Beginner Line Dancing Lessons

Better in Boots leads a lively, beginner-friendly line dancing session at the Senior Center in South Burlington. This six-week series introduces new routines each week at a comfortable pace. Steps are broken down clearly, practiced without music, then set to songs, and prior dances are reviewed to build confidence over time. Registration is handled through SB parks and recreation. If you would like to try a class or cannot commit to the full series, drop-ins are welcome for $10 cash per class at the door. The evening features simple warmups, guided instruction, and later an open dance period with all-request music. No experience is needed. Boots are not required, and any comfortable footwear is fine. Please bring a clean, dry pair of shoes to change into, since outside or wet shoes are not allowed on the dance floor. Bring water or another hydrating drink, and note that alcohol is not permitted. Opus 40

Creativity from across the Green Mountains takes center stage as Music-COMP presents the OPUS 40 concert, highlighting brand-new pieces by student composers. Professional musicians will premiere 21 works by students in grades 4 through 12, marking more than three decades of composition education in Vermont. Over the past few months, 26 students worked one on one with composer mentors to shape and finalize their scores for combinations of strings, woodwinds, and piano, each piece reflecting the composer’s individual voice. The acclaimed chamber ensemble TURNmusic, led by Anne Decker, will perform the premieres. In preparation, the student composers rehearse with their performers and take part in workshops with special guest presenters, building toward this culminating performance at the Elley Long Music Center. Al Olender

This is an all ages event with songwriter Al Olender, an artist who writes to hold on to the moments that slip by. Her second full-length album, The Worrier, lingers on change, anxiety, love, and the urge to stay present, inviting listeners to mourn what passes and to shout into the void. It follows her 2022 debut, Easy Crier, where she faced loss with unguarded honesty and strengthened her connections. After years of solo touring and opening for Bonny Light Horseman, Langhorne Slim, Rayland Baxter, John Moreland, Shovels & Rope, Deer Tick, and Lucius, she channels that experience into songs written on the move and recorded quickly with producer Nick Kinsey at Chicken Shack Recording. Captured live to tape with friends sharing one room, the recordings preserve the human details. Her stories trace first crush butterflies, headlong desire, and the evolving shape of friendship, while holding space for worry as well as the beauty and luck she recognizes in her life.

Low Gap & Brendan Walter

Open to all ages, this show brings together Low Gap and Brendan Walter. Low Gap, led by brothers Gus and Phin Johnson, has spent the past year and a half in constant motion, stacking up hundreds of performances and a run of singles. They recently released their debut album, Geneva, as they look toward a breakthrough in 2026. With roots in Ohio and eastern Kentucky, the duo performs with a five-piece band and blends 90s alt-country and Americana with a modern country sensibility. Carefully crafted songs and an energetic stage presence have connected them with wide audiences while drawing attention from critics across today’s country scene. Texas-born Brendan Walter moved from semi-pro hockey to songwriting and built a rugged mix of country, indie folk, and alternative. After collaborating with Low Gap on “If a Song Could Change Your Mind,” followed by “Asking for a Friend” and “Pipe Dream,” he signed a record deal in 2025 and released his debut album Disappearing Days, a coming-of-age collection. He has toured with Wyatt Flores, Evan Honer, and 49 Winchester and is now stepping into headlining sets with bittersweet songs.

