A stress-free coloring party at Darlington Library swaps quiet art class vibes for a lively, drop-in gathering. Earth Day Native Tree Giveaway

An Earth Day native tree giveaway hosted by the City of Florence and Duke Energy, in partnership with Naturally Outdoors, Keep Florence Beautiful, and the South Carolina Forestry Commission, will take place at The Trailhead greenspace. Trees will be handed out in the order of arrival. Representatives from the South Carolina Forestry Commission will be available to talk about the species being offered, share planting guidance, and answer questions about tree care.

Middle School Final

The regional tournament concludes with the middle school final, the last matchup that decides the champion. This closing contest features the remaining competitors vying for the regional title.

Riftbound Nexus Night

Riftbound Nexus Night brings the TCG community together at Heroes Hideout for a weekly meetup that blends a relaxed vibe with competitive matches and time to socialize before and after games. Entry is $10. Prize support scales with attendance, awarding one pack for each win when there are fewer than nine players, and shifting to record-based payouts when there are nine or more. If packs are not available, the entry fee is reduced to $5 and promo packs are used so everyone still gets support. Players can chase wins or simply enjoy casual games with friends, creating a consistent place to play each week.

4th Denim and Dance: Use Your Voice

Denim and Dance, themed Use Your Voice, invites the Florence community to honor Denim Day through movement and conversation at the Florence County Public Library. The program features a live performance by Aroha Afro Latin Dance along with participatory dance activities. Attendees can explore information tables and take part in facilitated roundtable discussions led by professionals focused on sexual assault prevention and support for survivors. Women, men, parents, tweens, and teens are welcome. Light refreshments will be available. Presented in collaboration with Pee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault. The Florence Food Truck Festival brings two days of flavor and family-friendly fun to the Florence Center. Live performances are planned, with the entertainment lineup to be announced. The festival is pet-friendly. Cinco de Mayo Fiesta

Yu-Gi-Oh! Weekly Event

Florence duelists are invited to Heroes Hideout for a weekly Yu-Gi-Oh event that welcomes both competitive players and those looking to get more practice. Bring a tuned deck, refine your strategies, and connect with the local community. Entry is $5. Each participant receives 2 OTS packs with entry, and for every 8 players a booster box is added to the prize pool. Prizing scales with attendance. With 16 or fewer players, payouts go to the top 4. First place receives 40 percent, second receives 30 percent, and third and fourth receive 15 percent each. With 17 or more players, payouts go to the top 8. First receives 30 percent, second receives 20 percent, third and fourth receive 15 percent each, and fifth through eighth receive 5 percent each.

Rummage Sale

A youth group is organizing a rummage sale and is accepting donations for the event. They are collecting a wide range of items, from books and furniture to tools, toys, and electronics, along with housewares, jewelry, purses, bookbags, outdoor gear, games and movies, and records.

Lindy Hop/Swing Dance

The program features brief Lindy Hop instruction followed by plenty of social dancing. Dancers of all experience levels are welcome. A suggested $5 donation per participant helps cover the use of the building, and contributions can be made by cash, check, PayPal, or Venmo. The dances take place in the Beth Israel Congregation Social Hall and are not officially affiliated with the congregation.

Capes for Kids 5K, 10K & Fun Run

Celebrate community and advocacy with a family friendly 5K, 10K, and Kids Fun Run at Briggs Elementary School. Created in memory of a 3-year-old Carver Elementary School student who died in 2011 due to physical abuse and neglect, this event continues the legacy of the former Carver C.A.P. Run. The focus is to honor her life and those of other children while raising awareness and support for victims of child abuse in the local area. Proceeds benefit CARE House of the Pee Dee, helping provide services for children who have experienced abuse and their families. Festivities include children’s activities such as face painting and inflatables, along with a superhero costume contest. Check in and in person registration are available, and superhero attire is welcome for runners and walkers alike.

Sports Physical

Gold Star Cares Foundation is marking its launch with a free Sports Physical Day for K-12 students. The event’s purpose is to remove barriers so every child can take part in sports safely by offering no-cost physicals. Community members who wish to help can do so through donations or by volunteering.

Perfect Game Tournament

This youth tournament features participants ages 8 through 16 competing against peers in their age range.

