Bell's Gaming CenterEvery Brilliant Thing
At the Doug Smith Performance Center, a one-actor performance tells a story about discovering light in difficult moments. A man revisits his life through a growing list of joys, capturing the small and the grand reasons that can keep someone going. The narrative begins when he is six, his mother is in the hospital, and his father says she has done something foolish. He starts writing down everything that feels worth living for and leaves the note on her pillow. She reads it and marks the spelling, the list keeps growing, and it soon takes on a life of its own. Examples span a scoop of ice cream, martial arts movies, the thrill of watching flames dance, laughing so hard milk sprays out your nose, towering cranes, and even adding himself. The play looks at depression and the lengths people will go for those they love. This solo show has been performed in more than 80 countries on stages large and small, including a Broadway production featuring Daniel Radcliffe. The production is directed by Morgan Urbanovsky.