The Art & Science of Yoga Nidra

Experience a weekend immersion in Yoga Nidra at The Sanctuary at the Chase Mill in Burlington, Vermont, centered on the art of conscious rest and its capacity to support relaxation, healing, creativity, and insight. Through embodied practice, study, and guided teaching experience, participants learn what Yoga Nidra is and how it fits within the broader path of Yoga, explore the kleshas and the deeper aims of practice, trace the history and modern pioneers of this method, and examine the science of brainwaves, nervous system regulation, and states of consciousness. The training also covers the energetic anatomy of the koshas and prana vayus, the psychology underlying each stage of the practice, the qualities of embodied presence and holding space, and how to thoughtfully structure and articulate a complete Yoga Nidra session. The curriculum blends guided practice with lectures, discussion, and optional practice teaching with feedback, offering a balance of experiential depth and practical application. It is beneficial even for those who do not intend to teach, there are no prerequisites, and participants may attend the sessions that best suit their needs. The setting is warm and quiet, creating an atmosphere that supports deep practice and personal renewal. This training serves yoga teachers seeking continuing education or specialty certification, wellness professionals, therapists, coaches, and anyone wishing to deepen understanding of rest, awareness, and consciousness. No previous teacher training is required, and all are welcome. Participants receive a comprehensive manual, four professionally recorded Yoga Nidra practices, a live follow-up Q&A and mentorship session via Zoom, and a certificate of completion that is eligible for continuing education hours with Yoga Alliance. Upon completion of all course requirements, a 25-hour Yoga Nidra Teacher Training Certificate through Sukha Yoga School is awarded, eligible for Yoga Alliance Continuing Education credits for YA certified teachers. Tuition options include a special launch rate at 495 dollars for the first four registrants, an early bird rate at 550 dollars, and a regular rate at 625 dollars. Payment plans are available upon request. Vermont residents may use VSAC Advancement grants to cover tuition and supplies up to 2,500 dollars if eligibility requirements are met. Those who are not grant-eligible and are experiencing financial hardship may inquire about a teacher’s assistant discount. Space is limited to support an intimate and personalized experience. The training is led by Priscilla Rybicki of Sukha Yoga School, a longtime yoga teacher and certified massage therapist with a background in psychology from the University of Vermont and more than 800 hours of advanced yoga study, including extensive training in the Tantric Hatha and Bhakti traditions. She holds multiple Yoga Nidra certifications and has additional study in Yin Yoga, Ayurveda, Marma Point Therapy, and Tantric meditation. As the founder of Sukha Yoga School in Burlington, she has led 200- and 300-hour teacher trainings locally and internationally, weaving traditional yogic wisdom, modern psychology, and an experiential understanding of the nervous system into her approach.

Bella White

This all ages performance features Calgary-born singer and songwriter Bella White, whose sound reaches beyond bluegrass into a moodier, more daring blend of folk and Americana shaped by her time in New Orleans’ indie rock community. She has toured in support of her widely praised album Among Other Things and has shared bills with Dierks Bentley, Tyler Childers, and The Red Clay Strays. Her third album, A Sign In The Weather, was co-produced with Ross Farbe and created with a tight circle of collaborators, resulting in an intimate, homespun feel that spotlights her distinctive voice and graceful guitar work. Contributors on the record include Patrick M’Gonigle, Sam Gelband, Gina Leslie, Nick Corson, Maddy Kirgo, Duncan Troast, and pedal steel player Nikolai Shveitser, with Farbe adding guitar, percussion, organ, and synth. The songs reflect a time of major change, channeling poetic introspection and raw immediacy. White’s writing has earned praise from outlets such as Rolling Stone and NPR, and her catalog now spans from her 2021 debut Just Like Leaving to her latest release. Themes of transition, accountability, anxiety, and authenticity run through songs like Little Things, Stuff, Dream Song, False Start, All My Friends, and Pink Living Room, capturing the push and pull of letting go, moving forward, and finding calm. Raised on classic country and old-time music by her Virginia-born bluegrass musician father, and playing guitar since she was eight, she brings deep roots and a renewed creative spark to the stage. This event is open to all ages.

Spring Concert

Aurora Chamber Singers brings a spring program to College Street Congregational Church centered on sacred choral music, pairing Palestrina’s Missa Brevis with Handel’s Dixit Dominus. Written more than a century apart, the two works set sacred texts in strikingly different ways, one shaped by the lucid textures of Renaissance polyphony, the other energized by the dramatic style of the Baroque. The concert also includes Vittoria Aleotti’s Hor che la Vaga Aurora, a madrigal about the dawn, rounding out a program that traces how composers across eras draw inspiration from sacred words and the first light of day.

May Beginning Swing

Instructors Juliana and Brad lead a welcoming beginner swing class focused on the essentials. Participants learn 6-count footwork, build a comfortable lead and follow connection, and practice clear partner communication on the dance floor. It is suitable for brand-new dancers as well as those with a little experience, and no partner is required. Each month introduces a fresh set of moves in the Beginning Swing series, so returning dancers can continue growing skills and confidence. This is a series class, and attendees are encouraged to participate throughout the month. The class fee includes complimentary entry to a practice dance immediately afterward, offering time to try out new material with music. Plan to arrive a little early to allow for parking and changing shoes. Please bring clean shoes that will not track in grit or leave black heel marks. Parking is limited, so expect to use nearby street parking and walk to North Star Hall.

