An Evening with Emerson, Lake, and Palmer

An immersive concert presentation reunites Emerson, Lake and Palmer through a seamless mix of archival performance and live musicianship. Developed by Carl Palmer and his team with the cooperation of the estates of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake, it is not presented as a tribute act. Archival film from ELP’s sold-out 1992 Royal Albert Hall show features Emerson and Lake, while Palmer performs on stage with his ELP Legacy bandmates Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick. The on-screen and on-stage performances are precisely synchronized so the ensemble plays together as one for a full ELP concert experience. Formed in London in 1970, ELP brought together keyboardist Keith Emerson of the Nice, Greg Lake of King Crimson on vocals, bass, and guitar, and Carl Palmer of Atomic Rooster on drums and percussion. The group earned nine RIAA gold albums in the United States and sold an estimated 48 million records worldwide. Their sound blends classical influences with jazz and symphonic rock, often highlighted by Emerson’s Hammond organ, Moog synthesizer, and piano, with several acoustic songs by Lake. A limited VIP experience includes a Q&A, one-on-one photo opportunities, and early access to autographed merchandise, limited to 50 guests. Tickets start at $70, with a $50 VIP add-on available.

An Evening with Emerson, Lake & Palmer

Presented by Waggoner Engineering at Manship Theatre at Shaw Center for the Arts, this production brings Emerson, Lake & Palmer to the stage through a blend of archival film and live performance. Developed by Carl Palmer and his management with the cooperation of the Keith Emerson and Greg Lake estates, the concert synchronizes footage of Emerson and Lake from the sold out 1992 Royal Albert Hall show with live music from Carl Palmer and his ELP Legacy band, Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick. The result is a complete ELP concert performed in sync, presented as a faithful rendering of the band’s work rather than a traditional tribute. Keith Emerson and Greg Lake passed away in 2016, and this format reunites their performances with Palmer on stage. Formed in London in 1970, Emerson, Lake & Palmer became one of the era’s most successful progressive rock groups, earning nine RIAA gold albums in the United States and an estimated 48 million records sold worldwide. Their music fused adaptations of classical pieces with jazz and symphonic rock, with Emerson’s Hammond organ, Moog synthesizer, and piano at the forefront, Lake contributing vocals, bass, guitar, and acoustic songs, and Palmer on drums and percussion. A limited pre-show VIP option is available and includes a Q&A with Carl Palmer, Paul Bielatowicz, and Simon Fitzpatrick, an individual photo with Carl and the band, and access to purchase autographed merchandise. VIP participants must also hold a ticket to the main show, capacity is limited to 50, and the VIP takes place one hour before scheduled doors.

Baton Rouge: The Road to Statehood

Hosted at the Old Governor’s Mansion, this evening program honors Louisiana Statehood Day with a deep look at Baton Rouge’s journey to statehood. Before 1812, the area served as a meeting ground for Indigenous communities, a colonial foothold for the French, Spanish, and British, and for a time an independent republic. The talk explores how its perch on the Mississippi River bluff shaped that evolution, guiding a shift from fortified outpost to a modern center of politics, culture, and commerce. Dr. Tasha Whitton, Professor of English and Humanities at BRCC, leads the presentation, and a reception will follow the program.

2026 Louisiana’s Strongest Man/Woman

Louisiana’s Strongest Man/ Woman returns as a United States Strongman Nationals qualifier hosted by The Atlas Strength Shop. A current USS membership is required for all competitors, and parking will be ample. Weigh-ins take place at the Atlas Strength Shop, with a day-of option available, and a rules meeting is held before competition begins. Published weights on the matrix may be adjusted, and organizers welcome input to help deliver a smooth show. Copies of the rules are provided at weigh-ins. Five classic strongman challenges are planned. The Max Circus Dumbbell follows Wessel’s rule, allowing up to three attempts within a 60 second window per attempt, with a down command and controlled lowers required. Men will lift on 12 inch dumbbells with 10 pound jumps, and women on 10 inch dumbbells with 5 pound jumps, with special consideration for national record attempts. The 18 inch deadlift also uses Wessel’s rule, again with three attempts in 60 seconds and strict control to the ground. Jumps are 40 pounds for men and 20 pounds for women, Ohio Power Bars with wagon wheels are used, and dropping the bars is not permitted. The sandbag carry to sled drag tasks athletes with carrying two bags in order from lighter to heavier to a point 50 feet away, then dragging the sled back within the time limit, with drops allowed. The Hercules Hold measures pure grip and composure as athletes support the implement for as long as possible, with challenging loads and typical times under a minute. Rounding things out, the five stone over bar series is completed lightest to heaviest within the time cap, split times are recorded, stones must land on the crash pad, and unsafe throws will zero the event. Allowed equipment is specified per event and may include items such as grip shirts, knee and elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, belts including soft belts, chalk, straps, deadlift suits, and tacky where noted.

Chef Anne Milneck leads a hands on exploration of classic South Louisiana cooking at Red Stick Spice Company, highlighting dishes with Cajun influences and Creole flair. Participants chop the holy trinity of onions, celery, and bell peppers, learn about the seafood and spices that define the region’s flavors, and take away techniques for quick weeknight meals or relaxed weekend entertaining. Each $110 registration is for one person, not a couple, and attendees will be paired to work at a shared station. The menu features Creole tomato salad when in season or Sensation Salad, hot shrimp remoulade, corn and pork tasso maque choux, weeknight chicken and pork sausage jambalaya, crawfish etouffee, and gateau di sirop. This hands on session concludes with a full meal, and all students receive a store discount. Anne is the owner and chef of Red Stick Spice Company. She is a graduate of the John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University and serves as an adjunct instructor teaching Spices in the Professional Kitchen. Born and raised in LaPlace, she blends lessons from her mother, grandmother, and aunts with the foundations of culinary school, along with insights gained over 12 years of running the shop. This class is open to participants ages 13 and up. Teenagers must attend with an adult, and both must purchase a seat. There are no refunds. Transfer requests to move a reservation to another class must be received at least seven working days in advance. Requests made after that window cannot be accommodated. You may send another person in your place.

Buck Meek with Kisser at Chelsea’s Live

A newly announced show at Chelsea’s Live features Buck Meek with Kisser. Meek’s fourth solo album, The Mirror, his second release on 4AD, leans into tenderness and vulnerability while approaching the unfamiliar with curiosity. The music invites reflection and prioritizes thoughtful questions over easy conclusions. Raised in Wimberley, Texas, Meek began performing at thirteen as a rhythm guitarist for Memphis bluesman Brandon Gist, keeping a temperamental amp going mid-set, and went on to play everything from Manouche and Romanian waltzes to ragtime, western swing, rock and roll, and his own songs in both traditional venues and unconventional spaces. He moved to Boston to study jazz and found a circle of peers focused on songwriting and house shows, then relocated to New York, where he met Adrianne Lenker. The two traveled the country sharing their music before forming Big Thief.
