This is a self-directed format with no instruction, so bring whatever materials you need and make use of the space while working alongside the community. It is drop in only and does not require registration. There is no adult guidance, so children who need help must be accompanied by an adult.

Teen Art Club

Teens gather at Bluff Strokes Art Center for a relaxed creative club where making art and new friends go hand in hand. Participants can choose quiet sketching alongside peers, draw or paint from a still life, or team up to plan and create larger projects. This spring, there is an opportunity to help design a backdrop for a play. Guest artists visit from time to time to share their work and the stories behind their artistic journeys. Support is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Iowa Arts Council, part of the Iowa Economic Development Authority.

The Babywearing Collective

The Babywearing Collective welcomes moms who love wearing their babies or are curious about getting started. This monthly meet-up at Goose & Giggles Play Cafe offers a relaxed setting to sip coffee while the kids play, try on different carriers, get help with fit and comfort, ask questions, and connect with other babywearing families. Whether brand new to babywearing or experienced with a favorite carrier, participants can learn, share, and build confidence in a supportive environment. Hosted by Chiro Mama, Katrina, and OT Mama and Certified Babywearing Specialist, Jenna, the focus is on connection, confidence, and community.

An in-town group ride for cyclists connected with Jubeck New World Brewing focuses on flexibility and community. The route and pace will be chosen together, and if the turnout is large the ride may split into smaller groups so everyone can find a comfortable fit. It is a regroup style outing, so riders may stretch out on climbs or faster sections, then come back together at natural pause points like intersections or the tops of hills. Bring lights, water, and an extra layer in case it cools down or rains. All riders are welcome, including anyone interested in learning more about the group. Local mealworm farmer Ry Meyer leads an introductory, hands-on class on how to raise this tiny, high-protein livestock. Learn how mealworms can provide an affordable protein source for wild birds, backyard chickens, and insect-eating pets, and why a small upfront setup can yield a thriving colony at home or in a garage. This single session covers the equipment you need, how to start and maintain a colony, the mealworm life cycle, daily care, troubleshooting common issues, and practical ways to use your harvest. Participants will handle live mealworms and explore simple methods that keep things tidy. Mealworms are harmless, cannot bite or fly, and are easy to manage. Ry brings a broad background to the topic. A Dubuque native and Clarke University graduate, he served six years on active duty in the Navy, studied at Vermont Law School, and now works as an attorney in Iowa. His lifelong interest in the natural world includes insect and bird watching, hosting a summer colony of Purple Martins, and nearly 15 years of beekeeping and mead making, including helping beekeepers in places such as Hawaii, Vermont, and at Convivium in Dubuque. Barkcloth: A Living Canvas

An opening reception celebrates a public exhibition centered on Lubugo, the traditional Ugandan barkcloth, brought to life through wearable design, cultural storytelling, and contemporary installation at the Voices Dupaco Building. The reception features free admission, an artist talk, and extended hours as part of First Fridays. Barkcloth garments by Stella Atal take the spotlight, with curation by Sarah Ndagire in collaboration with AfriWell Hub and DuMA. A continuously running video follows the harvesting and preparation of bark from the mutuba tree and its transformation into cloth, while also delving into its layered cultural meaning. Lubugo holds cultural, spiritual, and ecological significance in Uganda, and here it is presented as a living canvas for memory, identity, and creative expression. Support is provided by Big Field Fund, a program of Public Space One, with funding from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

2026 VTF Pinup Swap n'Shop

Part of Vintage Torque Fest, this swap and shop showcases vintage, rockabilly, retro, and pinup inspired goods inside the Creative Arts Building, also known as the Pinup Barn, at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds. Vendors must reserve tables in advance, and all table fees are nonrefundable. Proceeds from table sales support Helping Hannah’s Heart Foundation. Sellers are responsible for their own spaces and merchandise, and staff will not be available to watch tables. The organizers, the venue, and The Pinups Studio are not liable for sales issues or for missing or stolen items. A large turnout is anticipated, so plan to stay organized and attentive. During the designated drop off window, vehicles may pull up to the Creative Arts Building to unload, then alternative arrangements are needed afterward.