May Lindy 1

Explore the heartbeat of Lindy Hop in a month-long series centered on two cornerstone moves, the Swing Out and the Circle. Instructors Luc and Olya will guide dancers through technique, rhythm, and the joyful energy that brings these classics to life. Strengthen your 8-count footwork while developing the connection, momentum, and flow that make swing outs feel exhilarating, whether you are refining what you know or learning these patterns for the first time. The series is designed to build confidence and sharpen skills, and many dancers benefit from taking it more than once, discovering new insights and deeper refinement with each round. Even experienced Lindy Hoppers use it to fine-tune fundamentals and reconnect with the roots of the dance. Prerequisite experience includes approximately 2 to 5 months of beginning swing or instructor approval, comfort with triple steps and basic partner connection, and familiarity with moves such as the underarm pass or tuck turn. The class runs every Tuesday as a cohesive series, and attending the full month is recommended. The class fee includes admission to a practice dance right after class for additional time to apply new material. Please allow extra time for parking and changing shoes, bring clean shoes that will not track in grit or leave black heel marks, and plan for limited parking with nearby street options and a short walk to the hall. If you are unsure about level placement, speak with a Vermont Swings instructor at any event or email contact@vermontswings.com.

Their debut, Grow Up, quickly earned attention in their hometown, followed by a 2021 signing to LA’s Get Better Records and the full-length Loudmouth, which pushed beyond indie pop and alt rock into sharper territory. Burnout kept a playful streak while leaning harder into themes of betrayal and teen turmoil, reflecting a more fractured world. Their fourth record, HELLHOUND, drops the guard almost entirely, with a brief wink in the title interlude before a barrage of songs fueled by deceit, revenge, frustration, and venom from start to finish. Produced by Martin Cooke, whose credits include work with Death Cab For Cutie, Of Monsters And Men, and Destroy Boys, the album pulls from vintage punk, classic metal, and everything in between. The first single targets disrespect without softening its blows, and another track turns that fury inward. Beyond the music, the band backs causes such as gender equality, abortion rights, Indigenous arts, and refugee support by directing funds to these efforts. This event is all ages.

King Tuff

This event is all ages. King Tuff brings a raw, joyful return to rock and roll shaped by MOO, a new album recorded on the same Tascam 388 tape machine he used early on. After exploring different sounds with Smalltown Stardust and The Other, he leans back into loud guitars, unpolished takes, and an alive, tape-driven feel. The songs center on love in many forms, with vivid moments that touch on an overnight train ride, raccoons, an oil change, the realities of the music industry, and daydreams of fame that do not match real life. Made in Los Angeles during a time that led to a move back to Vermont, this chapter reconnects past and present and lets volume, grit, and spirit lead.

Pingolf Season 26

This league runs for six weeks of regular play, with four games each week. Standings are determined by comparing each player’s best four weeks against everyone else’s best four, using pingolf scoring throughout. When the regular season ends, the top 16 players move on to finals and the next 16 compete in a B Division that is not IFPA sanctioned. Finals use matchplay groups with pingolf scoring, and in each round the top two players in every group advance. The highest seed in each group selects the games and the order of play, but the same game cannot be chosen more than once across the finals. There is also a team competition. After eight weeks, the four leading teams face off in their own finals, planned for the same day as the individual playoffs.

Quinn Sullivan

Open to all ages, this concert spotlights Quinn Sullivan, a 26 year old singer, songwriter, and guitarist who first came to national attention in the early 2000s. Raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts in a home filled with classic rock, jazz, and blues, he fell in love with The Beatles, a spark that set him on a musical path. He picked up a guitar at age three and soon appeared on major television programs including The Tonight Show, Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel, and Conan O’Brien. In 2007 he crossed paths with Buddy Guy, who brought him onstage and later welcomed him on tour and in the studio across the following decade. Over time he has grown from rising prodigy to a deeply expressive artist, weaving blues, rock, and classic influences into his sound. His catalog spans several albums, with his fifth, Salvation, standing out as his most personal to date, delving into loss, love, and resilience. Both his virtuosic playing and thoughtful songwriting reflect his roots and life experiences. That journey shapes the stage, where themes of love, hardship, and redemption come through with sincerity and drive, creating a performance that feels intimate and full of energy.

