Dear Evan Hansen comes to Midland Community Theatre under the direction of Emma Evenson and opens in the Davis Theatre I. This acclaimed musical follows Evan, a teen who often feels unseen, until a heartbreaking incident rocks the community and places him at the center of a fast-moving storm. As events unfold, he is faced with choices that blur truth and identity in a search for connection and meaning. The production has earned six Tony Awards including Best Musical, along with the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and an Olivier Award for Best Musical. It features a book by Steven Levenson and a score by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, whose work has been recognized with Tony, Grammy and Academy Awards. Miss Viva Fiesta West Texas 2026

At Ector County Coliseum, this youth pageant highlights emerging talent from the Permian Basin as contestants take the stage in multiple phases. Participants appear in Formal Wear, give an onstage introduction, respond to an interview question based on their submitted bio, and present an outfit that reflects their cultural heritage. Age divisions are 4 to 6, 7 to 9, 10 to 12, 13 to 15, and 16 to 18, with a minimum of five entrants required for each division to be established. First place in every age group receives a crown, sash, and trophy, trophies are awarded to first through third place, and additional recognitions include Miss Photogenic and Best Dressed. Living Way Foursquare Church

LWFC 2026 Annual Cook Off

Living Way Foursquare Church hosts a community barbecue cook off and fundraiser with activities running throughout the day. Families can expect kids jumpers and art projects, a cornhole tournament, a lunch available for $5, and both silent and live auctions. The cook off features five categories that include brisket, pork ribs, half jointed chicken, a chocolate dessert, and a non chocolate dessert. Proceeds support missions in Midland and overseas. Participants may set up and begin cooking after the pre cook meeting, and a representative will be on site overnight. Pits should be in place and vehicles moved before the public arrives. Each category has a designated turn in time for judging. Cooking on site is preferred, and only meat entries prepared on site are eligible for Grand Champion consideration. To qualify for Grand Champion, entrants must compete in all three meat categories and cook each meat on site, with results determined by a point system. First Place awards will be presented in each category, and a Grand Champion award will also be given. Registration submitted after the stated cutoff, including day of, is $25 per entry, $60 for three entries, or $80 for five entries. Alcohol consumption is not permitted at the event, although alcohol may be used in recipes. For questions or special needs, call 432-683-1750.

A free demonstration showcases the craft of traditional bow and arrow making with bowyer Joe Hernandez. He studied under renowned bow maker Ed Martin in 2009 and 2010 and has since built bows from Osage orange, also called bois d'arc, as well as hickory, oak, yew, ash, and even deer horn. His bows and arrows were recently on display at the Sibley Nature Center. The session highlights portions of his process for creating traditional equipment at Palette Club. 2026 PBPA Clay Shoot + Pit King Challenge

This annual gathering at Jake's Clays brings participants together for a clay shoot to start the day, followed by a lunch cook-off. It offers a welcoming setting to connect with industry leaders or to treat your team to camaraderie and friendly competition. Those who prefer to cook can enter the Oil Patch Pit King Challenge, serving their best pit dishes for a chance at the Pit King title, with registered shooters acting as judges. The day moves from check-in to a shotgun start, then tasting and judging, with awards presented and the Oil Patch Pit Kings announced at the end. Winners must be present to receive awards.

Ector County Coliseum hosts a high-energy celebration that blends a massive custom show with live concert vibes. More than 500 standout builds fill the venue, including lowriders, Trokas, Viclas, lifted trucks, and more. On stage, Grupo Siggno, Baby Bash, and Lil Rob perform live. Competitors go after a prize pool exceeding $10,000 in cash and awards, promoted as the biggest payouts in West Texas.

Summer Art Camp: GLOW & NEON ⭐️⚡️

Celebrate all things bright at a glow and neon themed art camp where kids spend the week painting, crafting, making slime, trying simple science activities, and playing games. Each day brings fresh projects focused on fun, and the mess stays with us so families do not have to handle cleanup at home. Camps run Monday through Friday with projects that build across the week. Choose a 4-day or 5-day option to complete registration. Drop-in spots are limited and not guaranteed, and may be offered online if space becomes available. Designed for ages 4 to 14. Children under 4 need manager approval before registering, and participants must be able to use the restroom without assistance. This is a drop-off program for kids only. Campers may bring a lunch or purchase one for $5 per day at check-in, with the menu to be announced.

Taking place at the Petroleum Museum, Summer Science Camp: Design Squad invites ages 10 to 15 to blend an engineering mindset with creative design. Participants dive into build-it-yourself challenges that spark imagination and practical problem solving. Following a clear design cycle, they brainstorm concepts, construct and test models, learn from results, and refine their ideas together. Activities include creating strong builds and dreaming up inventive fixes, emphasizing that setbacks are part of learning and that persistence drives new solutions.
