Merengue Social Dance Workshop

With so many danceable concerts in Morgantown, this workshop teaches merengue so you can break out fresh steps at your next upbeat live show. Merengue is a partner dance in the Dominican style, known for a consistent beat and a straightforward basic step that makes it friendly for beginners. The atmosphere is lively and social, and the moves you learn translate well to a range of musical styles. Participants may bring a partner. The celebration pairs bananas and bass with three hours of music as @side.quest.musick, @officialbatterylow, and @itsjustwalt deliver DJ and producer sets while the quest to recover the Kong family banana hoard unfolds. An open decks session and SNES free play precede the featured sets. Four CDJ-3000 players and a DJM-A9 mixer will be available, and participants can plug in with a Rekordbox formatted USB. Open decks access is included with a $10 cover, and the SNES will be set up for anyone who wants to play. Costumes and flow art are encouraged. Eloquence Antiques hosts a large indoor vintage market throughout the hallways of Mountaineer Mall in Morgantown, WV. Vendor spaces must be reserved in advance, with each reservation priced at $15 for a 12-by-10-foot area. Out-Of-The-Box

Out of the Box pops up at First Friday with a hands-on making space at Andrew White Guitars. This Spark! program invites children and adults to turn everyday materials into imaginative creations. Participants can bring a cardboard box or use one provided, then experiment with cardboard, tubes, fabric, and other reusable supplies. Transform a simple box into a spaceship, a castle, a robot, a puppet stage, or anything you dream up. There are no templates or step by step directions, only open ended building, collaboration, and play. There is no cost to participate, and people of every age are welcome. The format is casual and drop in. Supported by The Organizational Arts Grant, made possible by the City of Morgantown, the Monongalia County Commission, and the Douglas H. Tanner Memorial Fund for the Arts, in collaboration with YCF and the Arts Council of Greater Morgantown.

4th of July Parade

Downtown Morgantown comes alive as the community parade returns to High Street after several years away. The celebration features colorful floats, marching groups, and plenty of music centered on community spirit. Festivities begin with bike decorating on the Mountainlair Green so riders can lead the parade in a traditional bicycle procession, with decorations provided by BOPARC. After the parade sets off, Hazel Ruby McQuain Park welcomes everyone with food trucks and family-friendly activities, entertainment follows, and a fireworks show brings the night to a close.

United States Semiquincentennial 4th of July Celebration

At the Ruby Amphitheater, this community celebration honors the United States semiquincentennial and the county’s 250th anniversary with live music by The Jukebox Band, food and drinks, and family-friendly activities. Kids can enjoy free face painting and an inflatable fun zone. After the entertainment, a fireworks display will light up the sky. The fireworks are sponsored by Moses Toyota of Morgantown.

Fourth of July Concert

The WVU College of Creative Arts and Media hosts the annual outdoor Independence Day concert featuring the Morgantown Municipal Band. The performance takes place in front of the Canady Creative Arts Center on the Evansdale Campus of West Virginia University in Morgantown, across from the WVU Coliseum. This year the band is conducted by John Hendricks, retired associate dean of the College of Creative Arts and Media and professor emeritus with the WVU School of Music. The program features music by John Philip Sousa, Irving Berlin, Cohan, Joplin, and others, with familiar selections such as America the Beautiful, a tribute to the Armed Forces, and The Stars and Stripes Forever. The concert is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, sun protection, and water. If weather becomes a concern, the performance will move indoors to the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theater. Parking is available in the lots in front of the Canady Creative Arts Center.

Tot Trek offers a chance for families to explore Morgantown outdoor gems together at Chestnut Ridge Park & Campground. These hikes are very little kid friendly, geared mainly for children ages 3 to 5. Smaller kids can ride in a carrier, and older children are welcome if they are comfortable with a slower, little kid pace. Along the way, participants will learn a few things and either before or after enjoy a theme related story time or craft. The meeting point is the picnic tables under the big pine trees by the lake. This is one of the shorter routes, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the playground and lake afterward. Bring nets and water shoes, since catching newts in the lake is a popular activity at this spot. Cost is $5 per family.

Explore nature at the Botanic Garden with activities tailored to young children. A WVBG educator leads a brief storytime, a guided walk, and a simple hands-on craft. Meet Mini Therapy Horses

Meet mini therapy horses Stormy and Toby and discover how therapy animals support people with disabilities through equine-assisted services. The duo works with On Eagles Wings, an organization focused on providing a safe environment that helps individuals enrich and enhance their lives. Children ages 5 to 12 will have the chance to visit with the horses, learn about their roles, and interact with them through reading and other activities. All professionals involved with On Eagles Wings are trained and certified through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship and the American Hippotherapy Association. Registration is required, and participants can reserve a 20-minute time slot online, by phone, or in person.

Ruth’s Speakeasy sets the stage for a murder mystery fundraiser dinner filled with strong drinks, smooth music, and a room full of possible culprits. Gangsters mingle with businesspeople, jazz singers charm the crowd, and danger hides behind friendly smiles. One person is dead and secrets are everywhere, and attendees are invited to follow the clues and solve the case. The cast includes Mona Bapat, Christian Cox, Kate Crooks, Maeve Dowling, Angela Kauffman, Jon Kline, Becky McDaniel, Jamie Wood, and Darus Zerbach. Tickets are $45 for one and include dinner and entertainment. A two-person option is $80 with dinner and the show for both. A corporate table is $500, providing reserved seating, dinner for your guests, and an added charitable contribution that supports the Holiday Food Basket Program. Part of each ticket benefits this community effort so local families can count on holiday meals. One hundred dollars feeds a family. Reiki Level 1 Workshop & Attunement (Two-day workshop)

Explore a foundational, two-day introduction to Reiki at BlissBlissBliss. Led by Reiki Master Teacher Sarah Smith, this Level 1 training blends clear instruction with extensive hands-on practice and includes an attunement, a manual, and a certificate upon completion. Attendance at both sessions is required to complete the course. Reiki, pronounced ray-key, is a Japanese practice originating with Mikao Usui that encourages relaxation and stress reduction while supporting healing on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. It works with the body’s energy centers to promote balance, aligns with any belief system and healthcare regimen, and is open to complete beginners as well as those previously attuned. No massage or bodywork background is needed. The curriculum covers what Reiki is, how it supports healing and common applications, an overview of its history, Gassho meditation, sensing energy through Byosen scanning, Kenyoku dry bathing, guidance for self-sessions, and supervised practice offering Reiki to others. A Level 1 attunement emphasizes self-healing and sets the stage for future work with clients. Reiki can also be shared with animals and plants, infused into water and crystals, and offered at a distance to encourage harmony. Recognized as a complementary alternative modality, it is practiced worldwide. The course fee is $180, and space is limited. Comfortable clothing is recommended. Light snacks, water, and hot tea are provided. Settle in for a relaxed creative experience, enjoy fresh-made dip with pita plus a fountain beverage with free refills while you work, and choose from additional menu items available for purchase. The fee is $35 per person. Space is limited, so early registration is recommended. Cancellations made at least 24 hours in advance receive credit toward a future event, and those made with less than 24 hours notice are not transferable. Because materials are prepared ahead of time, refunds are not offered. If weather forces a closure, participants may choose a full refund or a credit. If you opt out due to weather with 24 or more hours notice, a credit will be issued, and with less than 24 hours notice, credit may be considered on a case by case basis.
