Fond du Lac native Christopher Micklos visits Chapter 52 Bookstore to mark the first anniversary of his debut novel, TICK TOWN. Guests can meet the author and pick up signed copies of TICK TOWN, and he will also have the Wisconsin-set anthology A WISCONSIN HARVEST OF HORROR, which features his pulp horror story "Hell Bugs." TICK TOWN races through a small northern Wisconsin tourist town as giant mutant ticks turn it into their feeding ground, blending a love for mid-century big-bug films with the spirit of 70s and 80s pulp horror paperbacks and comics. The novel has drawn praise from leading voices in the genre, with Shaun Hutson calling it a standout throwback to the golden age of pulp horror and Ramsey Campbell noting its gruesome giant-bug mayhem in the Guy N. Smith tradition. Micklos is an award-winning filmmaker and a frequently published writer of horror-themed fiction and non-fiction. He grew up in Fond du Lac, graduated from Goodrich High School in the class of 1988, and now lives in Madison, Wisconsin.

Free, weekly summer track workouts take place at Cardinal Stadium and welcome runners of all ages and experience levels, including non-members. Sessions usually begin with brief announcements and an overview of the plan for the evening, and the track is generally available beforehand for anyone who wants extra warm-up time. Each week features a different set of repeats totaling about 3 miles on the track, with intervals typically ranging from 100 meters to 1600 meters, most often between 400 and 1600. Two groups often run side by side, one faster and one slower, so everyone can settle into a comfortable rhythm. Participants are encouraged to follow the workout at their own pace, and it is not necessary to complete the full distance. Expect a friendly crowd of roughly 15 to 30 people, access to restrooms, and plenty of parking. Please bring your own food and drinks, dress for the weather, and consider packing extra dry layers. In the event of poor conditions, a club representative is usually on site, but individuals should use their judgment, especially if traveling from out of town. Free weekly track workouts run throughout the summer at Cardinal Stadium. Hosted by a running club and open to everyone, including nonmembers, these sessions welcome all ages and ability levels. Each gathering starts with short announcements and an overview of the plan, followed by about three miles of interval running on the track. The workout changes each week and often features repeats from 100 meters up to 1600 meters, with most sets in the 400 to 1600 meter range. Two informal pace groups usually form to match recovery needs. Participants are encouraged to go at a comfortable effort, and completing the full distance is not required. Expect a friendly crowd of roughly 15 to 30 people. Restrooms and ample parking are available. Bring your own water and snacks, dress for the weather, and consider packing dry clothes.
