Johnson City Public LibraryThe Angler's Path
A four day fly fishing and spiritual retreat for men presented by Ancient Path Ministries at Tailwaters Lodge. This annual experience is designed to step away from the everyday noise to breathe, reflect, and recover a sense of identity and purpose through teaching, solitude, storytelling, and shared meals. Two full days are spent drifting the South Holston and Watauga Rivers in guided boats pursuing trout and smallmouth, followed by a day of wading and remembering boyhood, with lunch and all boat gear provided. Themes include identity, uncharted places of the heart, boyhood, orientation, solitude, brotherhood, and celebration. Participants stay four nights, with all meals and materials included. A highlight is a candlelit thankful feast, an Ancient Path seder that brings together gratitude, stories, brotherhood, and faith. The cost is $1,300 per person, with a limited number of premium cabin upgrades available for an additional $300. Discounts are offered for fathers and sons and for pastors or missionaries. Personal fishing gear such as waders, boots, and rods is not included, a Tennessee fishing license is required, and guide gratuity is separate with $100 per boat suggested. Guests are welcome to bring their own rod.