Friday Night Taps at the American Legion is a weekly ceremony dedicated to honoring fallen service members. In the cooler months it is held inside the post among the camaraderie of friends and family. When the weather is pleasant it moves outside, where the bugle can be heard in the open air and the flag stands prominently against the sky. This quiet observance offers a moment to pause, remember, and reflect, with every note of Taps sounded in their memory. Another chance to experience two photography exhibitions at Voices Studios brings distinct perspectives into one setting. The Edge of Light: Bodyscapes by Amy May Laskye examines the human figure through monochrome studies where shadow shapes and light clarifies. With attention to line and contour, the series encourages an unhurried gaze and holds vulnerability alongside quiet resilience. Laskye is a Certified Professional Photographer based in Galena, Illinois, with a practice that includes portraiture, boudoir, and conceptual work. Curated by Stephonie A. Schmitz. Palimpsest by Randy Richmond presents images that feel unearthed rather than constructed, exploring the interplay of what is present and what is missing, of memory and material trace. Mixing still life with landscape traditions, the photographs reveal layered meanings that reward close looking. Richmond is an American photographer whose career spans decades in fine art, teaching, and work with both traditional and alternative techniques. Curated by Janice Roerig-Blong. Together, these two unique bodies of work are presented side by side for a shared viewing experience.

Jukebox Bingo Fundraiser

Jukebox Bingo blends the excitement of Name That Tune with the classic bingo format in a music-filled fundraiser for Bell Tower Theater. Rounds highlight songs from movies and musicals, tracks known for memorable dance moves, and more. Players mark their cards as they recognize the tunes for chances to win prizes, and several gift baskets will be raffled. Hosted at Happy’s Place, this family-friendly event aims to raise funds for new stage lights for Bell Tower Theater. Set at Dubuque County Fairgrounds, this swap meet brings together enthusiasts of classic machines with a focus on vintage car, mini bike, and motorcycle parts. Enjoy a margarita-and-beach inspired paint and sip session at Captured on Canvas, where a friendly instructor leads a step-by-step painting experience from blank canvas to finished piece. At Dubuque County Fairgrounds, a celebration of vintage culture raises funds for children with congenital heart defects. Serving as the season’s kickoff, the lineup features music, a swap meet, mini bike races, a vintage motorcycle exhibition, dirt drag racing, and demolition derby action. Vendors from around the country, camping, food, and plenty of classic cars and motorcycles round out the experience.

Everything Old is New Again

Season 15 of Dubuque Dances with the Stars, presented in association with the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, brings dance performances to the Mississippi Moon Bar inside Diamond Jo Casino Dubuque. The event also serves as a fundraiser for the OAS Foundation through Olliewood Action Sports, which helps kids get active, confident, and connected through action sports like skateboarding and BMX. Goose & Giggles celebrates its first anniversary with a playful party created for young families. Attendees select a 60-minute play session that features a character visit, with appearances from Elsa, Spiderman, and a surprise guest. Each session includes time to explore the play space, a character interaction, one anniversary cupcake, a complimentary themed craft, a special photo backdrop, and a festive drink menu, plus access to limited anniversary promotions. Iowa Trail Run Series: Mines of Spain

Set within Dubuque’s Mines of Spain Recreation Area, this trail race offers 5K, 10K, and half marathon distances across some of Iowa’s most varied terrain. Runners will wind along singletrack, cross rolling prairie, move through wooded stretches, and take on a few short, steep climbs that add a spirited challenge. Scenic views of the bluffs above the Mississippi River create a memorable backdrop and a rewarding sense of accomplishment along the way.

Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

Enjoy an all you can eat pancake breakfast that supports local animals in need, taking place at the Dubuque Regional Humane Society. Nikki’s Pet Sitting partners with DRHS for this fundraiser, and all proceeds go directly to the organization. The menu features pancakes, sausage links, hash brown patties, bananas and clementines, along with orange and apple juice, white and chocolate milk, and coffee. Admission is $15 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. Activities include a 50/50 raffle with drawings, a bake sale table with donation based homemade treats for people plus homemade dog treats, and a presentation from DRHS about their work and the impact of community support. The book gathers explorations of alienation and epigenetics through references to Robin Williams’s children’s films, fairy tales, feminism, and the loss of a beloved cat. Borders recently relocated from the Chicago suburbs, where she continues to organize literary events, and she is becoming involved in Dubuque’s arts community. She also plans to start a writer’s networking group at River Lights Bookstore. Her previous titles include The Tarot for Writing Project and A Suburb of Monogamy, and she holds an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School along with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Critical Theory from the University of Iowa.

Time is set aside at the end to meet ambassador animals and ask questions. This free program welcomes all ages and is part of the EB Lyons Center 50th anniversary celebration. Ceramic artist Katie Herring of Soo What Ceramics leads a hands-on pot painting class where participants choose from playful face designs and other options, then hand paint low-fire pots. After decorating, select a plant from a curated assortment and pot it up with guidance from the Planted crew. Registration is $45 and includes a custom low-fire pot similar to terracotta, all paints and supplies, one plant from the curated selection, and a potting lesson with soil and instruction. Katie is the creative force behind Soo What Ceramics, with roots in the Midwest and more than 35 years spent on the East Coast, and she brings a love of sewing, gardening, and nearly two years of pottery experience to the studio. Laura, owner and Plant Aunt of Planted, holds a horticulture degree from Iowa State University, has over 15 years of experience with tropical plants, and is dedicated to building community around plant care.

Set as a recurring group bike ride, this outing begins in town and adjusts to the group’s preferences. If turnout is large, riders may split into smaller groups by agreement, with plenty of in-town options so everyone can choose what works for them. It follows a regroup format, so while some riders might get ahead, the group comes back together at intersections or at the top of hills. Bring lights, water, and an extra layer in case it gets cool or rainy. All cyclists are welcome. Plans may be updated if anything changes. The event takes place at Jubeck New World Brewing.

A country artist, wife, mom and children’s book author based in Madison, Wisconsin, she grew up on a dairy farm in eastern Iowa where music was part of everyday life. Shaped by the sounds of 90s country and pop, she spent years with well-known Midwest cover bands before stepping out on her own in 2018 and forming The Elizabeth Mary Band. She now plays more than 170 shows each year, from small rooms to major festivals like Brat Fest and Taste of Madison, mixing country, pop, classic rock and her own originals. Celebrate mothers with a thoughtfully planned experience focused on connection, creativity, and treats, all shared with little ones in a calm, beautiful setting. Highlights include a professional photo session with Rachael B Imagery, a make-your-own canvas tote project, and a flower bar where guests can assemble a bouquet to take home. Each ticket also includes a treat box from Something Sweet, a personalized t-shirt, a personal charcuterie box, and decor styled by Parties by Portz. Children can enjoy open play at Goose & Giggles Play Cafe as part of the experience. Admission covers one adult and two children, with the option to add additional children during checkout. Stuff the Truck Period Product Drive

Volunteers from the Red Basket Project will be in the lobbies of the three Dubuque Hy-Vee stores, offering shoppers a list of items with aisle numbers to make donating simple. With support from Runde Auto Group, a red pickup truck will be parked in front of each store, and the goal is to stuff the truck with donations.

Dubuque Card Show

The Dubuque Card Show takes place at the Q-Casino Reflections Center inside Q Casino + Resort and offers 60 vendor tables. Browse sports cards, Pokémon, TCG and other collectibles, including rare finds, graded slabs, singles, vintage items and sealed product. Buying, selling and trading happen throughout the event, and the atmosphere suits collectors of all levels. All ages are welcome, and an ATM is available in the arcade. Bicycle Swap Meet

Kick off Dubuque Bike Week with a bicycle-focused flea market and swap meet presented by the Dubuque Bike Coop and the Multicultural Family Center. Admission is free for the public. Vendors can reserve an 8 by 8 space that includes a table and two chairs, and may offer any bike-related items that fit within the space, including complete bicycles. The vendor fee is 20 dollars, with payment accepted in person at the Dubuque Bike Coop or via Venmo. Individuals who want to sell just one bike can do so for a 5 dollar per-bike fee. Bikes may be dropped off, and a Bike Coop representative will be on hand to assist interested shoppers. All unsold bicycles must be picked up. Proceeds support the Dubuque Bike Coop and the Multicultural Family Center.

