The Guitar Sanctuary and Tupps Brewery present a special evening with Eddie Trunk at The Sanctuary Music & Events Center. A fixture in rock media for more than four decades, he is recognized for his work within the hard rock and heavy metal world. This overnight ruck celebrates the nation’s founding, honoring July 4, 1776, when the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, drafted primarily by Thomas Jefferson and rooted in natural rights such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The target distance is 17.76 miles to reflect that historic moment, with options to match different experience levels. Advanced participants can cover the full distance in a single effort, intermediate participants can complete it over the course of a week, and beginners can spread it out during the month. Patriotic attire is encouraged, and carrying the American flag at the front of the group adds to the spirit of the event. Suggested ruck weight is 20 pounds for men and 10 pounds for women. Admission is free, but advance registration is required for every participant, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This free community fishing day invites participants to help feed eagles in rehabilitation by catching fish to stock freezers. The pond will be open for a special fishing opportunity. The event offers time outdoors while supporting the recovery of injured eagles. No live raptors will be present at this event.

First Saturday - August's: Keepers of the Prairie

This First Saturday at Blackland Prairie Raptor Center features hands-on, family friendly activities, games, and trail exploration, highlighted by a live raptor presentation that brings ambassador birds up close while sharing how they support a healthy ecosystem. This edition centers on the theme Keepers of the Prairie, with chances to earn a Prairie Protector Passport, visit stations focused on keeping wildlife safe, enjoy face painting and photo opportunities, discover facts about prairie animals at education stations, take a prairie walk, build enrichment items, and create seed packets or seed bombs. Agents of Discovery and other surprises add to the experience. An additional guided bird walk led by the Prairies & Timbers Audubon Society opens the day and includes a peaceful stop at the bird blind and water feature to observe native birds in their habitat, followed by the main First Saturday activities. Photography is welcome, and a Quiet Area with sensory friendly activities is available in partnership with Sensory Days Dallas. All ticket sales support the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, a small, self sustaining nonprofit dedicated to caring for raptors, protecting the Blackland Prairie, and offering educational programs for families, with additional donations appreciated. As an outdoor program, plans may change in cases of heavy rain or lightning. If postponed, tickets can be used for the new date or for a future First Saturday, and if neither option works the ticket may be treated as a donation to BPRC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
