Each class offers a welcoming place to slow down with fully supported poses, gentle breathwork, yoga nidra, and soothing sound. This practice can ease physical and emotional tension, lower anxiety and overwhelm, support recovery from burnout, and improve sleep and overall well-being. The focus is rest, not performance. Expect time lying down, fully supported, so you can truly relax. As the weeks unfold, it can become easier to recognize a sense of calm and bring that steadiness into daily life. It may create space to pause before saying yes, interrupt anxious spirals, and ease the pressure to do everything perfectly. This is not about escape, it is about meeting life from a steadier place. Open to all experience levels. Held at Open Space Alaska. The full series is $175 and recommended, with a drop-in option available.

First Friday at Turnagain Ceramics pairs a complimentary community pottery throw with an opening reception for the featured artists. The front gallery highlights handmade work by studio members, ranging from everyday pieces like plates, mugs, and bowls to unique jewelry and sculpture. This edition spotlights Erin Cockreham and Jasmine Woodland. Erin holds a BA in Ceramics and Psychology, spent time as a professional baker, and teaches at Turnagain Ceramics, fostering a kind, welcoming environment for learners of all skill levels. Her pieces emphasize vibrant color, comfortable forms, and strong shapes complemented by thoughtful glazes, often imagined alongside home-cooked meals. Outside the studio she enjoys creative writing and hosting friends. Jasmine is a fourth-generation Alaskan from the Kenai Peninsula who studied environmental science in Anchorage and began creating at Turnagain Ceramics in 2023. Influenced by a background in graphic design and a love of bright, cheerful palettes, she crafts work with bold patterns, dynamic shapes, and botanical motifs, with those themes also appearing in her handmade earrings. A small cat detail on the bottom of each pot adds her playful signature.
Turnagain Ceramics3D Mosaic Mushroom Class
Learn to create a three-dimensional mosaic mushroom in a mixed media class held in the studio. The project begins by mosaicking a wood-turned mushroom form with chipped glass, adding small white marbles for the spots, and decorating the stem with flower beads and leaf tiles. After grouting, finish the piece by applying sand, rocks, and faux moss in resin onto a raw edge wood stand for a sturdy result. Each mushroom measures about five inches tall at the stem and about four inches wide at the cap. Because the mushroom bases are crafted by a wood turner, participation supports multiple artists. Examples made by students in the studio show how the finished pieces can look. It also works as an early Mother’s Day gift idea or a creative outing with a friend.

It is typically most effective on an empty stomach, so a small meal two or more hours beforehand is suggested. The evening closes with light snacks to help ground the experience and encourage community sharing. Betsi draws on more than nine years of cacao work to guide a journey through release, returning to self, connection with community, a sense of unity, and celebration. Practices invite the feeling of being in love and the recognition that this love lives within, building resilience to move through life as a higher self while creating space for others to do the same. Participants are encouraged to arrive open and without expectations. Bringing a mug and a water bottle is helpful, and paper cups will be available. Because cacao is a diuretic and can prompt a detox response, steady hydration before, during, and after the event is beneficial. Drinking cacao is optional and the ceremony is fully accessible without it. Attendees may place a meaningful item on the communal altar if they wish. Wear comfortable clothing for movement. Ecstatic dance is meditative and quiet, and dancers refrain from speaking and physical contact. Arriving on time and staying through the closing circle supports the shared container. Admission is 60 dollars and includes the four hour ceremony, a ceremonial serving of single origin cacao prepared with modern shamanic technique, a live EDM DJ set, and snacks at the end.
