Judson Lions Club Meeting

Set aside time for tabletop fun with a mix of board and card games, plus role-playing. This casual gathering focuses on playing games together.

Pop In & DIY!

This flexible, do-it-yourself art session lets participants walk in, choose a project, and create at a comfortable pace with all supplies and clear printed directions provided. Most paintings take about one and a half to two hours. The class is self-guided, and an artist is available to answer questions. Please plan to arrive before the posted cutoff since late arrivals are not admitted. Project options include canvas painting, non-fired pottery and wood pieces, candle making, 3D wooden crafts, and chunky knit blankets. Pricing is $25 for kids artwork selected from the children’s pop-in painting gallery, $35 for adult canvases in 16x20, 10x30, or 18x18 shiplap pallet formats, $45 for wood boards, $55 for porch leaners, and $20 to $45 for 3D wooden projects such as bird houses, figurines, serving trays, and cutting boards. Chunky knit blankets are $65 and include four skeins of yarn plus printed, video, and hands-on guidance. Age recommendations vary by activity. Canvas painting is suggested for ages 7 and up when working independently, with parent help advised for ages 5 to 7 since step-by-step tutoring for young children is not provided. Non-fired pottery and wood projects work well for ages 3 and up, and a painted-on glaze is included for a finished look, though pottery pieces are not food safe. Candle making is suitable for ages 5 and up, typically takes about 30 minutes to assemble, and needs an additional one and a half to two hours to cool before it can go home, with adult assistance recommended for younger children due to hot wax. Probable Cause

Music in the Gardens closes its season with a performance by Probable Cause, supported by sponsor Dan Sorey. Queen of Hearts Raffle: Paws, Claws & Playing Cards

Longview PAWS hosts a Queen of Hearts raffle at McCann Street Grill to raise funds for its community outreach, including the PAWS & Effect Project that supports animals in Gregg County. This progressive game builds a jackpot that pays 60 percent to the winner while 40 percent supports Longview PAWS. Tickets cost $1 and must be purchased with cash. Each drawing selects one ticket, and the person named on it chooses from 54 sealed, numbered envelopes that hold a full deck plus two jokers. Revealing the Queen of Hearts wins the jackpot. If a face card or a joker appears, a $25 McCann Street Grill gift card is awarded. If the Queen is not found, that card is removed from play, the pot grows, and new tickets are sold for the next drawing. Tickets do not carry over, and participants must be present to win. Prizes are issued as prepaid gift cards that may include Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. The maximum prize for a single winner is $75,000, and any amount above that is donated to Longview PAWS. A W-2G tax form is required for winnings of $2,000 or more, and federal withholding may apply to noncash prizes valued over $5,000. Each month, Kokomo Theatre presents something new and playful. For the full moon, the theater hosts a themed party and musical revue that honors women in music and film. Kelli Grant, known as the Queen of Swing, leads the celebration with tributes to a range of celebrated queens, touching on rock and Motown, a revered queen mother figure, an infamous alien queen, and more. The program also includes a special salute to Patsy Cline.

Chunky Knit Blanket Workshop

Create a soft, chunky knit blanket in a guided, hands-on workshop designed for every experience level. Instructors provide step-by-step support while you choose from yarn colors such as Black, Burgundy, Charcoal, Cold Sea, Ivory, Green, Oatmeal, Light Pink, Purple, Marigold, Taupe, and Teal. The ticket includes four skeins of yarn and instruction from artists. Additional skeins can be added at checkout or in the studio for $12 each. Finished blankets range from a lap throw to twin size. The setting offers a chance to connect with friends and fellow knitters and to craft a piece to keep or give as a gift. Ice Out ALS 2nd Annual 5K & Walk

Now in its second year, this 5K run and community walk brings the community together to raise awareness and support for ALS. The event sets off from Flugers Outdoors in Longview and welcomes competitive runners, casual walkers, families, and anyone who wants to stand behind a meaningful cause. Taking part in either the run or the walk helps shine a light on those affected by ALS. Ben Reynolds will be recognized as the guest of honor. After the finish, the tradition continues with an Ice Bucket Challenge. Participants can pour a bucket of ice water over themselves, invite a friend, family member, or coworker to do the same, and share the moment on social media to help expand ALS awareness.

Featured breeds include American Bully, Brazilian Bull, English Bulldog, French Bulldog, Olde English Bulldogge, and Shorty Bull. As part of GLUW's Week of Action, this orientation offers a two hour, evidence based, interactive training for prospective Aspire mentors. The session starts with everyone together, then transitions into separate English and Spanish groups for language specific instruction. Lunch is provided by the Mosaic Eastman Resource Group. There is no obligation to mentor after attending, and the goal is for many attendees to continue the process to get cleared to volunteer as mentors. Grounded Grooves - Open Drum Circle

An open drum circle created by and for the community brings people together at Ollie’s Skate Shop to share rhythm and movement. Participants of all experience levels can bring a drum, shaker, or other percussion, and a limited number of loaner instruments may be available. Flow dancers and poi practitioners are welcome. Admission is free, with donations appreciated. Seating can be limited, so a lawn chair is recommended. From simple claps, tambourines, and maracas to more complex instruments like a pan drum, every beat fits in. Organizers note that percussion can engage both sides of the brain and help calm the nervous system.