Henderson inherited Earl Pearsons scrapbook documenting their career and success, and he will provide a book talk on both the Pearson Brothers career and the cultural history of that entertainment industry. Sacred Rage Acceptance and Protection

A space for collective healing that recognizes how, in a turbulent world, fierce feelings can carry wisdom. This gathering reframes anger as a messenger and teacher, and explores how meeting it with presence and an open heart can lead to greater wholeness. Session 2 focuses on acceptance and energetic protection. Participants will practice compassionate acceptance of their emotional experiences while learning tools for personal safety and energy care. The session includes guidance on healthy boundaries, grounding methods, spiritual protection, and simple physical empowerment exercises to cultivate inner steadiness and outward confidence. The aim is to protect what matters without losing tenderness and to voice a clear no with love. New Orleans Gumbo Cooking Class

Dubuque Psychic & Paranormal Expo - 11th Annual 2026

Returning to Dubuque, this one day expo gathers the psychic and paranormal community at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds in the Grand Ballroom. A $5 daily admission includes entry to explore more than 40 vendors offering a variety of merchandise, intuitive readings, and wellness treatments such as reiki and reflexology. Each vendor sets individual pricing for services and goods, so options suit a range of interests. River Day Blessing with Maryellen Baker and Karen Donahoe

At River’s Edge Plaza on the south end of the Mississippi Riverwalk, this program honors the Mississippi River on National Mississippi River Day, designated by the One Mississippi organization. It celebrates the waterway and includes a blessing that recognizes the river as a living and sacred presence. Maryellen Baker and her daughter, Karen Donahoe, members of the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe tribe, lead an Indigenous Welcome and Water Ceremony to honor the waters that flow through the Mississippi. Maryellen is Foundress and Director of the Abiinooji Aki Cultural Healing Center near Hayward, Wisconsin, and the Initiator of the Women & Water Indigenous International Clean Water Summit. The traditional ceremonies are open to the public for observation and participation. There is no cost to attend. Walk-ins are welcome and RSVPs are encouraged. The pavilion is open sided and offers shelter from rain, and the event will be canceled in the case of severe weather.

Two Wheel Trauma training at the Dubuque County Emergency Responder Training Facility focuses on building confidence in responding to motorcycle crashes. Participants learn to recognize key motorcycle components and the risks they present, apply fundamental approaches to crowd control at a crash scene, select appropriate care for life-threatening injuries that can occur in these incidents, and understand when a helmet should be removed and the correct way to do it.

KinderKamp invites children getting ready for kindergarten to a playful summer experience at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. As part of the museum’s seasonal camps for kids entering kindergarten through fifth grade, these themed sessions mix hands-on exploration with creative activities. Animal Heroes draws inspiration from the PAW Patrol pups and highlights real animals that help people and habitats. Campers tackle challenges, practice courageous and kind choices, and work as a team through stories, games, crafts, and interactive activities. Superpower Camp showcases the remarkable abilities found in nature and in animals. Through games, experiments, art projects, and time in the Paw Patrol Adventure Play exhibit, kids see how creatures handle obstacles in the wild and discover their own unique strengths. Registration closes one week before each session begins.

Strong Bodies, Strong Minds Kids Camp

This youth camp at Statera: Integrated Health and Wellness Solutions centers on movement, strength, confidence, and everyday healthy habits. Designed for ages 8 to 12, participants stay active with fitness challenges and team games outdoors, build teamwork and resilience through group activities, and practice simple mindfulness and breathing techniques for calm and focus. A favorite part of the experience is time in the hands-on teaching kitchen, where campers help prepare a simple, nutritious snack while learning how food supports an active body. Activities take place across the fitness space, wellness studio, teaching kitchen, and outdoor areas. Registration includes a camp T-shirt and a healthy snack each day. The fee is $125 and enrollment is limited to 12 participants. Two sessions are available. For comfort and safety, children should wear athletic clothing and athletic shoes suitable for both indoor and outdoor activities, and bring a water bottle. Please share any food allergies during registration, since campers will prepare and enjoy a snack. Drop-off and pick-up take place on the lower level of Statera.

