Literary Naturalists & Journaling Workshop
At Tippecanoe Battlefield Park, this special 25th anniversary program offers an introduction to nature journaling led by Naturalist Mary Cutler of Tippecanoe County Parks and Recreation. Participants will learn practical ways to observe and record the natural world, while also hearing excerpts from the writings of earlier naturalists whose work grew from careful field notes. After creating personal journals, the group will head to the banks of Burnett’s Creek and nearby woodlands to practice observation and find inspiration. The content is geared toward adults, though school-aged children may participate if they can stay engaged and interested. Capacity is limited to 20 participants and advance registration is required. Indicating interest on Facebook does not reserve a spot. For more information, contact Tippecanoe County Naturalist Mary Cutler at 765-567-2993 or mcutler@tippecanoe.in.gov.
Tippecanoe Battlefield ParkPotato Derby
Transform a potato into a race car at the Potato Derby. The library provides the potatoes, wheels, and axles, and registration is open to all ages. After registering, pick up a kit to build and decorate your racer, then bring your potato back on race day to test its speed on the track. A Potato Pit Stop workspace will be available in the Creativity Lab for anyone who needs a place to decorate. Races will be held in separate heats for kids and families, and for teens and adults. Space is limited and a separate registration is required for each participant. This free program is offered by the West Lafayette Public Library. Free parking is available in the library garage, and WLPL library cards are available at no cost to residents of Tippecanoe County.
