Lactation Education - Mommy & Me Program

A prenatal breastfeeding class presented by Merced WIC and the Boys & Girls Club of Merced County focuses on the essentials of feeding your baby. Learn the fundamentals of breastfeeding, pumping, and bottle feeding, how to recognize that your baby is getting enough milk, how antibodies support infant health, and ways to sort fact from common myths. The session is free and open to the public, with no requirement to be part of WIC or the Boys & Girls Club, and no advance registration needed. Spanish interpretation will be available. Goodie bags will be offered to the first 10 attendees. The class takes place at the Boys & Girls Club Teen Center in Merced and is intended for those who are pregnant or newly postpartum.

Celebrate the season with a screen free camp built around child led play. Children choose how and when to dive into hands on experiences, creating a gentle reset from busy routines while discovering what inspires them most. Materials and spaces are ready for exploration, including paint, loose parts, a mud kitchen, a wide variety of water play, sensory bins, music, crafts, cooking, fort building, Magna-Tiles and blocks, a playhouse, and a fairy garden. Community Ride

Open to all, this free monthly ride rolls out from Applegate Park Playground and follows an easygoing route along Merced’s bike paths with some street sections. It is family friendly and organized as a no drop ride, averaging about 8 to 10 miles per hour. Plan for roughly two hours and a distance of about 12 to 15 miles, with a relaxed pace that leaves room for conversation and enjoying the scenery. Children are welcome, and younger riders should travel with a parent in a trailer, tag along, or bike seat. Helmets are required. After the ride, many participants head downtown for coffee at Coffee Bandits, which is also when the monthly meeting takes place.

This Independence Day celebration at The Tarmac in Atwater with Blaker Brewing features craft beer, wine, patriotic cocktails, several live bands, games, and a fireworks show. A Blaker Tarmac pass is required for entry and provides access to venue amenities and adult beverages. Families can enjoy classic fare such as hot dogs, corn dogs, kettle corn, cotton candy, churros, and more. Reserved seating for the fireworks is available through the SkyLo area for groups seeking a special vantage point. Guests under 16 are admitted free with a ticketed adult. Parking is not included with admission, and the county charges $20 per vehicle at the entrance. Capacity is limited to keep the atmosphere comfortable, offering a relaxed alternative to crowded parade grounds while marking 250 years of independence.

CLEAR THE KENNELS 2026

A community-focused shelter event invites animal lovers to help match pets with new families while learning about responsible care. Reduced adoption fees make it easier to take home a companion, with cats available for $15 and dogs for $35. Guests can meet adoptable pets, talk with rescue groups and veterinary partners, and explore resources on animal welfare, spaying and neutering, and solutions to pet overpopulation. Local vendors will be on site, and Sheriff Vern Warnke will be grilling for a casual bite. Each successful adoption frees space for another animal and offers a fresh start.
