Food Pantry

Chapel Hill provides a free food pantry for neighbors facing hardship. Service is available to the first 75 families in line. When doors open, registration begins and a valid Texas photo ID is required. Guests receive a number, complete initial paperwork with an intake coordinator, then finish registration with a volunteer. If approved, they will be asked to drive to the front, open the trunk, and volunteers will load a cart of groceries. Each family may visit once every thirty days. The pantry is closed during the week of New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and demand is high so lines can form early.

The session covers a quick safety review, the main parts of a sewing machine and what they do, and foundational skills such as using pins, needles, thread, and cutting tools, plus the importance of pressing and ironing. Practice threading the machine, winding and loading a bobbin, and changing stitch length, width, and style, with guidance on when each setting is useful. Build confidence with straight stitches and accurate seam allowances, and pick up simple hacks that make sewing easier. The class price includes fabric for your creation, with thread and studio tools available for use.

This volunteer effort focuses on preparing meals and care items for distribution, with tasks such as making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, plating food, offering haircuts, and assembling snack bags. Participants of any age are welcome, and younger helpers often enjoy the sandwich station. A brief orientation takes place upon arrival. Comfortable clothing is recommended. If you need community service credit, bring any required forms so staff can sign off on your hours. Race The River - Mission Reach 2026

The San Antonio River Authority and the San Antonio River Foundation present the first installment of the 2026 Race the River competitive paddling series on the Mission Reach Paddling Trail. Participants tackle 5 to 7 miles of scenic, technically demanding river while competing alongside paddlers from across Texas. All finishers receive a commemorative patch, and the celebration continues with an after party at Espada Park and an awards presentation for top performers. The amateur course covers 5 miles and concludes at Espada Park with a safety checkpoint at Padre Park. The pro course spans 7 miles and finishes at the Camino Coahuilteca River Crossing with a cutoff at the Espada Park portage. Racer check-in takes place at the San Antonio River Flood Control Tunnel Outlet. Lunch is provided for participants, and prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in each category.

Chapel Hill hosts a free food pantry serving people in need on Tuesdays, with service available to the first 75 families. Guests may line up at the side entrance on Evandale. Registration requires a valid Texas photo ID. Upon entering, a number is provided to begin the process, an intake coordinator starts the paperwork, and a registration volunteer completes it. After registration, qualified participants are directed to drive to the front of the church, open their trunk, and volunteers load a cart of food. Each household may visit once every thirty days. 5 Mile Hike

Head to Phil Hardberger Park at the Blanco Road Entrance Dog Park for a monthly, moderate five mile hike that traces the park’s perimeter trails and highlights a range of natural and cultural features. The route includes the Skywalk and the Robert L. B. Tobin Land Bridge, with stops by the Savanna Restoration area, the Wetland corner, the Nature Play Area, the Native Plant Wildscape Demonstration Garden, the Golden Age art installation, Salado Creek Overlook, the Borrow Pit, and Phil’s Tree. Expect a mix of paved and natural surfaces, and plan for a brief midway pause at the Urban Ecology Center building for water refills and restrooms before returning to the starting point. This program is designed for adults and teens who are comfortable traveling more than five miles at a moderate pace. Wear closed toe, comfortable shoes, dress for the weather, and bring water. While not required, registration is encouraged. Activities take place weather permitting, and the route or distance may change based on trail conditions. The group departs promptly at the scheduled start.

Tommy Davidson brings his quick wit and many talents to the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club San Antonio for a night of stand-up that draws on a remarkable career. His spot-on impressions of icons such as Sammy Davis Jr. and Michael Jackson, three Showtime specials including On Strength of New York, Illin’ in Philly, and Takin’ it to DC, and a leading voice role in Disney’s The Proud Family highlight his range. Davidson has also hosted on FOX’s The NFL Show with Michael Irvin and Tony Siragusa, appeared in the documentary I Am Comic alongside a roster of well-known comedians, and starred in Black Dynamite with Michael Jai White, which later became an Adult Swim animated series. Known for combining sharp stand-up, character work, and musical flair, he tours internationally and leaves audiences laughing long after the show ends.

Shark Week Showdown 5K, 10K - San Antonio, TX

Shark Week Showdown offers an ocean-themed running experience from Bigfoot Running Company, created for families and runners of all levels. Options include a Kids Dash for ages 10 and under that focuses on fun and is not timed, a relaxed 1 mile that is not chip timed, the 5K known as The Fin Frenzy with chip timing and awards for overall, masters ages 40 and older, and age groups, and the 10K called The Deep End Challenge with chip timing, awards, and full finish-line festivities. Every 1 mile, 5K, and 10K participant earns a finisher medal, and Kids Dash runners receive a special medal.