Trousdale

An all-ages performance featuring Trousdale, the harmony-driven trio of Quinn D’Andrea, Georgia Greene, and Lauren Jones. Their set centers on Growing Pains, a new album that explores change, exhaustion, courage, and matters of the heart, finding strength in shared voices and friendship. The title track sparks with electric guitar and elastic bass, and the group’s stacked harmonies carry a message of pushing through burnout and discovering beauty together. Largely recorded live and co-produced with John Mark Nelson, the project favors feel and cohesion over perfection. Nelson has co-written and produced for Suki Waterhouse and Shaboozey and engineered for Taylor Swift and Mitski. Building on the acclaim for Out of My Mind, the band sharpened their blend of indie pop and country by sketching ideas individually, then finishing them in the room together. Co-writers such as Mags Duval and Adam widened the lens, and Nelson helped them focus on the album as a whole. Secondhand Smoke inhabits the story of abuse with a chilling calm, while Over and Over captures the swirl of emotions that come with running into an ex, shifting between close-knit harmonies and standout leads. Their country colors glow through Lonely Night, which nods to LeAnn Rimes, and Want Me Back, inspired by Lady A. Across a dozen songs, Trousdale confronts loneliness, heartbreak, and loss, transforming hard seasons into uplifting, restorative music. The journey closes with Last Bloom, a reminder that after the coldest moments, something new can grow.

The 2022 follow-up Here Comes Everybody entered at number one in Australia, and the band became Triple J’s most played act that year. In 2025 they returned with their third album, If That Makes Sense, produced by Mike Crossey, known for work with Arctic Monkeys, Wolf Alice, and The 1975, and embarked on a major run across Australia, New Zealand, North America, Europe, and the UK. Mt. Joy brings its indie rock sound to the Midway Lawn at Champlain Valley Expo. The Philadelphia-born five piece features Matt Quinn on vocals and guitar, Sam Cooper on guitar, Jackie Miclau on keys and piano, Sotiris Eliopoulos on drums, and Michael Byrnes on bass. After years of touring and releasing the albums Mt. Joy, Rearrange Us, and Orange Blood, the band has built a powerful live reputation. Highlights include sellouts at New York’s Madison Square Garden, The Greek Theater in Los Angeles, and Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, along with a headlining run across North America and Europe that spanned seventy shows and moved more than 180,000 tickets. Their fourth EP, Hope We Have Fun, continued that momentum with packed arenas such as Boston’s TD Garden and Forest Hills Stadium in New York, a record-setting night at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre in Denver, and festival appearances at Governors Ball and Newport Folk Festival. The release reflects the group’s long road together, touching on relationships, the push and pull of constant travel, and moments of joy, with soulful vocals over rootsy, intricate instrumentals. Jesse Taylor Band

An all ages night features the Jesse Taylor Band, led by singer and songwriter Jesse Taylor, whose work leans into honesty, vulnerability, and deep personal reflection. A Maine native who has called Vermont home for more than a decade, she began her musical path in 2015 after leaving dental hygiene school, drawing on experiences in the service industry and on living with depression, anxiety, and ADHD to turn songwriting into a vital outlet. The band took shape in 2017 and, since 2019, has included Nick Treis on lead guitar and Ian Greenman on bass, with Carlton Yost joining on drums in 2022. Their sound blends the grit of classic rock with the warmth of modern folk, threaded with a strong 90s alt-rock influence. After an EP in 2021 and several singles, the group looks ahead to celebrating its first full-length, Feel Everything, slated for late spring 2026. Also on the bill, The Leatherbound Books push a pop-forward indie rock sound that grows louder and more electrified as they leave earlier folk roots behind. This Burlington, Vermont trio leans into big, distorted textures and catchy melodies. The Eyetraps formed when singers and guitarists Alex Frantz and Zack Shafer moved from Ohio to Vermont and teamed up with bassist Phil Smith and drummer Sophie Powell. Their self-titled debut EP channels 90s grunge and contemporary indie with thick guitars, raw vocals, and stacked harmonies that wrestle with regret, loss, and self-deception, and it arrived in August 2025.

This broad history feeds a style that moves freely across ideas while refusing to be defined by any single approach. Formed in Chicago, the lineup features Jeff Parker, Dan Bitney, Douglas McCombs, John Herndon, and John McEntire. Since 1990 they have released seven albums, with landmarks like Millions Now Living Will Never Die, TNT, and Standards marking distinct phases in a steady, intuitive evolution. Vermont’s Iron Maiden tribute, Made In Iron, formed in early 2006 when friends from hard rocking VT bands including 5 Seconds Expired, Amadis, Arkain, and The Concrete Rivals joined forces, debuting on 6/6/06. After many successful performances, with the most recent in 2021, they return to mark 20 years of Made In Iron and 50 years of Iron Maiden’s music. The set highlights songs from the first eight Maiden albums with a special focus on the 80s era, delivered with high energy and tight precision while keeping the mood fun. Classics, epics, and deep cuts fill the night, packed with moments made for singing along and plenty of headbanging.
