Thistle & Thorne Open Mic
A weekly open mic at Thistle & Thorne in downtown Panama City welcomes performers of every age and skill level, hosted by local musician and entertainer and event planner Nicky Sunflower. Musicians receive a 15-minute slot, typically enough for about four songs, and keep any tips. Bring your own instrument, since this is not karaoke. Original backing tracks are welcome, and a USB-C to AUX connection can be provided. The setup currently favors solo performers. You may bring an additional amp to accompany someone, and any setup time counts toward your slot. A cappella, comedy, and poetry are also invited, with spoken word sets running 8 minutes. The space is family friendly, so material should remain clean and respectful. Sign-up is available online or in person, and if you are not checked in 10 minutes before your turn, your spot may be reassigned. Short performance clips of about 30 seconds may be recorded and shared to the venue’s Facebook story unless you ask otherwise, and Nicky can send those videos on request. Emerald Coast Networking presents an evening centered on fellowship, purpose, and community impact, celebrating America 250 through Compassion in Action while raising support for CrossCountry3 at the Hilton Garden Inn Miramar Beach. The program features CrossCountry3 founder Bruce Duty, MAJ, USA (Ret.), a decorated combat veteran who served 22 years, including two combat deployments to Iraq with the 3rd Infantry Division and the 10th Mountain Division, and whose awards include the Bronze Star Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. Inspired by the challenges many veterans face after returning home, he launched CrossCountry3 to help service members rediscover hope, identity, and purpose beyond the uniform. CrossCountry3 equips veterans through mentorship, resilience and leadership training, retreats, workshops, and service opportunities that encourage them to become protectors and servant leaders in their communities. Participants are also trained to help fight human trafficking and to serve vulnerable populations across the country. The evening begins with a social hour and silent auction, continues with dinner and a presentation by Bruce Duty, and concludes with the auction winners being announced. A cash bar will be available. Tickets are $35 per person. Sponsor tables are $400 for a table of eight and include recognition during the event, featured placement in the event program, and recognition on social media. Attendance supports efforts to help veterans move from service to purpose and to strengthen communities while combating exploitation.

Roots at The Root presents singer songwriter Jessica Bellaire at Wildroot Coffee in downtown Panama City for an intimate listening room show in the spirit of old-time, folk, and Americana, with an opening set by Corey Hall. A banjo and guitar player as well as a vocalist and dancer, Bellaire is rooted in old-time traditions, drawn to the stories behind the tunes, and learns directly from regional musicians she meets on her travels. She discovered the style through a friend and her local contra dance community, then immersed herself in festivals across the country where she trades tunes, performs, and dances. Her performances include the Will McLean Music Festival, the Florida Folk Festival, and venues throughout the Southeast, and in 2024 she won the Florida Banjo Championship. For her, this music is about connection to history, to place, and to the people who gather to make it. Admission is 15 dollars at the door, and food, drinks, beer, and wine will be available.

Children ages 5 to 12 step into a world of magic, fairies, and fantasy during this themed week of L&C Artistry’s Summer Art Camp. Young artists create miniature fairy houses, experiment with mixed media by layering paint, collage, and texture, explore glitter and resist methods, and bring imaginative scenes to life through fantasy illustration. Throughout the week, campers try new materials and techniques, and they take home original artworks they created themselves. Art activities are paired with literacy to grow vocabulary, inspire storytelling, and strengthen communication, while also fostering creativity, confidence, and thoughtful problem solving. With a friendly balance of learning and play, this session provides a welcoming space where imagination flourishes and self expression is encouraged.
Pokemon
Pursue Pokémon mastery at Stutelage through hands-on creativity, games, and discovery. Participants will make their own Pokeballs, design unique characters, and craft Pikachu masks. A homegrown version of Pokémon Go is part of the fun, and there will be a chance to learn about metamorphosis. Each day ends with a dedicated card trading session, and attendees are welcome to bring cards to trade with new friends.

Enjoy a morning filled with teddy bear themed activities for young children. All gear is stored in the garage and is self-serve. It may be moved anywhere on the property, including the stage area, but it must remain on-site. The area is monitored, and equipment is tracked to ensure everything stays on the premises. This ongoing program keeps the space active for musicians while work continues toward more fully hosted events.

Archaeology on Tap arrives at FINNS at Little Village in Historic St. Andrews with a featured talk by Dr. Jason Wenzel of Gulf Coast State College. The presentation follows the life of Captain David R. Blood, who reached St. Andrews Bay in 1841 aboard a small black-hulled sloop later called the Widow, established himself in the center of St. Andrews City, and remained there until 1857. Dr. Wenzel situates Blood’s story within the written history of St. Andrews and shares findings from recent archaeological work at the captain’s former homesite conducted by Gulf Coast State College and the Bay Anthropological Society. The program also highlights current research underway in the Old Town area of St. Andrews in Panama City. Archaeology on Tap mirrors the long-running ArchaeoCafé format, only hosted at a local brewery instead of a restaurant. Admission is free, it welcomes the community, it is recommended for adults, and seating is not reserved.

Open to every skill level, this two day pinball competition begins with a High Score Challenge and concludes with a Fair Strike Knockout finals. Up to 80 players can take part in the opening round, spending the day chasing top scores on as many machines as they like. Each participant may submit up to three scores per machine. To take part, purchase an arcade wristband, let a staff member know you want scores tracked, and receive a player card. Keep this card, as replacements are not provided. Names are added to the participant list after the first score is submitted. To record a score, take a photo of the score display with the player card visible and show it to the bar staff so it can be officially entered. If the final score screen clears before a photo is taken, use the flipper buttons to cycle the display until the score appears again. When day one ends, the top eight advance to the finals on day two. The finals use a Fair Strike Knockout format with groups of three or four. Finishing order determines how many strikes each player receives, and elimination occurs once a player reaches four strikes. Finalists do not need an additional wristband or tournament fee, though players with a monthly membership must pay a $10 charge. Cash awards are presented to the top finishers at the end of the tournament.

A cappella, comedy, and poetry are invited, with an 8 minute window for non musical sets. Please keep material family friendly and respectful toward others. Before his passing, he encouraged the council to create a wild game luncheon that would champion women in construction, and this celebration continues that vision.
