WTS Chamber Chorale

West Texas Symphony presents a choral program by the West Texas Symphony Chamber Chorale that explores the roots of American music through folk hymns, early sacred songs, and spirituals shaped by community tradition. Led by Chorale Director Dr. Brad Light with pianist Dr. Erica Rumbley, the concert traces a path from early New England psalmody to folk-inflected melodies, highlighting clarity, sincerity, and collective song. Repertoire includes William Billings’s David’s Lamentation, the shape-note tune Idumea by Ananias Davisson arranged by Richard Bjella with tenor Jared Reif, and Sing to the Lord by Samuel McFarland arranged by Alice Parker. Arrangements by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw bring fresh vitality to traditional hymnody such as My God Is a Rock in a Weary Land with alto Julie Wood, and Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal by Frederic Rowland Marvin arranged by Alice Parker. Florence B. Price’s Three Spirituals edited by John Michael Cooper and Moses Hogan’s Ride On, King Jesus spotlight the enduring spiritual tradition, with alto soloists Cindy Benbow and Veronica Miller. The program also features music associated with Wyndham Daniel Read arranged by Brad Holmes and culminates in Aaron Copland’s folk-inspired settings, including Old American Songs and The Promise of Living from The Tender Land, which gather themes of community, work, and hope. Tickets are $25 general admission and $12 for students. Proudly sponsored by Kati Lewis. Presented in the Rea-Greathouse Recital Hall at WNPAC.
