This twice-monthly Arts and Sciences gathering at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Corpus Christi offers a welcoming space to meet local artisans, watch their work up close, and pick up new skills from people who are happy to teach. The first meeting of the month typically includes an Officers and Populace discussion to review plans and upcoming activities. A live Zoom chat will be available for those who cannot attend in person. If the session ends after about 40 minutes, a new one will be opened shortly so the conversation can continue. There is no participation fee through the SCA and Seawinds. The venue requests a monthly facility contribution of 25 dollars for these meetings, and contributions toward that cost are appreciated. The site does not permit alcohol, and attendees are asked to clean up before leaving.

A new season brings a refreshed weekly league, bigger, better, and focused into a single night. Two person teams compete on The Blue Heron at Lozano Golf Center. Each week features a cash skins game for $10 per team, payable in cash, along with closest to the pin challenges, rotating two person formats throughout the season, and weekly food and drink specials. The league has been consolidated into one weekly event to elevate competition and build stronger payouts. Registration is online only and capacity is limited.

Feathered Love - a Date Night Acrylic Painting Class with Marshall Hall
A couples-friendly acrylic painting class led by artist Marshall Hall takes place in the Bay View Gallery at the Art Center of Corpus Christi. Couples can learn together while exploring the greater flamingo as a symbol of love, then head home with artwork ready to display. All supplies are included, and each participant works on a 16x20 canvas. All experience levels are welcome. Hall emphasizes practical tools and concepts that carry into future projects, so the finished piece serves as both a keepsake and a record of new skills. A Californian artist from a family of creatives spanning three generations, he began drawing early and became fascinated by creating depth on a flat surface through line, shading, and contrast. He received oil paints as a child, embraced acrylics soon after, and saw his signature approach take shape in 1980. He refocused on that vision in 2015 and has continued developing his portfolio to share it more widely. Seawinds hosts fighter practice at West Guth Park arranged to accommodate different schedules. Spectators are welcome and participation is free. Adults interested in trying it out can use loaner equipment after signing a waiver, participants must be 18 or older, and assistance is available to get geared up for a gentle introduction. Youth Combat is offered for ages 6 to 17 with foam padded weapons, and loaner gear is available. On a case by case basis, participants ages 16 to 17 may be approved to use the same equipment as adults. All youth participants must be accompanied at all times by a parent or legal guardian who will also sign the waiver. Activities depend on the weather and details may change, with updates posted as soon as possible. Look for a small blue and yellow Seawinds seashell banner to find the practice location. COVID precautions are encouraged. Food and drink are not provided other than bottled waters, and attendees may bring their own and share if they choose at their own risk. The Society for Creative Anachronism follows applicable laws to support the health and safety of participants, yet in person activities still carry a risk of exposure to infectious diseases. This two-day, hands-on workshop centers on throwing mugs on the wheel with a focus on organic shapes, thoughtful alterations, careful trimming, and solid handle construction. Participants will make multiple pieces while exploring how proportion, surface texture, and gentle distortions can transform a basic cylinder into a lively, expressive mug. Instruction covers pulling and attaching your own handles and experimenting with specialty techniques such as sodium silicate texturing, faceting, rim changes, and optional darting. At the end, each person selects two favorite mugs to be glazed and fired. The class welcomes beginners, and having some experience with centering, opening, and lifting a cylinder will be helpful. Anyone who has completed an introductory wheel course will feel especially comfortable. The workshop takes place in the Art Center of Corpus Christi Clay Studio. Guidance is provided by Lorena, whose lifelong connection to ceramics and painting began in childhood. Growing up on a ranch along the Rio Grande, she worked with clay gathered from the land and pigments made from native fruits and plants, nurturing a lasting appreciation for natural materials and organic forms. Her practice later expanded to acrylics and then oils, influences that continue to shape her current work. Please note that classes are not exchangeable, and refunds are issued only if the Art Center cancels.

HardKnocks Sports Grill of Padre Island turns into a stage for stand-up every first Monday of the month. Performers try out new material, get their reps in, and the crowd decides what hits. A participant takes the mic and tells a joke, then the audience chooses whether someone has a better one. If there is, the next challenger steps up. If not, that joke stays on top. Rounds continue until no one can beat it. Anyone can take a shot at the mic, and anyone can be knocked out, making for a quick-paced showcase shaped by the room.