A grand opening celebration features concessions from Elite’s Concession and a special appearance by pups from Glass Slipper Solutions. The Gospel Brunch, presented by The Epicenter & Friends, features live music alongside brunch fare. Salsa Fundamentals_May 3 & 17, 2026

Explore Salsa fundamentals in a welcoming setting at Gould Business Incubator. These classes offer a friendly way to meet new people, enjoy dancing together, and build lasting connections within a supportive community. No partner or prior dance experience is required. This three-hour class is priced at $65 for singles and $95 for couples, and a minimum of six students is required. The Fundamentals I curriculum spans two classes. The first focuses on Salsa basics along with right and left turns, and the second adds the crossbody lead while bringing all of the skills together. At the end of class, there is an option to continue into Salsa FUNdamentals II, which centers on turns, includes review with the crossbody lead, and concludes by putting everything together. Adalia Ellis-Aroha, founder of Aroha Afro Latin Dance, is from South Carolina and has been dancing since childhood. With nearly 20 years of experience in the United States and abroad, she is a certified Latin dance instructor under Son, Na-Ri of SalsaIn Academy in Seoul, and partnered with MIZY, a UNESCO foundation, to lead the HipHopucation program that traced the roots of modern hip-hop and culminated in a public performance. She has taught at Francis Marion University, creating courses on the history of Afro Latin dance and music and on hip-hop that ended with public performances. Her background includes a BA in History with a theatre minor, a Master of Arts in Teaching, Black Belt Salsa certification with Edie “The Salsa Freak” and Black Belt System franchise ownership, certification in beginner instruction for Dominican Bachata with Alex and Desiree, Bachata training with Jose Parades of JP Dance, and Kizomba studies with Kimberly Nicole, Lucia Nogueira, and the Kizomba Training Academy with Tonino Cidade.

8th Annual Little Black Dress Initiative

Presented by the Junior League of Florence in partnership with Homewood Suites by Hilton, this kickoff at Homewood Suites by Hilton Florence launches the 8th annual Little Black Dress Initiative, a community-focused effort highlighting how poverty affects access to essential resources, self-confidence, and career opportunities. During the initiative, Advocates wear the same black outfit for five consecutive days to spark dialogue and raise awareness. Look for buttons that invite questions about the dress, encouraging conversations that build understanding and inspire change. The effort supports a Diaper Drive that helps families in need, offering a tangible way to give back.

Businesses from the area and vendors will offer service specials and calming self-care experiences, along with a brief photo session by Aleigha Photography. Treat yourself or share the occasion with someone meaningful for a warm way to honor Mother’s Day.

Under the Palms

A festive evening at Florence Country Club supports The Palmetto Partnership and its services for individuals with disabilities and their families. Proceeds help fund free local offerings that include monthly support groups, trainings, advocacy, and events that connect agencies and share resources. The program begins with a cocktail reception featuring a signature drink and an open bar, set to music from David Whatley of Black Tie DJ Services. Guests can enjoy a generous array of hors d’oeuvres along with a pasta station. During the dinner program, cocktails and dessert are served while a live auction and a video presentation unfold, with the featured video spotlighting the Padgett Family and their story of hope and faith. Resort attire is recommended.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Weekly Event

Duelists in Florence can put their strategies to the test at Heroes Hideout during a weekly Yu-Gi-Oh! event that welcomes both competitive players and those looking for extra practice. Entry is $5. Every participant receives two OTS packs with entry, and a booster box is added to the prize pool for every eight players. If there are 16 players or fewer, prizes go to the top four with a 40 percent, 30 percent, 15 percent, 15 percent split. With 17 or more players, prizes extend to the top eight, awarding 30 percent for first, 20 percent for second, 15 percent for third and fourth, and 5 percent for places five through eight. It offers a friendly setting to sharpen plays and connect with the local Yu-Gi-Oh! community at Heroes Hideout.

SCR-SCCA 2026 AutoX #1

The opening South Carolina Region SCCA autocross of 2026 returns to Darlington Raceway for a day of weaving through cones. Online registration is required, and the field is capped at 100 drivers. Helmets must be Snell 2010 or newer. Loaner helmets are available from SCR on a first come, first served basis and only while actively in use, with cleaning expected before and after each use. The schedule includes registration, tech inspection, course walks with a dedicated session for novices, a drivers meeting before runs begin, and trophies presented after all runs are complete.

