Houston LEAD Conroe Chapter Meeting

This weekly gathering brings together the Houston LEAD Conroe chapter at Monarca Bar and Grill - Conroe. The chapter is expanding in Conroe and is welcoming one professional per industry, with priority for IT and technology services, health insurance, banking and financial services, and noncompeting small business specialties. Ideal participants are business owners or key decision-makers who are growth minded, relationship focused, and active in their business and community. The culture emphasizes consistent participation, purposeful relationship building with a peer advisory approach, exchanging referrals, and ongoing professional development. Networking is treated as collaboration rather than a transaction, and the environment is referral based, where trust and relationships come before sales. Membership is by interview and approval to ensure a strong fit.

Potato Gumbo Presented by The Players Theatre Company

Potato Gumbo, a play by Jean Ciampi, offers a tender yet spirited look at the realities of aging. It follows Gretchen and Thomas through a cherished dream that may involve a questionably acquired pair of handcuffs, a life-altering diagnosis, and adult children learning how to care for the people who once cared for them. A sought-after recipe at the New Orleans School of Cooking lures Gretchen into hatching fanciful plans that pull Thomas along. When a spur-of-the-moment road trip ends with a police escort home, deeper concerns start to simmer... is Gretchen’s playfulness masking cognitive decline, how much can an aging heart withstand, and where is the line between loving care and taking control? This production is staged through a special arrangement with Next Stage Press, LLC. Support is provided by Acme Consulting, with partial funding from the City of Conroe Arts & Culture Grant, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Texas Commission on the Arts.

Understanding OCD - A Community OCD Awareness Group

Hosted by OCD & Anxiety of The Woodlands, PLLC, this community education program focuses on clearer understanding and earlier recognition of obsessive compulsive disorder. It is geared toward mental health and medical providers, educators, families, people with lived experience, and community partners. Attendees can expect a clinician guided overview of OCD, discussion of research supported treatments, insights from someone with personal experience, an interactive question and answer segment, and connections to local resources. Organizations also have the option to participate as a Community Supporter with a $250 contribution. Supporters are acknowledged with logo placement in a digital resource guide, on materials and slides, recognition on social media, the opportunity to host a resource table, and designation as a Community Mental Health Supporter. Understanding OCD: A Community Event

This event is designed to be more than an awareness or networking opportunity. It serves as a community-level educational experience focused on closing the clinical and systemic gaps that contribute to delayed or missed OCD diagnoses. Educators, primary care providers, pediatricians, OB-GYNs, mental health professionals, and other frontline providers are often the first to notice early signs of OCD across the lifespan. By bringing together cross-disciplinary professionals and families, this event aims to reduce diagnostic delays, prevent misdiagnosis, and improve long-term outcomes through earlier, more accurate intervention at the community level. Come hang out and learn cool stuff about OCD with others who get it in a chill, welcoming vibe.

Potato Gumbo

Jean Ciampi’s Potato Gumbo blends warmth and offbeat humor in a family story about growing older and the choices that come with it. Gretchen and Thomas pursue a cooking dream linked to the New Orleans School of Cooking, a plan that entangles a pair of questionably acquired handcuffs and a diagnosis that reshapes their world. An impulsive road trip culminates with a return under police watch, and the fallout raises hard questions. Are Gretchen’s spontaneous ideas signs of declining memory or something more serious? How much can a weary heart bear, and when do adult children shift from caring to taking control? This production is staged through a special arrangement with Next Stage Press, LLC. Support comes from Acme Consulting, with partial funding from the City of Conroe Arts & Culture Grant, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Texas Commission on the Arts.

How the Viola Gained Its Voice

Ethos Chamber Players closes its Spring 2026 season with How The Viola Gained Its Voice, created with ConTempo Studios to trace how the viola moved from a supporting role to a compelling solo presence. Blending performance with brief commentary, the program follows that shift through original works and transcriptions, illuminating the instrument’s intimate tone and its growth into a rich, expressive voice. Featured performers include violists Konrad Rudowicz and Merit Rogge with pianists Alona Khoptynets and Khoren Ouzounian. The repertoire includes Franz Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata in A minor, D. 821, I. Allegro moderato, Max Bruch’s Romance, Op. 85, Frank Bridge’s Lament, Rebecca Clarke’s Passacaglia on an Old English Tune and Morpheus, selections from Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet including Dance of the Knights and the Balcony Scene, and Arvo Pärt’s Spiegel im Spiegel arranged for two violas. The experience extends beyond music with visual art by Alejandra Molina Fuentes and optional interactive elements that add another layer to the presentation. Presented as part of the Ethos Chamber Players Concert Series, a new chamber initiative in the Magnolia and The Woodlands community launched through the Ethos School of the Arts, the series emphasizes close-up listening in a scenic, tree-lined setting. ConTempo Studios partners as an interdisciplinary arts nonprofit that brings together live music and diverse art forms, aiming for accessibility, inclusion, and space for artists to experiment.

Book Signing: David Welling

Local author David Welling appears for a book signing centered on The Horror of Northanger Abbey, a reimagining of Jane Austen’s classic. Framed as a fictional early edition newly brought to light, the book transforms the original satire into a tale of supernatural terror, suggesting a version in which uncanny elements once existed before being removed for publication. Welling’s adaptation blends Austen’s romantic vision with the dark mythos associated with writers like H. P. Lovecraft and August Derleth, creating a literary horror mashup aimed at readers who enjoy both Austen’s world and early chillers.

Dustin Perkins – Live at The Table at Madeley!

After ten years in the mountains of southeast Oklahoma, Dustin Perkins returns with a new album and an energized show at The Table at Madeley in Conroe. Born in Bells, Texas, he channels the work ethic of his stone-mason father and the musical legacy of his mother into vivid Americana storytelling marked by grit and heart. When he is not performing, he runs a mobile sawmill and a custom door shop by the Kiamichi River, crafting wood with the same soulful care he brings to his songs. This performance highlights a new chapter for a Texas artist whose songs are built on authenticity and craft.

Encaustic Workshop with Melanie Wade Leslie

Discover the creative possibilities of encaustic art in a guided workshop that blends collage, drawing, and mark-making, then seals the work with a luminous wax finish. Begin by building a mixed media foundation using collage materials, pens, high-contrast photocopies, and other elements to prepare a rich surface for an encaustic overlay. Create a small sampler on Encaustibord to get comfortable with the medium, which combines beeswax and tree resin and traces its history to ancient Egypt and Greece, prized for its durability comparable to oil paint or tempera. On the sampler, experiment with techniques that include drawing with permanent marker, charcoal, dry or oil pastel, and pencil or ink. Layer in tissue for collage, add a line of text or a photo while avoiding glossy magazine paper, then try stamping into the wax and pressing oil color into incised lines. All supplies are provided.
