Elayan serves as a Senior Lecturer in English at Kennesaw State University and holds a Ph.D. from Georgia State University focused on Modern American and Comparative literatures. His interests extend to short stories, creative nonfiction, and time on his north Georgia farm tending blackberries and pepper plants. His poems have appeared in Snapdragon: A Journal of Art & Healing, The Black Fork Review, About Place Journal, and The Esthetic Apostle. Recent nonfiction is in Talking Writing, and his short story No Quedo Mas Nada was shortlisted for the Vincent Brothers Review Annual Short Story Contest and received a Pushcart Prize nomination. Much of his work addresses the natural environment, climate change, and trauma, giving voice to places and people too often unheard.
