Open Shop Hours

Open Shop at Foss Waterway Seaport provides time and space to work on personal woodworking projects with safety training and guidance from industry professionals. Advance online registration is required. If no one is registered, staff may leave early, so signing up ahead helps ensure the shop is open. Every participant completes a safety orientation before being cleared to use tools, and the pace of tool trainings depends on attendance. Those who want to move through trainings more quickly can arrange a private lesson. Bring your own wood and hardware. The shop supplies small consumables such as sandpaper and glue. Storage between sessions is not provided unless arranged in advance, so plan to take projects home after each visit. These sessions are geared toward intermediate to advanced woodworkers, though all skill levels are welcome. Beginners should expect additional tool trainings and power tool supervision, and this is not a formal class, so participants work independently on their projects. For project ideas or to discuss fit, contact Boat Shop Manager Cori Shooter at cori.shooter@fosswaterwayseaport.org or 253-272-2750 Ext. 106. Ages 16 and over are welcome, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Squeaky Feet + Whalien at Spanish Ballroom

McMenamins presents an evening at the Spanish Ballroom featuring Squeaky Feet with Whalien. Squeaky Feet, a Denver-based quintet formed by Berklee College of Music alumni, blends progressive rock, jazz fusion, and dance-friendly grooves, taking cues from King Crimson, Weather Report, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, and Rush, along with the improvisational approach of Phish, Umphrey’s McGee, and Dopapod. The lineup of Colin Shore, Greg King, Jimmy Finnegan, Brian Keller, and Kevin D’Angelo is known for intricate rhythms, bold improvisation, and high-energy performances. Their debut studio album, Cause for Alarm, arrived in 2023 as an 80-minute journey that includes the single “Tunnel Vision” featuring guitarist Mark Lettieri. Whalien adds its kinetic live spirit with surprise trombone spotlights, disco-styled breakbeats, honky-tonk shuffles, and ska suites inspired by cryptids. The band first made waves by winning the 2018 Summer Meltdown Showdown, which led to performances alongside Lettuce, Greensky Bluegrass, and Big Gigantic at Washington State’s Summer Meltdown Festival. Since then, they have played more than 200 shows across the West Coast, released the albums For Realien in 2022 and Whale Tales in December 2023, launched the Splish Splash festival outside of Bellingham, Washington in 2024, and begun work on a third studio album recorded in fall 2025. June Artist Reception

An artist reception spotlights the work of Rita Welch and Anne Doane, pairing Western Realism with luminous studies of light. Welch, an award-winning oil painter with more than 35 years devoted to her craft, paints the spirit of the Old West, open country, and horses. Her paintings have earned honors at regional exhibitions, including recognition at the Washington State Fair in 2018, Premier Gallery’s Visions of Peace in 2018, and Tahoma Center Gallery’s Ebb and Flow in 2017. She is an active member of Rainier Art Club. Doane builds each piece around how light shapes feeling, selecting oil, acrylic, watercolor, or mixed media to best convey atmosphere and mood. Her artistic journey began at Charles Wright Academy, continued through study at the University of Puget Sound, and concluded with graduation from the University of Washington. Together, their work invites viewers to explore the West and beyond, where story, landscape, and light meet.

Holy Locust and more

McMenamins presents an all ages show featuring Holy Locust, Hot Damn Scandal, and Yes Ma'am. Holy Locust delivers American folk that reaches beyond tradition, shifting from aggressive experiments to tuneful anthems. Layered vocals rise over dynamic rhythms and memorable melodies, with string arrangements that surge and cry, shaping songs that voice defiance toward consumer culture. Hot Damn Scandal blends outlaw ballads, gritty jazz, circus energy, shanty rags, string band funk, lonesome tearjerkers, and whiskey-soaked love songs into a theatrical, orchestral, and lyrical strain of Americana that invites dancing. Yes Ma'am draws on the swamps and underpasses of the South, fusing Depression era blues, jazz, and bluegrass with the raw storytelling spirit of early punk. Led by Matt, whose soulful voice anchors performances whether solo or with a rotating folk punk ensemble, the project has influenced the traveling community and earned a place in street-corner lore.