Leadership Florence Kickball for a Cause 2026

Presented by Leadership Florence, this family friendly day at Carolina Bank Field blends playful competition with community impact. Now in its fourth year, the celebration centers on a spirited kickball tournament and also offers activities for children along with food and beverages. Funds raised support local nonprofits that serve people in need, including CARE House of the Pee Dee, House of Hope, and Lighthouse Ministries.

Mother’s Day tea party

Celebrate with an annual Mother’s Day tea party featuring a talk from guest speaker Heather Atkinson. Brunch will be served, and festive hats add to the charm.

Nature Study Day

Join Josh Arrants, a nationally renowned naturalist, for a day of nature study at Kalmia Gardens. The day includes a presentation, a group lunch, and a tour of the grounds. Participants will explore local ecology and cultural history, and are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress appropriately for an outdoor hike, which will include some uneven terrain. Tickets are required and include lunch with a choice of a BBQ sandwich, grilled chicken on a croissant, or a chef salad.

Mother Daughter Tea

A special tea for mothers, daughters, grandmothers, and the women who make a meaningful impact, presented by Compassion Kids at Compassion Church Florence. Our Future Blueprint

This one-day event is for high school students to explore career options and connect with colleges and professionals. For those with demanding schedules, a to-go plate is available so lunch can be enjoyed even without staying. DIY Workshop for Teens - Cotton Candy Making

Field Fastener presents its fourth annual Golf Playday at The Country Club of South Carolina to benefit United Way of Florence County. This community minded outing blends friendly competition with a shared goal of making a positive impact. Team preregistration is required. The day includes check in, lunch, and a shotgun start. A four person team is $400, and an optional mulligan package is $100. The mulligan package provides each golfer with two extra shots, eight in total for the team, plus one red tee that allows a hole to be played from a closer teeing area. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Cultivating Knowledge: A Lecture Series, Managing Stormwater Runoff in the Home Landscape

Kalmia Gardens presents its adult education series, Cultivating Knowledge: A Lecture Series. Geraldine Cuypers, Water Resources Agent for Florence County Cooperative Extension, will present her lecture at the Joslin Education Center. Pre-registration and a $5 ticket purchase are required. Geraldine will discuss how to manage stormwater runoff at your home and how you can reduce the impact you have on stormwater runoff. Lecture attendees will learn best management practices to address erosion, poor drainage, and flooding with the use of rainwater harvesting, rain gardens, and the use of native plants.

Sankofa Day: Bomba with Luz

Explore the pulse and heritage of Bomba, an Afro-Indigenous dance tradition from Puerto Rico, in a workshop led by master teacher Luz Alvarado. Learn core movement principles and cultural context while experiencing the vibrant conversation between dancer and drummer. Instruction includes posture, footwork, use of skirts when relevant, musical cues, and improvisation, with an emphasis on the body as a storyteller that carries memory, resistance, and joy. No previous dance background is needed and all bodies and experience levels are welcome. Expect to move, listen, and build connection with the drum, the community, and yourself.

Lindy Hop/Swing Dance

Begin with a couple of Lindy Hop lessons, then enjoy plenty of social swing dancing. All experience levels are welcome, from first-timers to seasoned dancers. A suggested donation of $5 per participant helps cover building use and can be made by cash, checks, PayPal, or Venmo. The dance takes place in the Beth Israel Congregation Social Hall and is not officially affiliated with the congregation.

2026 Carolina Jet Fest

Come to Scranton and join others for flying jets. Powered parking spots are available for purchase, and parking without power is free. There is a pilot fee. Pilot registration is limited, and pilots must purchase a parking spot or share one with another pilot. Be prepared to bring a generator as a backup. Vertical Gen Turi-style exhaust stacks are required for campers parked on flight lines running internal combustion generators, to ensure public health and safety.

Darlington POP Powerful Youth Leadership Camp

Designed for ages 10 to 18, this Power of Progeny (POP) youth leadership arts camp helps emerging leaders find and use their voices in meaningful ways. Through hands-on workshops and mentorship, participants explore creative writing, the arts, spoken word, and performance while building leadership and public speaking skills. Activities encourage thoughtful engagement with real-world community issues in age-appropriate formats, strengthening confidence, empathy, and teamwork. Enrollment is limited to 20 to support small group mentorship and a welcoming space where young people can connect, grow, and amplify their voices.

Beginner Riding Class

Geared to riders with prior experience who want to earn a license, this intermediate class is offered in a two-day format. The cost is $349.

Freedom Fest
