The CamelRoots and Grains RVA Grower-Buyer Social
At Studio Two Three, vegetable and grain growers connect directly with the buyers who keep Virginia’s food and grain economy moving. Designed for farms that are organic or considering the transition, and for those looking to scale or tap new market outlets, this social bridges on-farm production with real purchasing needs. The program opens with a buyer panel featuring perspectives from distilling and milling, plus diversified vegetable buying for grocery, food hubs, and wholesale. Panelists include Evrim Dogu of Sub Rosa Bakery and Shelley Sackier of Reservoir Distillery and the Virginia Heritage Grain Project, a board member of Common Grain Alliance. They outline what they look for, the standards and logistics required to sell into their operations, and practical first steps for entering distilleries, mills, groceries, and regional supply chains. After the discussion, the event shifts into an open-floor mixer with food and drink, giving producers time to speak with buyers face to face. All farmers are welcome. The emphasis is on organic production, straightforward conversation, and useful connections, and no pitch decks are needed. Presented by Shalom Farms, the Virginia Association for Biological Farming, Rodale Institute, and Common Grain Alliance.

Sarah Glenn Marsh returns for an in-store conversation with Sara Raasch about her new novel, Our Rogue Fates. The book follows former best friends Griff Sayer and Mal Pryce, now at odds, who are swept back into each other’s lives after a job Mal arranged leaves Griff badly hurt and their childhood friend Alys steps in to help. To secure his freedom and protect Griff, Mal accepts a four-week ultimatum to recover an ancient prize hidden in Rotrose Mire, a perilous swamp tied to the disappearance of Alys’s father, Rhun. Guided by Rhun’s map and a broken blade, Mal heads out with Alys and a reluctant, newly single Griff. Along the way they face eerie threats and monstrous dangers, rebuild trust as old feelings resurface, and realize a mysterious figure is tailing them with loyalties to neither their parents’ adversaries nor to would-be heroes. The result is a second-chance, spicy Achillean romance with the adventurous feel of tabletop questing, a fit for fans of Critical Role. Marsh is a devoted fantasy reader whose work spans picture books, middle grade, and young adult, and this novel marks her adult debut. She lives in Richmond, Virginia with her family and a lively collection of pets, including a turtle named Muffin. Capital Ale HouseTRR Fredericksburg - Biweekly Richmond Lower James Intermediate Sessions
TRR Richmond hosts intermediate paddling sessions on the Lower James for Veterans, geared toward Class III whitewater. Participants must register at least 24 hours in advance, and anyone who has not previously paddled this stretch with the organizers needs a skills clearance before taking part. Beginners with their own equipment can coordinate with the point of contact about possible future runs on the Upper James. Plans are dependent on river conditions. If levels exceed 6 feet, the outing will move to the Upper James and that update will be posted on the Facebook page. If storms are forecast during the session window, the session will be canceled with notice shared there. The trip point of contact makes final decisions on location and whether to proceed, considering weather, water levels and temperatures, and the abilities of participating Veterans. Bring your own gear. Paddlers are expected to be comfortable with ferry moves, catching eddies, edging, and a reliable combat roll suitable for Class III water. If equipment is needed, it must be arranged in advance with TRR Fredericksburg since nothing is staged at the Richmond meeting spot. Meet at the takeout to set a shuttle and arrive dressed and ready. Participants are asked to notify the organizer at least 24 hours ahead and, if new to paddling the Lower James with Pam, include the rivers and levels previously paddled and whether a combat roll is reliable.

Dominion Energy Center for the Performing ArtsSicard Hollow
Sicard Hollow brings a punk-infused, psychedelic take on bluegrass to The Camel. The Nashville quartet grew out of spontaneous jams in 2018, with violinist Matt Rennick arriving from electronic music, Will Herrin moving from rock guitar to mandolin and vocals, and Alex King stepping into guitar and vocals, then locking in their lineup when bassist Parrish Gabriel joined in 2019. Rejecting rigid rules, they shaped a sound that blends pop punk hooks, exploratory instrumental passages, and reflective songwriting within a string-band setting. When the release tour for their debut album, Secret of the Breeze, was canceled during the pandemic, the band used the pause to refine its identity in the studio alongside producer John Mailander and engineer Dan Davis. After years of appearances at festivals like Peach, Summer Camp, CaveFest at the Caverns, WinterWonderGrass, Blue Ox, and Hillberry, and support slots with the Infamous Stringdusters, Leftover Salmon, Eggy, Sam Bush, Kitchen Dwellers, Dogs in a Pile, Dopapod, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, and Yonder Mountain String Band, their live show reflects a road-honed mix of grit, momentum, and adventurous musicianship.

American Football brings its intricate, emotionally searching sound to The National alongside IAN SWEET. Their earliest album became a lasting touchstone for listeners well beyond the band’s beginnings, and their expanded catalog carries that legacy forward with a fuller, more confident approach. Bass now deepens the arrangements, and the multi-instrumental work of Mike and Nate Kinsella fuels performances that land every subtle shift with assurance. The set blends breezy shuffles and precise, quick rhythms with sweeping guitar figures built from arpeggios and harmonics, and drum fills that feel measured yet driving. The music maintains a cohesive mood while showcasing vivid details, from the swagger of Born to Lose, to a handclap-centered break and Phil Collins-inspired fills in I’ve Been Lost For So Long, to the 80s pop sheen of Desire Gets in the Way, and a bridge that briefly takes center stage in Instincts are The Enemy. The songs explore the tension between meeting the expectations of adulthood and holding onto honest self-expression, returning to familiar spaces with a more reflective gaze. All ages are welcome.
