May 6th - ADVANCED chunky knit blanket workshop at the Tap Yard Brookfield

An advanced chunky knit blanket workshop at the Tap Yard Brookfield welcomes returning students who have already completed a prior session with the instructor. Patience is essential, as everyone will work on different projects while receiving one-on-one guidance. It is preferred that participants feel mostly comfortable working independently and using the side loop, with help available for starting, finishing, and color changes. This is the first advanced offering from this instructor. Enrollment is limited to eight people to allow for individualized support. Each registration includes eight skeins of yarn, and projects will be larger lap blankets. The session is planned for about four hours, although it may run longer with additional yarn or more intricate designs. Color selection emails will be sent about four weeks before the event. Ten design options are available, each with its own details and pricing. Choices include a basic large lap knit in up to three colors at 110 dollars, fall rainbow or neon rainbow stripe designs at 120 dollars, and a watermelon pattern at 120 dollars that needs a tighter knit for the seed details. Mini hearts designs in stripes or scattered patterns are 130 dollars, allow limited color choices, and also require a tighter knit. One-color herringbone or broken herringbone options are 130 dollars and measure about 50 by 48 inches. One-color seed stitch or broken rib stitch options are 130 dollars and measure about 52 by 50 inches. All sizes are approximate and may vary with loop size and tension. This outdoor event will communicate any weather updates to the email used at registration. The location is dog friendly, and dogs must remain on a six foot leash. Carry-ins are not permitted. A daily or annual park entrance permit is required for vehicles using Fox Brook Park, Minooka Park, or Menomonee Park, and all passes are handled online since the entrance booth is not staffed. Blanket size varies based on a looser or tighter knit. The tightest style produces a blanket around 45 by 42 inches, and many turn out larger. This is an outdoor event, and weather updates will be sent to the email used at registration. Advance registration is required and seating is limited, first come first served. Two pricing options are available. The $65 option lets participants choose from yarn colors brought to the workshop. The $85 option allows preselecting premium yarn that is softer and thicker and can better conceal imperfections, with the choice of one or two colors finalized by email approximately four weeks before the workshop. Ages 12 and up may work on a blanket independently. There may be multiple dates scheduled, so the correct date should be selected during booking. The venue is dog friendly and all dogs must be on 6 foot leashes. No carry ins. A Daily or Annual Park Entrance Permit is required for vehicles using Fox Brook Park, Minooka Park, or Menomonee Park, and the annual pass is valid at all three Tap Yard Beer Gardens within Waukesha County Parks. Pay within five days of a visit to avoid a violation ticket. Entry is not guaranteed when facilities are at capacity or for special events. Open House and Night Sky Viewing at the Observatory

The Milwaukee Astronomical Society opens its nearly century‑old, three‑acre observatory for the year’s first free public open house. The evening features a presentation by NASA Solar System Ambassador Dr. Dennis Roscoe on recent NASA missions and the study of galaxies. As night falls, volunteers offer tours and guide telescope views of deep‑sky sights such as galaxies, star clusters, and nebulas, weather permitting, while answering questions about astronomy and membership. Representatives from the Horwitz De‑Remer Planetarium will be on site with activities and information. Admission is free, and this volunteer‑run facility welcomes donations to help with upkeep. Because parking impacts the grounds, a minimum donation of at least $5 per person is encouraged. Dress for outdoor conditions. The meeting hall is heated and air conditioned, with restrooms available. Bug spray and a flashlight are recommended, and to protect night vision, please keep lights dim or use red tape, which is available at the welcome table. Parking is available on site with guidance from volunteers. The meeting hall is wheelchair accessible with a ramp available on request, and most other buildings are at ground level except for three where little activity is planned. Families are welcome, with hands‑on options for kids like a night "starry theater" for creating constellations, along with additional activities from the local planetarium. Information about membership, including access to observatory use and scope rentals, as well as family, individual, and student rate options, will be available at the welcome table. The open house takes place rain or shine, with telescope viewing as conditions allow.

May 27th - The Tap Yard Waukesha Chunky Knit Blanket Workshop

Settle in at The Tap Yard’s Waukesha location for an outdoor, hands-on chunky knit blanket workshop set within Waukesha County parks. Each registered participant receives a first drink, creating a relaxed setting to craft and connect with friends. Registration includes everything needed to complete a chunky knit blanket during the session, a beer ticket, a bag for carrying the finished blanket, and emailed instructions to support future projects. Tips for purchasing yarn are also provided afterward. This experience welcomes beginners as well as seasoned knitters. Blankets are created using only your hands, no needles required, and participants typically leave with a finished, cozy piece packed in the provided blanket bag along with a new skill. Blanket size varies based on how loose or tight you prefer to knit. The tightest style yields a blanket of about 45 by 42, and most turn out larger. Pre-registration is required and seating is limited to 16 participants on a first come, first served basis. Two pricing options are available. The $65 option allows you to choose from the yarn colors brought to the workshop. The $85 option lets you preselect one or two colors in a premium yarn that is a bit softer and thicker and tends to hide imperfections, with a wide range of colors to choose from. For the $85 option, color selection is handled by email about four weeks in advance. If not sold out, the $85 option closes about four weeks before the workshop and the $65 option closes about two weeks before the workshop. Ages 12 and up may work on a blanket independently. This is an outdoor event and weather updates will be sent to the email used at registration. The venue is dog friendly and all dogs must be on six foot leashes. No carry-ins are allowed. A daily or annual park entrance permit is required for any vehicle using Fox Brook Park, Minooka Park, or Menomonee Park, and the annual pass is valid at all three Tap Yard beer gardens within Waukesha County Parks. Pay within five days of your visit to avoid a violation ticket. Entrance is not guaranteed when facilities are at capacity or during special events. Entrance booths are not staffed and all passes are handled online.
