Tyrrell Park Nature & Visitor Center in Beaumont presents a summer series that wonders whether Bigfoot could make a home in Southeast Texas, using hands-on exploration to spotlight the wild places close to home. Designed for children ages 6 to 12, the program offers four stand-alone sessions that each focus on a different habitat, including forest, swamp, marsh, and beach. Participants discover the wildlife that truly lives in these environments while also considering a legendary neighbor. Attendance is free, advance registration is required for every session you plan to attend, and a parent or guardian must remain throughout.

The Beaumont Heritage Society brings this edition of Heritage Happy Hour to Moyle Manor, a carefully restored historic home that once served as a lively hub for teas, bridge games, and neighborhood gatherings. The event features complimentary beer and wine provided by Giglio Distributing, with non-alcoholic options available, and a welcoming atmosphere for conversations with fellow history enthusiasts. Informational displays highlight the property’s origins with George Washington Brown and his wife Effie, its years as the official residence of four bishops of the Diocese of Beaumont, and its later chapter as professional offices. Owners Matthew and Kimberly Moyle completed a thorough restoration that preserves the home’s character and renews its spirit of hospitality, and they will be available to discuss the work and their vision for the business. Proceeds support the Beaumont Heritage Society’s mission to preserve, promote, and celebrate the region’s historic resources. Admission is free for Beaumont Heritage Society members, and the cost is $10 for attendees 21 and older with tickets available at the door. Special Heritage Happy Hour watercolor prints will also be available for purchase.

Explore the high-adrenaline world of historic small craft in a free public lecture at the McFaddin-Ward House Museum. Maritime historian Pieter Roos shares vivid accounts of speed and competition from the 19th and early 20th centuries, featuring cutting-edge sandbagger sailing craft, nimble ice scooters, and early powerboats, along with the courageous athletes who drove them to victory. The program takes place in the Museum’s Visitor Center Lecture Hall. Roos brings more than four decades of museum experience in New York, New Jersey, and New England, with past roles at Historic Hudson Valley, Old Sturbridge Village, Mystic Seaport Museum, and the Newport Historical Society. He has served as executive director at the Newport Restoration Foundation and the Mark Twain House and Museum. He currently teaches museum administration at the Cooperstown Graduate Program in Museum Studies, and he is also a landscape artist focused on seascapes who has carved half models of boats and ships for over thirty years. He holds a master’s degree from the Cooperstown Graduate Program at the State University of New York and a B.A. in anthropology from Drew University. The Kind Kaygan Foundation is hosting a pedal party fundraiser centered on bike riding for all ages. Participants can bring their bikes to ride designated tracks, including an indoor course with a play area for toddlers and kindergarten-aged children, as well as a large outdoor track for riders 8 and older. Along the route there will be stations offering snow cones and lemonade, bike decorations, Kind Kaygan merchandise, and more. The early rider fee is $15 and the regular registration fee is $20. One registration form can cover a family or group of up to seven riders, and additional riders require an extra form. All proceeds and donations benefit the Kind Kaygan Foundation.
