Youth Panel 2026 - How Education Can Help Young People Achieve Their Dreams + Community Workshop

Hosted by the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation and Teach For America RGV, this second edition of the Youth Panel returns as part of RGV Startup Week 2026 at the eBridge Center for Business & Commercialization. Last year, more than 140 community members listened to students preparing for college and the workforce, gaining clearer insight into what young people need to succeed. This year, a broad mix of current students, recent graduates, and emerging voices from across the Rio Grande Valley will share personal stories, reflect on their paths, and speak candidly about the challenges and opportunities they encounter in education, careers, and life. After the panel, attendees will collaborate in small groups to chart local resources, surface gaps, and outline practical next steps. It is a hands-on working session where participant perspectives and connections shape the outcomes. Insights from the program will be compiled into a community white paper to help institutions drive meaningful change. This event welcomes anyone invested in how education can help young people reach their goals, including K-12 and higher education leaders, workforce development professionals, business owners and civic leaders, nonprofits and community organizations, parents, mentors, and community members who care about where Brownsville is headed. At the Costumes of the Americas Museum, this exhibition spotlights Mexican dance as a lively expression of heritage and meaning. Through an engaging look at traditional, ceremonial, and folkloric forms from many regions, it shows how movement, music, and dress come together to honor milestones, seasonal festivities, courtship, faith, and community gatherings. A curated selection of twelve costumes from across the country reveals the unique attire, steps, and sounds that define each local tradition, while also reflecting how these dances continue through ongoing practice and teaching across generations. Support for the program comes from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, with additional partnership and support from the Consulado de México en Brownsville and Revival of Cultural Arts (ROCA).

BISD Student Exhibit: Art Without Limits: A Celebration of All Abilities

The Brownsville Independent School District’s Fine Arts Department, in partnership with the BHA, presents a student art showcase that honors Autism Awareness Month and celebrates all abilities. Hosted in the Yturria Education Center at the Historic Brownsville Museum, the exhibition features original works by students from a range of grade levels. Admission is included with regular museum entry, and BISD students and teachers with ID receive free access.

The lineup features Cameron Cushman, who helped launch 1 Million Cups in 2012 at the Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City, reflecting on how a simple coffee gathering grew into a national movement. Experience the Treehouse at Camp RIO with an outdoor adventure course built for active fun. Wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothing suited for the outdoors, and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Participants must use the provided safety gear, including helmets and harnesses, and must fit properly in the equipment. Personal climbing shoes and gloves are allowed if preferred. Weight guidelines apply for each element, with the zip line set for 60 to 250 pounds, the climbing wall for 40 to 300 pounds, and the adventure course for 40 to 250 pounds. All tickets are non-refundable.

Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group - Brownsville (Valley Regional Medical Center)

Caregivers and people living with dementia can connect in a welcoming, confidential setting at Valley Regional Medical Center. This Alzheimer’s Association caregiver support group is guided by trained facilitators and centers on building a dependable support network, exchanging practical ideas for everyday challenges, exploring ways to cope, and learning about resources available in the community. Participants have the opportunity to talk openly about feelings, needs, and concerns in a respectful group environment. Each gathering features a focused theme, which may include acknowledging emotions after a diagnosis, navigating changes in relationships, roles and responsibilities, finding support and community resources, strengthening a care team, communicating with children and other family members, and planning for the next steps.

Miss Pride 2026

Miss Pride 2026 brings a spirited competition to Bar-B where the next queen will be crowned. Contestants will be judged in Pride Presentation, Q&A, and Talent. Registration is $50 and handled through Divina. The winner receives $300 in cash along with a crown, sash, plaques, flowers, bookings, and a full jewelry set. Special guests include Luna Karr, Miss Pride 2025, and Djmando Scareno. Expect an energetic celebration filled with pride.

6th Annual Sunny Glen Trivia Night

The 6th Annual Sunny Glen Trivia Night supports the Supervised Independent Living Program, which provides rent-free housing to young adults who have aged out of foster care while they attend school or work, along with continued case management and support services. Teams consist of four players, and every contestant receives a meal plus snacks and beverages. The competition includes six categories and two bonus rounds. Participants who want an extra challenge may submit up to three multiple choice questions to try to stump the field. Those who prefer to watch can register as guests and cheer for their favorite team.

2026 National Civics Bee® - Brownsville Local Competition

The local competition in Brownsville for the National Civics Bee takes place at the Brownsville Events Center, where finalists compete for local recognition and a chance to advance to the Texas State finals. The event is free and open to the community. Participants vie for cash awards, with $500 for first place, $250 for second, and $125 for third, and every finalist receives a certificate. At Pendleton Pool, Bicycle World RGV presents the 10th Annual Tri Girl Sprint Triathlon, created for women ages 16 to 99. The course combines a 300 yard swim, a 10 mile bike ride, and a 2 mile run in a welcoming, carefully organized setting. First-timers and seasoned athletes alike can look forward to smooth transitions between stages and a supportive environment from start to finish.

Celebrate the launch of Starter Deck ST10 and Booster Pack EB01 from the G GENERATION series with a multiplayer Battle Royale that puts several players into the action at once. The format highlights the set’s focus on G GENERATION and multiplayer play, creating a lively table experience. The recommended structure is a single round with four players per table. Most tables seat four, while groups of three may be used when needed, in which case one team color can remain unused. After check-in, organizers assign seats and distribute team cards so each player at a table represents a different team, then matches begin. Recognition is given for both results and positive play. The winner at each table earns a prize. Players also vote for an MVP at their table, celebrating someone who helped others, kept the atmosphere fun, or otherwise made the game better, and that player receives an MVP prize. When all tables finish, organizers count team colors from the table winners to determine the overall winning team, which receives a team prize. If there is a tie, it can be settled with a quick playoff, rock paper scissors, a raffle, or a dice roll. Event hosts are encouraged to run entries using either a Starter Deck with four booster packs or a Starter Deck only. After official matches conclude, organizers and attendees may continue playing if they wish.
