America's Shipyard: 10 Ships That Shaped A Nation Exhibit

In honor of the nation’s 250th anniversary, America’s Shipyard, a new Sail Virginia 2026 exhibit, spotlights the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and its lasting influence on American history. Trace the story from the Western Hemisphere’s first dry dock to innovative vessels that reshaped naval warfare, showing how the yard has anchored national defense for more than two centuries. The showcase centers on ten landmark ships built, repaired, or modernized there, each connected to a notable first, a breakthrough, or a turning point in U.S. naval history. It also highlights generations of skilled shipyard workers whose craftsmanship shaped Portsmouth, Hampton Roads, and the nation, and it shows how the shipyard is still making history today.

Special Exhibit: Celebrating 100 Years of Black History Month

This special exhibit explores how African American history has been remembered, safeguarded, and shared over the last century, and explains why that work remains urgent today. It traces how Black History Month began while widening the lens to show how communities honor the past through landmarks, traditions, and cultural celebrations, with examples that include Hampton University’s Emancipation Oak, Juneteenth, and the Umoja Festival. At a moment when Black history faces renewed challenges, the exhibit underscores Portsmouth’s commitment to preserving, sharing, and elevating Black voices. Dancing Mindfulness with Kristi Ann

Explore conscious movement and meditation in a welcoming class with Kristi Ann at The Holistic Treehouse. This Dancing Mindfulness session blends free form dance with guided meditation in a community setting, inviting participants of any body type or skill level to move without concern for choreography or performance. Inspired by the work of Dr. Jamie Marich, a clinical counselor and traumatic stress expert, the practice centers on seven elements that support awareness and expression... breath, sound, body, mind, spirit, story, and fusion. Attendees cultivate present moment attention and the attitudes of mindfulness such as nonjudgment, patience, beginner’s mind, nonstriving, trust, acceptance, and letting go. The experience includes noticing the rhythms of breath and heartbeat, finding healing potential in simple movements, traveling through a three phase musical journey, expressing personal stories through dance, and connecting with others in a supportive environment. Kristi Ann, MS CMHC, is an integrative wellness coach who weaves training in mysticism, spiritual philosophies, expressive and intuitive arts, and energy work with formal education in clinical mental health counseling and psychology. She earned her Dancing Mindfulness Facilitator certification with the Mindful Journey Center in April 2026 and emphasizes living an extraordinary life one embodied moment at a time while honoring what is sacred in everyday experience. The cost is $22.

Mental Health & Wellness Educational Workshop by The Hormonal Therapist

Discover how monthly hormonal shifts shape mood, energy, focus, stress response, sleep, motivation, and overall well-being in a supportive, educational setting. This workshop explains the four phases of the menstrual cycle and details how changes in estrogen and progesterone can influence mental health, including anxiety, irritability, and emotional resilience. Participants will build a clearer picture of what is happening in their bodies throughout the month and learn practical ways to work with their cycle rather than against it. The session is designed for people who menstruate, as well as partners, family members, and professionals who want a deeper understanding of the connection between hormones and mental health. Expect evidence-based guidance presented in a judgment-free environment. Attendees can expect to leave with an understanding of the cycle’s phases and what commonly occurs during each, insight into how key hormones interact with the brain, perspective on typical emotional patterns across the month, clarity on how to distinguish everyday changes from conditions such as PMS and PMDD, and useful methods for tracking symptoms, supporting emotional wellness, and strengthening self-awareness. The workshop is led by Emalee Zingher, LPC, a trauma-informed therapist and educator known as The Hormonal Therapist, who integrates neuroscience, holistic care, and practical strategies to bridge hormones and mental health. Tickets are $17. This program provides psychoeducation on mental health, hormones, and wellness. It is not therapy, counseling, medical care, diagnosis, or treatment, and attending does not establish a therapist-client relationship. The information shared is for awareness and learning, and it should not replace personalized guidance from a licensed healthcare provider. Anyone with concerns about mental health, physical health, medications, or hormonal symptoms should consult a qualified professional.

Dancing Mindfulness with Kristi Ann

Dancing Mindfulness with Kristi Ann at The Holistic Treehouse invites participants to tap into the body’s innate capacity for healing through conscious movement and meditation. This expressive arts practice blends free-form dance with guided mindfulness in a supportive group setting shaped by shared somatic themes. Inspired by the work of Dr. Jamie Marich, a clinician known for expertise in traumatic stress, the approach explores seven core elements, from breath, sound, and the body to mind, spirit, personal story, and integrative fusion. Grounded in trauma awareness, the class welcomes all bodies and experience levels, with no choreography to memorize and no emphasis on performance. Expect to cultivate present-moment attention, embody the seven attitudes of mindfulness such as nonjudgment, patience, beginner’s mind, nonstriving, trust, acceptance, and letting go, and attune to the natural rhythms of breath and pulse. Participants will notice how simple movements can be restorative, travel through a three-part music-guided journey, express personal narratives through dance, and enjoy meaningful connection with others. The session is led by Kristi Ann, MS-CMHC, an integrative wellness coach who blends training in mysticism, spiritual philosophies, expressive and intuitive arts, and energy work with academic grounding in clinical mental health counseling and psychology. She is a certified Dancing Mindfulness Facilitator through the Mindful Journey Center. The energy exchange for this class is $22.

Trance Mediumship Development Circle

At The Holistic Treehouse, this development circle centers on trance channeling and mediumship under the guidance of Jennifer Williams. It takes place in a small, intentionally chosen room that helps focus the atmosphere and invites a receptive state. Participants also have the opportunity to step into a tent known as a mediumship cabinet, used to gather and amplify spiritual energy so a deeper openness to channeling, healing, and connection can emerge. Sessions are held with the lights off to soften the physical senses and enliven inner awareness, which can clarify sensitivity to energy, presence, and intuitive guidance. The circle welcomes those who are just starting, seasoned practitioners, and anyone who prefers to witness. Jennifer offers steady guidance to help participants recognize the sensations of trance, notice how communication moves through the body, and open to messages or healing energy in a supportive way. Each gathering blends instruction, practice, receiving, and observing others in their unfolding. The intention is to build confidence, deepen trust, and cultivate a sense of community while exploring connection beyond the physical world. July 4th "Red, White and Blue" Free Concert

A concert unveils a new work that honors the American Revolution by bringing to life the real story of Susana Bolling. The narrative recounts how this teenager is said to have traveled under cover of night to warn the Marquis de Lafayette of a move by Cornwallis, a message credited with protecting Lafayette and contributing to the victory at Yorktown and, ultimately, the war’s outcome. Created by Virginia Beach playwright Gary Spell, the production features a full concert band alongside five teen performers who tell the tale through song. A fireworks show in Virginia Beach caps the celebration. Admission is free to the public, courtesy of IMGOING, the City of Virginia Beach, and the Tidewater Winds Concert Band.
