Helmets and lights are required, and riders should bring the tools and gear needed to fix a flat. Earbuds are not permitted while riding. Bring enough water for the day’s conditions. Weather can affect plans. The ride will not proceed in dangerously hot weather, dust storms, rain, strong winds, or if lightning is in the forecast. A pavement-focused group ride departs from Rio Vista Community Park and is geared toward cyclists looking for a step up from beginner outings. It is scheduled every other Saturday for those who prefer road riding over gravel or mountain bike trails. Routes and distances change from ride to ride, but plan for more than 20 miles at an average pace of about 14 to 15 mph, with breaks as needed. Helmets are mandatory. Arizona heat calls for plenty of water, and hydration stops will be part of the plan.
