forces Pageant

The Miss Armed Forces Pageant salutes service with a full day of age-based competitions, from babies to adults, including a veterans-only division. Families will find early divisions for 0 to 11 months, 12 to 23 months, 2 to 3 years, 4 to 5 years and 6 to 7 years in red, white and blue patriotic attire, followed by older groups in long pageant gowns. Titles span Baby, Toddler, Tiny, Petite and Little Miss Armed Forces, then continue with Deb Miss for ages 8 to 9, Young Miss for ages 10 to 11, Junior Miss for ages 12 to 13, Teen Miss for ages 14 to 16, Miss for ages 17 to 23, Ms for ages 21 and up including married, divorced and mothers, and Patriotic Ms for veterans 18 and older. Teen, Miss and Ms divisions include an interview segment in the pageant-provided T-shirt and gray pants, then evening wear on stage. Accessories are welcome, but the T-shirt must remain unchanged. Junior, Teen, Miss, Ms and Patriotic Ms contestants give a short stage introduction with a greeting, name and contestant number. Stage presentation follows a simple T formation, and hair and makeup must be age appropriate. Guest admission is $5 per person, with free entry for veterans. Contestants and visiting queens are not charged. Entry is $75 for baby through junior divisions, with a late fee after the stated deadline, and $90 for Teen, Ms, Miss and Patriotic Ms which includes the interview T-shirt. Photogenic is included in the entry fee; bring one unframed photo up to 8x10 with the contestant’s name and age on the back, and do not send photos by mail. Queens receive custom crowns and monogrammed wraparound banners. Alternates receive certificates, and the Photogenic winner receives a photo frame. Teen, Ms and Miss queens are contracted, agree not to compete for other titles during their reign, and must return to crown their successors. Scholarships are awarded at the end of the reign to Miss ($500) and Teen ($200) when contract terms are met. Contracts are signed immediately after crowning, and if a contract is not signed the first alternate assumes the title. The Miss title has specific eligibility and conduct requirements outlined in the contract, including restrictions on marital status and pregnancy during the reign. All 2026 queens will appear at the Red White Blue and You Celebration, and contracted queens also attend the Patriots Ball, while other queens may choose to be introduced at that event. Rules emphasize courtesy and sportsmanship. Disrespect toward participants, judges or organizers results in disqualification without a refund. Contestants must compete in the division that matches their age on the day of the pageant, and proof of age may be requested. The 2025 royalty may compete if they have moved into the next age division. Scores are not posted, but they may be requested by mail with a stamped, self-addressed envelope submitted with the entry form. In the later groups, a tie is settled with an onstage question. The pageant reserves the right to refuse entries. No checks are accepted, and refunds or transfers are not available. Payments may be made by cash, Zelle, Cash App or Venmo, and app payments should include the contestant’s name and age. Royalty are expected to remain properly dressed and well groomed during appearances, and there is no smoking or alcohol consumption during the reign. A behavior agreement is signed immediately following the event. Photos taken during the pageant or at the Red White Blue and You Celebration may be used by the committee.
