Beading Beauties — Monthly Beadwork Circle

Organized by the Kittitas County Historical Museum in partnership with the Ellensburg School District Ichiskíin Sɨ́nwit ku Tiináwit Payúutmita (ESD Ichiskíin Language and Native American Culture Program), this monthly beadwork circle honors the artistry, history, and creativity found in beadwork while offering a friendly space for making and connection. Beadwork holds longstanding significance across the Columbia Plateau, with Indigenous communities including the Yakama, Umatilla, Klickitat, Nez Perce, K’tɨ́taas, and Pshwánapam conveying identity and stories through detailed designs, a living tradition carried forward by beaders and makers today. Participants of any experience level can bring projects, share techniques, and spend time creating in community. Please bring your own supplies, and refreshments are provided.

At Whipsaw Brewing, Lindsey from Blonde Dog 509 leads a hands-on handbag branding workshop where participants burn original designs into a new bag. Choose from Blonde Dog 509 designs or create a freehand design, then learn tracing techniques and how to use the burner before finishing with a custom fringe tassel. The workshop welcomes all skill levels and provides step-by-step guidance in a friendly setting. Each ticket includes a slouch or hobo style handbag measuring 13.8 x 9.4 x 4.3 inches, a makeup bag with a custom patch and fringe tassel zipper pull, access to multiple designs, and all tools and materials needed. The roomy tote fits everyday essentials like a phone, keys, makeup, wine, and more, making it a practical canvas for personalization. Open to ages 14 and up. Attendance is limited and a separate ticket is required for each person. Tickets are nonrefundable and nonexchangeable, and burn-shop ticket purchases of $50 plus sales tax are nonrefundable.

Naneum Work Party: TH 1

A weekly Tuesday trail work party at Naneum Ridge focuses on maintaining the Basalt Flow and Cooke Coleman Crest Trail. 2nd Annual Recycling Event

This community recycling day offers a convenient drop-off for a variety of materials and a chance to learn about curbside service and local recycling drop-off options. Accepted items include bicycles and bike tubes, which will be refurbished and returned to the community, single-stream recyclables such as plastic bottles and jugs, cardboard, paper, and clean food or beverage cans, as well as paper documents for secure shredding by Shred-It. Wildflower and Wind Power Walks: May 10

Explore the beauty of the shrub steppe in bloom at Wild Horse Renewable Energy Center. Morning and afternoon sessions feature a Wind Turbine Tour, a Wildflower and Wind Power presentation, and a guided Wildflower and Wind Power walk. RSVP is required with party size and your preference for morning or afternoon, as well as which parts you plan to attend, including the tour, presentation, and walk. Wildflower walks are also available midweek by appointment from late April through May. Wear sturdy closed toe shoes or boots and dress for both wind and sun, since spring conditions can be chilly. Bring water, snacks, a camera, hiking poles, or anything else you need to enjoy the walk. The walking portion covers less than a mile on rocky, uneven terrain and may not be suitable for all visitors.

A kid-focused pop choir prepares two songs for a community concert at the United Methodist Church, culminating in an appearance at the Valley Voices concert. Explore late season blooms such as bitterroot and buckwheat on an additional wildflower walk at the Wild Horse Renewable Energy Center. The experience pairs time among the flowers with wind power exploration, featuring two chances for a wind turbine tour, a presentation, and a wildflower walk at The Pines. RSVP is required. When reserving, include your party size and which tour or sessions you would like to attend. The event will only proceed if at least eight people sign up. Come prepared with sturdy closed toe footwear and layers for wind and sun, since spring conditions can still feel cool. Bring water, snacks, a camera, hiking poles, or anything else you need to stay comfortable. The walking distance is under a mile, but the route includes rocky, uneven ground and may not suit all visitors. Plan to drive on a gravel road to reach the hike location.

Roslyn Vintage Trailer Rally 2026

A vintage trailer rally at Roslyn Pioneer Park brings campers together for a relaxed gathering in the Cascade Mountains. Dave and Heather May are the new hosts. The setting is Roslyn, a historic coal-mining town that became an incorporated community in 1886 in central Washington’s sunshine. Coal from the area once powered Northern Pacific Railroad trains during construction and the early years of the route through the Cascades. Situated roughly 80 miles east of Seattle and not far from Interstate 90, the town offers a scenic backdrop for enthusiasts to park their vintage trailers and connect with fellow fans.

Fog Holler

Fog Holler draws on influences from The Stanley Brothers and Buck Owens to Meshuggah, bringing fresh energy to traditions like the murder ballad and the power waltz. Two-time Grammy winner Cathy Fink has praised the group as a new generation pushing bluegrass forward. Their shows pair engaging songs with a coordinated look, attracting dedicated bluegrass listeners and first-time fans alike. Burgers and drinks will be available from Kittitas Cafe. Admission is free for all ages with support from community sponsors.

2026 Top Hand Competition

At the IUOE Local 302/612 Operating Engineers Training Center, the Top Hand Competition features professional union operators going head to head on a variety of heavy equipment and cranes. Spectators of all ages can watch the action and also get hands-on time with excavators, cranes, and simulators. A big kids area includes inflatables, sandboxes, toys, games, crafts, a hay hunt, pinatas, and more. Vendors will be serving lunch and snacks throughout the day. Competition runs all day, with Top Hand winners announced at the end and an introduction of the new 2026 entry level apprentices.

The Stories We Share — A Community Fundraiser for the Museum

The Stories We Share is the Kittitas County Historical Society’s annual community fundraiser for the Museum, hosted at The Ridge Encore in historic Downtown Ellensburg. This warm gathering brings together neighbors, local businesses, and friends of the Museum to celebrate the stories that shape Kittitas County, past and present. Guests can connect over a shared meal while supporting the work of preserving local history, heritage, and everyday moments that make this place home. The evening features dinner, a live and silent auction, and a lively Dessert Dash, along with chances to learn more about the Museum’s collections and programs and the impact of community support. Tickets are $75 per person through the online box office. Additional support can be offered through event sponsorships, silent auction donations, and financial or in-kind contributions. Many sponsorship levels include tickets and recognition, and every contribution helps ensure Kittitas County’s stories continue to be cared for and shared. Expect an evening of good company, shared stories, and community connection.
