Park Chats: Laboring in a Land of Leisure
In a setting known for heat, humidity, and demanding labor, bathhouses in Hot Springs became pathways to opportunity for African Americans, strengthening both individuals and the wider community. This program shares interwoven stories of work and resilience that left a mark on Hot Springs National Park, the surrounding region, and the nation, offered as the country approaches its 250th birthday. Presented as part of a collaborative series from Garland County Library and Hot Springs National Park, it can be experienced in person or via livestream on the Library’s YouTube channel or the Garland County Library Facebook page.

This session welcomes Hot Springs musicians who want to learn how to jam bluegrass in a friendly group setting. It is open to all ages and skill levels. Participants only need familiarity with the basic chords G, C, D, and A. Bring your instrument, whether it is a guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, or upright bass, and get ready to make music together.
