Take part in a hands-on volunteer shift at Northern Illinois Food Bank - South Suburban Center. Wear sneakers or work boots along with long shorts or pants and a t-shirt or sweatshirt. Medical boots are not allowed. For any outdoor grocery distribution assignments, plan clothing for the weather. Fully enclosed, low-heeled shoes are required. Open-toed shoes, sandals, flip flops, soccer slides, Crocs, Keens, high heels, and slippers are not permitted in the warehouse. Some projects may require jewelry to be removed, and the Food Bank is not responsible for lost or stolen items, so please leave valuables at home. Arrive at least 15 minutes early to sign in and attend a brief orientation. Volunteers arriving more than 30 minutes after the start cannot be accepted. Volunteers must be at least 8 years old. Minors must be accompanied by an adult who is 21 or older for the full shift, with a ratio of one adult for every four youth ages 8 to 12 and one adult for every ten youth ages 13 to 15.