Explore the color and light of local wildflowers in an acrylic painting class led by artist Marshall Hall at the Art Center of Corpus Christi Bay View Gallery. You will work on a 16 by 20 inch canvas, and all materials are included. Hall’s instruction emphasizes practical tools and concepts that carry into future artworks, so the piece you take home serves as a reminder of the skills gained. He grew up immersed in art from an early age, fascinated by building the illusion of depth on a flat surface through line, shading, and contrast. He began painting with oils at seven and embraced acrylics by eleven. His signature style first surfaced in 1980, and since 2015 he has focused on refining that vision and expanding his portfolio to share it more broadly. Seawinds offers regular fighter practices designed to fit different schedules, with two gatherings each week. Sunday sessions are typically at West Guth Park, with the first Sunday shifting to Cole Park, and Wednesday practices take place at East Cliff Park. Look for the blue and yellow seashell banner to find the group. Activities depend on the weather and plans can change, and updates are shared as quickly as possible. Spectators are welcome and there is no cost to take part. Adults interested in trying the activities can use loaner gear, must be 18 or older, and will be asked to sign a waiver before being outfitted. Youth Combat is available for ages 6 to 17 using foam-padded weapons. Participants ages 16 to 17 may, in some cases, be approved to use the same equipment as adults. Loaner gear is available, participation is free, and every youth must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times, who also needs to sign the waiver. COVID precautions are encouraged. The Shire does not provide food or beverages except bottled water. Attendees may bring their own refreshments and share at their own discretion. At the Art Center of Corpus Christi Lockett Gallery, this beginner friendly urban sketching class introduces the foundations of drawing and sketching. Under the guidance of urban sketch artist Sina Sung, newcomers explore geometric forms and perspective, learn to create convincing two and three dimensional effects with waterproof fine point pens and watercolor, and practice thoughtful composition for landscapes and still life. Students work from a photo of an inspiring landscape, building, or city scene to develop personal sketches and begin a sketchbook they can continue to fill on their own. The class is designed to build confidence in capturing everyday moments and travel scenes through quick, expressive drawings. Please bring a 7 by 10 watercolor sketchbook, artist pencils, waterproof fine point pens, a watercolor kit, and a digital or printed photo of a landscape, building, or city scene to use as your subject. Students from across Texas come together for the annual Buc Days Food Challenge, presented by H-E-B Helping Here, a team-based culinary contest at the Hillard Center. Teams receive a predetermined set of ingredients, decide on a recipe, prepare their dish with a focus on nutrition and safety, and deliver a presentation to the judges. Competition rounds culminate with an awards ceremony on the Community Stage. Summer Camp 2026: Creative Explorers
Children ages 5 to 8 can dive into art at the Art Center of Corpus Christi, with activities especially tailored to ages 5 to 6. Each day introduces a different medium, inviting kids to paint, sculpt, build, and bring their ideas to life. Engaging stations around the room encourage hands-on exploration, curiosity, play, and self expression, and campers take home unique pieces they created themselves. All supplies are provided. Limited scholarship opportunities are available for this camp. After registration, families receive a confirmation email that includes the registration form, which completes enrollment and collects the information needed for a safe, enjoyable experience. Instruction is led by Vanessa Spittler, a Corpus Christi native and award winning artist recognized for coastal inspired work spanning surfboard art, pottery, paintings, and handcrafted jewelry. As a full time artist who works across multiple mediums, she shares her passion for teaching and supports young artists in discovering their own creativity.
2026 PRL Single-man #2
A single-day, boat-only redfish tournament takes place at Doc's Seafood and Steaks, featuring a live weigh-in held during the Corpus Christi Crawfish Festival. The field is limited to the first 30 teams. Anglers target three redfish over the course of the day, each measuring 20 to 28 inches in Texas, and only artificial lures are allowed. Entry is $1,000, with an optional $250 Calcutta paying first, second, and third at 50, 30, and 20 percent for those entered, plus a $250 Big Fish pot.