Jezebel Sweet + Fern Spores Duo + Victoria Fragoso at Spanish Ballroom

McMenamins presents a night at the Spanish Ballroom with performances by Jezebel Sweet, Fern Spores Duo, and Brittany Danielle. This all ages show offers tickets at $12 in advance or $15 on the day of the event. Jezebel Sweet brings an indie pop sound marked by alluring vocals, sharp wordplay, and a hint of mythic storytelling. Originally from Minnesota, she now leads a Minneapolis-based full band while also performing solo, shaping bright melodies over darker grooves. A singer, multi-instrumentalist, and dancer, she released her debut single Relentless in 2021, featuring Kim Se-Hwang, Dan Farrow, and orchestral players Jennifer Fagre-Golya and Hilary Smith, with album art photographed by Hamid Moslehi, Michael Jackson’s personal photographer for eight years. She appeared in the 2025 documentary Corey Feldman Vs. The World and toured nationally as a bassist and vocalist with Corey Feldman & The Angels. She has also performed with FRAKER, the experimental pop project led by Creighton Fraker of American Idol Season 11, and is recording a new EP while playing shows around Minneapolis and across the country. Fern Spores Duo channels the spirit of their Olympia roots with a blend of vintage psych folk, garage grit, clever reimaginings, and soulful Americana. Their songs mix empowerment with reflection, balancing angsty energy and uplifting moments, whimsy and fire, rock and roll. Drawing on influences like Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, and The Runaways, they pair classic textures with a contemporary lens. Fronted by singer-songwriters Alyssa Nunke and Jade Kovats, the all woman group released The Understory in 2024, has been crafting a follow-up titled The Thicket, and has tallied more than 200 performances across five states since forming in 2023. Brittany Danielle delivers a voice that nods to 60s and 70s pop, soul, and funk while staying fresh and direct, tackling tough themes with biting lyrics, memorable grooves, humor, and heart. After working through a restrictive upbringing at the piano and pursuing formal music study, she unveiled her first album Hindsight in 2022, including the tracks Fondly, Hindsight, and Ruin. Her second album Drive arrived in fall 2024 with singles What Did You Think (Would Happen), Drive, You Were Meant, and Runaway. Produced by Alex Keil of the Cory Wong band, the record features appearances by Jon Krietz, Kevin Gastonguay, Adam McPhail, and Peter Janjic. The lead single sets an empowered tone, speaking to friends who ask for the same advice again and again. Expect a varied evening that moves from shimmering indie pop to rootsy rock textures to soulful, lyrically charged songs, all under one roof at the Spanish Ballroom.

Hysteria (Def Leppard Tribute Band)

Airport Tavern Music Hall in Tacoma hosts a high-energy tribute night celebrating two pillars of rock. Hysteria delivers the signature Def Leppard sound with towering harmonies, searing guitar work, and a set built around arena-sized anthems. Expect favorites like "Pour Some Sugar on Me," "Photograph," "Rock of Ages," "Animal," "Love Bites," and "Hysteria." The lineup features seasoned touring and recording musicians focused on recreating the rush of a classic Def Leppard show. Opening the evening, Almost Human honors KISS with full makeup, costumes, swagger, and the larger-than-life spectacle that defined the band, serving up big hooks and plenty of showmanship. It is a full night of riffs, melodies, and fist-in-the-air rock and roll for fans of Def Leppard and KISS.

Workshops & Classes

Winter Birding

Learn about local birds that live here year-round and some that spend fall and winter in the Puget Sound area, retreating from northern climates such as the Alaskan and Canadian tundras. Discuss ways to help winter birds and the importance of preserving habitats and resources needed to survive the cold and rainy season. This program supports the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read program, Bewilderment by Richard Powers, and the Museum of Glass.
