Lovell FHCC Emergency Blood Drive

An emergency blood drive at Lovell FHCC is seeking donors, with a special call for type O while all blood types are appreciated. Walk-in donors are accepted. The location is Building 134, Community Living Center, Room 178 on the main North Chicago hospital campus. Donations are collected by the NMRTC Great Lakes Blood Donor Center to support Operation Epic Fury combat casualty care, and each unit goes directly to Sailors serving with the fleet. Members of the Lovell FHCC community and personnel from Naval Station Great Lakes are encouraged to donate. Launched in 2017, The Comedy Nosh is a live stand-up comedy event in the Chicago suburbs. Taking place at Ariellas Event Space, which is part of Max and Bennys Restaurant Deli Bakery, the show aims to bring a Chicago comedy club experience to the suburbs. The show includes nationally performing stand-up comedians with a headliner. The ticket price includes admittance to the show, coffee, and a sweet table. A cash bar will be available during the show. Queen Bess Centennial Aviation Film Festival

Aviation filmmakers can submit work to an inaugural festival honoring flight and the legacy of Bessie Coleman. Programming spans Tulsa, Oklahoma and Chicago, Illinois, with film screenings, STEM education activities, static displays, historic aircraft and electric planes, drone demonstrations, and speaker panels as part of a weeklong celebration. An official flyover by Ken Rapier, a Tuskegee Airman and president of the Chicago Tuskegee DODO Chapter, is included. The festival offers options to take part in person or online. Partners on the organizing team include AAM Institute, Chicago Southland Chamber, Langston University, Tuskegee DODO Chapter Chicago, Gigi Coleman, Chicago Vertiport, the Bessie Coleman documentary, and AeroStar Avion Institute.

YuGiOh fans can get an early look at the Blazing Dominion core set at Primetime Sportscards & Collectibles. The sneak peek welcomes both players and collectors. Entry is $20 and includes five new booster packs plus a Field Center. A prize-supported YuGiOh tournament will run in the advanced format, so participants who want to compete should bring a YuGiOh deck. Primetime has run more than 1,700 in-store YuGiOh tournaments since 2002, and this event is the store’s 90th Sneak Peek.

A 9 Pin No-Tap handicap tournament takes place at Bowlero Waukegan and is open to all bowlers with no membership required. Competitors bowl three games using no-tap scoring in a beat-the-board format. At least one in five entries will cash, the prize fund is returned in full, and payouts are made the same day. Entry for the handicap event is $55. Optional add-ons include Mega Bucks at $25 on the first entry and a $5 first place pot. With Mega Bucks and the first place pot, first place pays $1,000 based on 60 entries. Promotions include a Gold Members Ticket that provides a $50 entry credit toward a future tournament, and ABT members receive a $5 discount on the entry fee. Side action is available, including a 9 Pin No-Tap 300 scratch game for $20, a best two game handicap option for $20, a seniors option for $20, and a scratch option for $15. Average rules apply. ABT bowlers use their current ABT average with no bonus pins, and new bowlers use the prior year’s composite average converted to a sport average. From December to May, one dollar from each main handicap entry is added to a year-end prize fund. To qualify, bowlers need at least 12 handicap entries from June to November. The singles tournament in June adds money to the fund for those who meet the entry requirement and make the semifinals, with the prize split evenly among semifinalists. A 3 percent credit or debit convenience fee applies. Annual membership is $30, and Gold membership is $250 with a choice of Brunswick brands.

A mostaccioli dinner fundraiser at the Schlader Building offers an unlimited meal that includes pasta, bread, salad, dessert, and a beverage. Entertainment features performances by the Zion Park District Beginner Class, the Elmwood/West Baton & Pom Team, the Halftime Team, and the Juvenile and Senior Show Corps. Rod The Show

Rod the Show recreates the sound and swagger of Rod Stewart in a high-energy tribute led by vocalist Rob Caudill, whose spiky hair, gravelly tone and kinetic stagecraft closely mirror the rock icon. The production features Carmine Appice, Stewart’s drummer from 1976 to 1982 and a co-writer on several hits, along with saxophonist Katja Rieckermann, who spent 14 years in Stewart’s band. In addition to delivering beloved songs, Appice and Rieckermann share behind-the-scenes stories from life on tour. Tickets are available through the Genesee Theatre box office and Ticketmaster. A VIP experience is offered through Ticketmaster that includes access to the band’s soundcheck, a meet and greet with Rob Caudill, Carmine Appice and Katja Rieckermann, a Q and A session, autograph and photo opportunities, a keepsake badge and lanyard signed by the trio, and early access to purchase autographed merchandise. Join volunteers in an effort to improve the Chicago-Calumet River system. Activities will include removing invasive plants and trail building. Volunteers should wear long pants, long sleeves, and boots or shoes that can get dirty. This family-friendly annual cleanup takes place at over 80 sites including city parks, forest preserves, school yards, and businesses along the banks of the Chicago-Calumet River system and its tributaries. Volunteers will pick up trash, and may help with additional stewardship activities like removing invasive plants and trail maintenance. Registration is open until the site reaches capacity. Children eight years old and up are eligible to volunteer with a guardian. Younger family members are welcome to observe provided they are supervised by an adult. Advance registration is requested. Volunteers who register before Friday, May 1, 2026 receive a T-shirt.

Laurie Stein, deputy director and head of curation at the History Center of Lake Forest-Lake Bluff, offers a look at the earliest settlement of northeastern Illinois with an emphasis on Lake County and the communities of Lake Forest and Lake Bluff. The talk considers who the first homesteaders were, what motivated their arrival, and how their efforts set the stage for the towns that followed. It traces the area’s evolution from the 1830s world of hand-hewn log houses and roadside taverns to the platting of Lake Forest in 1861, outlining the move from frontier living to a planned community, and later to the development of elegant estates and a new business district. This program is part of the History Center’s year-long lecture series honoring the 250th anniversary of the United States. Presented in chronological order, the series brings local and regional scholars together to connect community history with the nation’s past, from pre-settlement Indigenous peoples and early European arrival through experiences in the Civil War and World War II, concluding with a capstone community panel titled Shaping the Next 50 Years: A Community Conversation.