Mississippi Moon Bar presents Songs & Stories from Music City featuring Clare Bowen and Jonathan Jackson. Bowen, known for portraying Scarlett O’Connor on the TV series Nashville, shares music shaped by her rural Australian upbringing and a career that includes duets with Zac Brown and Vince Gill, recording with GRAMMY winners T Bone Burnett and Buddy Miller who became mentors, and a spot on Sugarland’s “Still the Same” tour. Jackson, a musician, actor, author, and filmmaker recognized for roles as Lucky Spencer on General Hospital and Avery Barkley on Nashville, takes the stage with songs from Nashville, music from his new album, original poetry, and behind the scenes stories. The program also includes a Q&A. A VIP package priced at $75 features a ticket to the 90 minute performance plus a post show meet and greet with a photo opportunity, and it does not include an autograph.

TriState Cup

The TriState Cup brings teams to the Dubuque Girls Independent League Softball Complex and Peosta Community Center Fields for a multi-venue competition with guaranteed play. Most divisions receive five games, while 8U competes in a single day with three games guaranteed. The championship team takes home a big cup. Entry fees are 100 dollars for 8U and 500 dollars for 10U and 12U.

June Bee Tour at Convivium Urban Farmstead

Explore the gardens at Convivium Urban Farmstead during a two-hour tour that includes a dedicated stop to view the hives and a brief classroom presentation. Meet the bees, then learn about the bee life cycle, what happens inside a hive, and the vital role bees play in the ecosystem. Half of the experience takes place in a seated classroom setting. UD for Kids 2026 is open to students who have completed grades 1 through 7. The program offers separate sessions for those finishing grades 1 to 2, 3 to 4, and 5 to 7. An online application must be completed before registering for classes, and additional details are available on the UD for Kids website.

Filling Your Cup is a morning gathering at Q Casino + Resort designed to inspire and inform with a focus on community, advocacy, and collective impact. Opening Doors will offer updates through remarks from new Executive Director Jessica Schlader, followed by a keynote from Amber Swenor, a transformational leadership and business consultant, speaker, and founder of Soul Seed Strategy. As the author of Unleashed, Amber shares a heart-centered perspective grounded in purpose, connection, and real-world leadership. The keynote centers on lifting as you climb by leading with purpose, strengthening connection, and advancing collective impact. The program highlights how Opening Doors continues to walk alongside women and children as they work toward stability, dignity, and hope, and how community support plays a vital part in that journey.

Make Your Mark with Nature

Explore art in the fresh air at Mines of Spain with a hands-on workshop that invites close observation of the natural world. Choose to focus on plants by drawing with traditional tools and techniques, or create designs by arranging found materials such as twigs, leaves, and stones into two or three dimensional patterns guided by their shapes and textures. You are welcome to try both approaches during the session. Artists from Project Art for Nature (PAN) Vera Ming Wong, Christine Olson, and Bonnie Ploger will lead activities in the conservation area around the E.B. Lyons Interpretive Center. All experience levels are welcome, from first-time creators to experienced artists. This workshop is intended for ages 13 and older. Registration is encouraged, though not required. Community Acupuncture

Experience individualized acupuncture in a shared, calming setting on the upper level at Statera. Each person receives personalized care while relaxing in a reclining chair, with points typically used below the elbows and knees. A brief health history form is required before the first appointment. The cost is $40. 🐝 Honeybee Explorers: A Family Adventure

Families with children ages 6 to 12 can explore the world of honeybees at the Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens Visitor Center with Dry Creek Beekeeping. Participants will watch activity inside an observation hive, taste different honeys, try out basic beekeeping tools, and make a bee themed UV craft. Along the way, kids and their adults learn how bees live, pollinate, and make honey through hands on activities. Admission is $25 per parent and child pair. Tickets are nonrefundable, and ticketing fees help support the Arboretum. Space is limited, and more details will be shared soon.
