Build with Pride

Volunteers are invited to Park Circle in North Charleston to team up with Charleston Habitat for Humanity through the Build with Pride initiative and lend a hand on small exterior projects that help Habitat homeowners care for and enjoy their homes. Typical tasks include yard work such as raking leaves, pulling weeds, and trimming bushes, along with painting front porches or doors and pressure washing exterior surfaces. The work happens outdoors and involves light physical activity. No special experience is needed, since Habitat staff provide the tools, materials, and guidance on site. This community effort offers opportunities to meet homeowners and neighbors, strengthen connections, and keep the neighborhood looking its best. Participants are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and clothing that can get dirty, and to bring a positive, community-minded attitude. An online volunteer information and liability waiver is requested before a shift. The specific meeting spot within Park Circle will be shared by email ahead of time. Build with Pride promotes inclusion, unity, and housing justice while celebrating and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to an annual build, the initiative features community engagement activities, participation in local Pride events, and a culminating celebration at the Charleston Pride Parade and Festival. As part of this effort, a series of home refresh projects focuses on exterior repairs, landscaping, painting, and beautification to support local neighbors.

“What Holds Us Together”

The third chapter in the What Holds Us Together story, Tears of a Broken Heart, follows the Wallace family as they confront fresh grief and long-buried pain. After the suicide of Brandon, Twan’s friend, Twan leaves his team and college, returns home, and wrestles with guilt and shaken faith. Papa Bugsby is back on the road with Willie and the Eldorados, guiding from afar, while Ms. Harper remains the spiritual center of the household and prays the foundation stays firm. Erica and Cedric have repaired their marriage. Cedric leaves the Firm and launches a new venture with his friends Rob and Kevin, yet peace at home is still fragile. Clara, longing for love she believes she never had, runs away with Tyrone and is abandoned. Aunt Tina brings her back to face angry parents, broken trust, and a rebellion that only grows. Tina and Rob’s deep bond is tested when his hope for a child forces her to face a long-hidden truth about infertility tied to past trauma. When Marcus Green returns, the wounds Tina covered with poise and smiles are reopened, and their marriage faces a hard reckoning. Constance seeks safety with the Wallaces after uncovering the Bishop’s darkest secrets. As divorce nears, bitterness replaces faith. She leaves the church and turns from God, and the Bishop refuses to let go. With betrayal, depression, shaken belief, and unhealed scars closing in, the question remains whether Bugsby and steadfast Ms. Harper can keep the family together, or if division will finally break what holds them together.
